Before we were going to leave, we looked for the restroom. When we found it, the entire hallway leading to it was dark and had been blocked off with room dividers and a sign saying out of order. We made a joke about it because it had the look of a closed off area, not just temporarily out of order. We were exiting the store, walking past the checkout area when an associate, a middle aged woman who had the look of being some kind of shift supervisor, basically wanted to start a confrontation with us. As we were walking past, well within proximity for us to hear her, she made a comment to a young associate that seemed to be about us joking about the restroom out of order sign. We turned to clarify what she had said and she repeated that we made some joke about the restrooms being closed. We did not engage with her and left. I went back to the vestibule area to look in to see her name tag, but I couldn't see one. Then we left. I had planned to write to Ollie's corporate but found on their website a rigid format to leave positive remarks but no interest expressed in hearing other feedback. As I tried to find a way to communicate with them, I learned that they have some very unpleasant actions against them, touching on discrimination and other unpleasantness. At that point it seemed that this kind of employee may be just the expression of their management, and I decided not to try to correspond with them. Then I came to Yelp and saw the recent review and comment about the restrooms having been closed since June of 2025. I suspected when this happened that she was particularly sensitive about the restrooms being closed. It appears that Ollie's has developed a very negative culture. I would avoid them in the future.

Anyway, this is a really clean, inexpensive store. It's rather small for what it looks like, yet an average size for a discount store. They have amazing prices on basically everything, and some interesting products I haven't seen anywhere else in my travels. The employees were all very friendly and kind. Only wish would be to clean up the storefront (as it makes the store look dirty and unappealing) and add some music to the store (you could hear a pin drop in there!). People in general should highly consider this approach, moving forward. Reason said: The store and or, place of business should be rated on appearance, safety, customer service, reasonable access, pricing and customer needs. If there are comments of need of improving, etc., let's see how we can resolve in a positive good way, considering we all go through something. But, let's be sensitive when we are communicating with customers and also, customers should consider same reflection back. If not, let's work on seeking help to resolve matter, not just complain about it. All that to say...I was immediately approached by a worker who responded to me in a negatively way, before listening to total reason why I was back in the store. But, I responded back in a positive way. Clearly something is going on with the employee that responded negatively. The isleways are not only too narrow but there are boxes of merchandise blocking them as well. It was even hard to get out the door from the only register that was open. I couldn't get around the bend without hitting the glass. It's embarrassing and discriminatory. I don't think I will ever go back. I only posted a few photos but these are just SOME of the things I wanted to look at but I couldn't because I couldn't maneuver the electric cart that YOU provided around the racks or even into the isleways. Pretty sure that's a fire Hazard as well. Let me also add that the boxes were full of merchandise and left unattended throughout the store. The person behind the counter is very cheerful and makes small talk with the customers. A lot of these dollar stores have an "All Sales Final." Rule. Dollar Depot pretty much carries a decent amount of typical dollar store type items, and some things you wouldn't find at a Dollar Tree. The pricing is decent for most of the merchandise. the size of the store was a lot bigger than I thought it was gonna be. I loved how I found Foca liquid laundry detergent! I have been searching for that for awhile. I was stoked when I discovered they carried it! Especially at $1.99. Way cheaper than the $2.50 Family Dollar was selling it for. It's a cool store to check out if you're in the area. Parking is surely not an issue. If you need something I'm sure this place has it.

A lot of their items are higher quality and last a while - for example we have kayaks from here and other than some torn bungee cords they're in pretty good shape and were much more affordable than other options. The staff is also always as speedy as possible and pleasant while checking out. I can always count on Ocean state to have stuff for whatever random activity I want to take on.
