The team was not only extremely friendly between the front ladies and the back. They took their time to give me a detailed evaluation on the health of my gums, teeth and any concerns for future. Nadia was very professional and a ray of sunshine with her great personality. Gave me lots of time in between photos to ensure I was ready and not overwhelmed. Dr.Phero was great with reviewing my teeth as well as giving me feedback on which teeth to keep an eye on. The hygienists was able to answer all my questions about flossing and water flossing. She did mention and recommend switching to a electric toothbrush for a better regular cleaning when brushing. After today I will be scheduling my cleaning asap!! Came in to get a cleaning for myself and my daughter and they were so sweet and gentle for her first time! I really appreciated the fact that they explained everything to her so she wouldn't feel nervous. When it came to my appt, I completely forgot the time & day and they were able to get me in at the earliest convenience. If I were to have one criticism, it's to make sure if you are seeing the hygienist that you ensure your appt is around the time they are also there. The hygienist wasn't so I had to reschedule the actual cleaning part of my appt, but again, it was at the earliest convenience! This is by far the best family dentistry I have ever been to. I've seen at least 3-4 different doctors here for various procedures and they have all been extremely helpful, they don't try to oversell or inflate prices, they literally only give you what you need. I wouldn't even give them 1 star.. about a year ago I brought my children in to this dentist office. We went about 10 different visits in order to work on both my kids mouths. They needed some cavities filled and teeth pulled. I had a horrible experience and just brought my kids to a new dentist. All of the cavities only had temporary fills, they cracked 2 of my daughters teeth in half and a year later she still has an infection in her mouth they swear they got rid of and never did. If you value your kids and their health safety do not go to this dirty dentist office! I'm not one to write reviews but my poor kids teeth have suffered a great deal due to this place! WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND! They also remove negative reviews by the one so it doesnt look like people are unhappy they only leave the positive ones up and a bad one hear and there. read more

I am very surprised by the other reviews because thus far my brother has been going here for 3 years and they have been great. The best part is they call to update me when I need to be updated on his visits and they always check in to remind about his appointments (even when he is long overdue). Dr, Jafari. What can I say... the dentist is never "fun" to visit but Jafari took discomfort to a whole new level during a tooth extraction. After what he deemed fit as numbing the tooth/gum line, (any dentist I'd ever been to would poke/prod to ensure the area is numb) without pause the drilling started. After about 10 min the excruciating pain had me moaning in pain clutching the table with my hands. ie...stop and let's address the pain) Instead though, Jafari stopped, threw his hands in the air, told me that my grimacing was effecting his concentration and that if i continued to make any noises, he would stop the procedure and send me to an oral surgeon (far from needed for a chipped tooth extraction) not once, not a single time did he even express the slightest concern about my pain as he continued to drill. So I grabbed on to the chair handles and bore the pain as to not upset him anymore. Feeling the nerve being aggravated the entire time. After the procedure....i open my eyes, look up, and he's gone! Not one word spoken, not a recap, addressing my pain during treatment. Just literally vanished before my chair was even brought upright by the assistant. The tension was extreme since his outburst and was obviously upset at my moans of pain and moving my arms. The absolute worst, most unprofessional visit to a dentist I have ever had in my life. The level of compassion Jafari had for me and my comfort was the same as the amount of time he spent with me after the procedure.....absolutely none! I will say, excellent administrative staff. And I mean prob the best I've had. Timely, organized. And even took off a $15 fee for the day. They are all acceptable! One last thing to Mr Jafari is he reads this. I gave this practice an opportunity to reply to this experience on 3/28/22 and as of 5/2/22, they never replied. I hope to bring an awareness about my experience and to help others. I can honestly say I haven't ever had a painful teeth cleaning (mostly with gums and truly ear piercing noise) in my entire life before coming to this practice. The amount of disorganization, lack of professionalism, customer service, and up to date hardware/tools is highly disappointing. I can't even go into the rest of the concerns, and frustrations. Many of the frustrations that aren't mentioned include scheduling, or was a hassle to get straight answers and even today I was asked to pick a time for 6 months our on a certain day and I said 1pm. I was told 12:30. I said "you don't have 1pm?" Then i was told well I'll put you for 1pm but they'll probably move you. I'm thinking, "what?". The appointment setting and confirmation also had a discrepancy as well which I had to talk to 2 prions to understand why i was told to arrive at a different time than the confirmation and went through the hassle of explaining what occurred during scheduling and why the text confirmation one accurate. It turns out the scheduler told me the wrong time for the appt and someone switched it to a later time (15 min difference but still, i had it set with my work schedule). That seems to mirror what i was told today about "they'll provably move you" for the appt setting for 6 months in the future. What I can also say is that this clinic also told me things that varied from any clinic and dentist who had ever examined and cleaned my teeth and not in a good way. Their teeth cleaning tool makes a severely high pitched noise which is painful with the noise in the ears and the jamming of the hygienist into my gums. I was also splashed with the water several times as high as my brow line. This also has never happened anywhere else. I was also tilted in so many different ways while having the suction tool hanging from my inner cheek. I was even told when I was tilted and what felt to be a 45 degree downward angle (I felt the blood and pressure on my head), "don't worry, you won't fall". I felt the weight of my body being pulled downward that's how much of a decline I was at in the chair. To top that off, they had no one at the front reception area for an extended period of time on both occasions I was there. A patient had to use the clinic's phone number to get someone to come to the front desk area because the hygienist who put a chart up front saw people waiting and did nothing to get us assistance. I told the hygienist that I truly don't think I can sit through another painfully loud experience and I felt like the sound damaged my ears more than they are. The response I got was patients have been telling me about the loud sound recently, imagine how much hearing loss I must have or will have since I do this daily. I was floored. I also had to ask if certain things were supposed to occur like checking below the tongue for the cancer screening. Apparently the doctor was supposed to do that she said. He didn't. I asked if the debris comes over and checks the cleaning after it's done (I'm used to this literally everywhere I've been). She said no you already had your exam last week. Sadly I will be looking for a new dental clinic again. This was the worst experience in every way possible. I even had to correct the employee during check out process when I was almost charged nearly double. read more

