Although they had been fitted to him, one was not adjusted quite right and it was creating an open sore each time he took it in or out, also making it painful to wear. We tried to take him to the VA here, but they could not do it for several days. I googled Hearing Centers near me, and was so lucky and blessed to find Ellen Ruth Stevens in Broomfield. We called and the sweet receptionist said she would fit us in and to come by right then. Ellen saw my father and worked for probably 30 minutes to make the hearing aid fit. When we tried to pay, they said they were just glad they could help! It meant the world to me to have someone help my dad and relieve the constant pain he was in. Jill carefully explained all my options. we decided that my best option was to send my hearing aids to Starkey for repair. We agreed that $720 to have them repaired was a better option than purchasing new $7000 hearing aids. 11 days later my repaired hearing aids were back. Madie told me that rather than repairing my old hearing aids, Starkey replaced them with brand new hearing aids with a new 1-year warranty. Given some paperwork to complete, then Dr. Nemanov introduced herself, I felt a genuine concern from her while describing my hearing issue. She introduced me to a hearing aid that transmits sound from my bad ear to an amplified hearing aid to my good ear. I have to say "WOW" to hear sounds from my left side without me having to turn my head to hear was fantastic. When I showed up for my hearing assessment, we realized my insurance would no longer cover her as a hearing-aid provider -- only the test was covered. She recommended I actually cancel the appointment, even though I was already there, so that I could get my hearing assessed by the same provider who would eventually supply the aid. I ended up staying for the assessment. But I was impressed she would recommend me going elsewhere even at a cost to herself. Dr. Meg knows a lot both about assistive technology and the ins and outs of insurance. She shared several helpful resources with me after our visit. Definitely recommend.

Thankfully I found a doctor that was able to work with me to get the VA disability increase I felt I deserved but I would take any advice from Dr. Yan with a grain of salt and preferably a second opinion. I followed his advice on getting the surgery which didn't work and if I would have continued to follow his advice after the surgery I would be stuck with the same disability rating that I had obtained on my own. Get a second opinion at the very least before committing to anything with this outfit! As far as office experience, be prepared to call at least 5 times for medical records...