My husband and I were traveling thru Mesa and decided that we needed to set an appointment to get our teeth cleaned. (We are full time RVers) We chose the Family Dentistry and went for our appointment. They asked us to do a review on line before getting our teeth done, which we really should not have done. The dentist came in both our rooms and said that we need a periodontist to check our teeth. After having her run numbers on our teeth, we were both told that we needed our teeth scaled because we "had gum disease". We left and thought what are the chances we both need the same thing done to our teeth. Well, we called and said that we just wanted to get our teeth clean and they said it could not be done because we were dx with gum disease. We have been to several dentists since then and when we mention this to them, they all have said "I don't know why they told you that, I see no evidence that you ever had gum disease. " When we got our EOB from our insurance company, the insurance did not pay for the mapping the periodontist did so we got stuck with a bill. You would have thought the office would have told us that before they did it. Anyway, that was back in early 2020. I think he was just wanting to get business for his periodontist. I only went to this dentist's office for a 1 year period to try a different practice as my old dentist had moved. I will start with the most recent issue I've had with them. I was debating leaving them to try a new practice before hand now that it's the new year, but this issue clinches it. I happened to receive a message on my home phone stating I had a bill from 11 months ago that was never paid. They tried texting my home phone and never received a reply. Okay, they didn't know it was a landline they were texting. They never called and left a voice mail in the past 11 months. They never emailed me anything and they never physically mailed me anything in all this time either. They stated my bill was going to collections today if I didn't call them to take care of it. Shouldn't a business be required to send you something by mail when a bill is going to collections? Fortunately I checked my messages the same day they left the message and paid before they closed that day. Very suspicious as this place ALWAYS had me settle up before I walked out the door after an appointment. I've never had this issue with any dentist over the decades I've been going to one. My other issue was every time I went in it seemed like the hygienist was always sick and coughing. When COVID hit I stopped going anywhere as it was in person, but this place was definitely a no go and that's really sad because this is my health. I always made it a point to show up a minute before my appointment was to start as they always kept me waiting. Then you wait a bit in the chair for the appointment to start, then you wait again in the waiting room until they are done preparing your bill. I never liked the triple wait. I will say as far as I know I've always received an honest appraisal of what needed to be done and felt the care I received was good. However this recent issue and their lack of trying to get a hold of me by only text message to a number that can't even receive text messages is VERY SHADY to me and I feel I've been taken advantage of. Now that I read reviews here and see comments on billing practices it really makes me wonder. I'm going back to my old dentist. I never had any of these issues there. read more

Stay far away from this place! I don't know where to begin. I went in for a tooth ache gave me antibiotics and said I needed a oral surgeon to remove the tooth. Countless calls and follow up a month later still no referral. They blamed it on my insurance turns out they never even set it in. Finally they say it's been to long require me to come in again start all over new xRays everything all over again. This time promised they would call me in three days of course they didn't. We have followed up several times to just be told to wait just like last time. Called insurance today they still haven't heard from them. My first visit l was told l needed two crowns, a complete cleaning, two cavities, (after a full set of xrays, which l argued l didn't want). The fillings were done wrong as l could not bite down or chew. They over billed me, as my insurance covered the cleaning for over $200. I went to another dentist who said l didn't need any crown work done. They also chipped my front tooth during the scaling/cleaning. Do not make the same mistake l made. My husband was a (first time) patient here in 2009, and the services provided were fine. Almost three years later we were in the middle of buying a house in 2012 when we got a call from a collection company regarding a past due amount (around $100) from that one and only appointment, that was apparently not covered by his dental insurance. We NEVER received a bill. We were outraged. It's amazing what a $100 collection claim will do to your nearly perfect credit score. I don't know how this place isn't shut down by the attorney general. Went in to just get my teeth cleaned. Of course they suggested getting a filling replaced. After having that done the dentist said, "Sorry about the added discomfort, I had to go a little deeper than I originally thought." Huh?! The pain and sensitivity increased over the next few weeks until I requested a follow up visit to address the problem. They got me in the next day (not such an impressive feat considering their waiting room is usually empty). Then they charged me over a hundred dollars to tell me that now I need a $2000 root canal on the same tooth they screwed up. WOW! I think I could get better service in Tijuana. I am FURIOUS! My son needed several filings but became ill from the anesthetic they'd used midway through the procedure. The team asked us to leave and did not mention scheduling to complete his work. I did not realize they had drilled but not filled until my son, who has autism, complained of "holes in my teeth." I took him to a pediatric dentist, who confirmed that the work had not been completed, and arranged to do the fillings. The new dentist contacted the insurance to confirm coverage...and Family Dentistry had billed the filings as done!!! This is FRAUD and absolutely unacceptable. I'm having to pay out of pocket to have my son's teeth fixed and plan to approach this office for reimbursement. I am absolutely galled at how this practice took advantage of a child with special needs, as well as our insurance. Shame. EDITED TO ADD: The office's official line is that the fillings "must have fallen out." Don't take your kids to an office that a) bills fraudulently; or b) prefers to stand by the fact that they must have done shoddy workmanship rather than commit fraud. read more

I wasn't going to write a scathing Yelp review about this dentistry practice until they just decided that a $25 fee for a missed appointment will not be removed from my bill. I so wish I had checked Yelp before going to this dentist, not only because of this fee, but also because of the "plan" they had for me. Turns out, after review by another dentist (who has a 5-star rating and is ranked one of the best in the valley), I don't need the hundreds of dollars in dental work this place said I needed. I also appreciate that the new dentist actually interacts by text message, rather than jut blasting out appointment reminders to patients. I was dealing with an illness and a new job the Friday before my scheduled appointment. When I got the text, I simply replied back that I would not be able to make it. I considered it a done deal. I did not realize until they called me 10 minutes after the appointment I thought I'd cancelled to ask where I was. I had found the new dentist weeks before this, but had forgotten about this scheduled cleaning. A reputable company would work around the misunderstanding, as I had never missed an appointment or been late before. Family Dentistry refused to "forgive" this $25. So I guess I'll look forward to seeing a collection agency try to collect on it. I will not be bullied into paying something I do not believe I should pay. read more

Honestly, I can't believe I did not look at the reviews before I went to this place. I agree with everyone else who claims they are after your money and this place should be shut down. I just got a bill for $20 from a visit back in Dec of 2013, they are now sending me to collections if I don't pay it. Side note: I had insurance at the time that covers cleanings at 100% but because the insurance company did not pay them the amount they wanted they are "balance billing" me. I am sending them a check for the stupid $20 to save my credit but believe me, this is wrong and I should not have to pay them anything. read more

But after he said I needed a root canal (never needed one), my roommate said "whoa, are you having any pain at all?" I wasn't. Got a 2nd opinion today from a DIFFERENT dentist, in Tempe. She said a root canal wouldn't help my situation at all. Not necessary. She impressed me as very honest. Can't say that for Family Dentistry. Also, their office manager outright lied to me about my insurance only going to cover this until end of the month--after that they wouldn't cover it. And that I needed to do the root canal first, before another tooth I need crowned gets treated: the only way insurance would cover it. Both totally bogus I found out, when I called my insurance company yesterday. Sure wish I had ck'd with Yelp before going to Family Dental! Reason? For my regular half an year check up & cleaning. Plus I don't have insurance so that's the only reason this time I went for a groupon. Ok let's start the story. I went there this morning, waited 25 mins then had a x-Ray taken by a young girl, then a doctor came and told me I had some kinda gum disease and 5 cavities. I was very shocked cuz I do go to my dentist every half a year. And actually a little over 7 months ago I even got my regular teeth cleaning & whitening done. My dentist told me Last time all l need to do is do a lily take more flossing, other than that my teeth were looking good! Half a year later, my teeth really got some kind of serious problem and gum diseases? Ok.. Another 30 mins later this young girl finally came back with an estimate for $1724 for my "deep cleaning" for next two visits. And also a credit plan. I remember when I had my gum bleeding a few years ago I had to get a deep cleaning and it was less than $600 at a dentistry in Chandler. So I told her it's ok I'll just do my regular cleaning. Ok put back in the waiting area again. 15 mins later, told me I'm free to go. Really? I asked what about my cleaning? I paid the offer on groupon. She said they can't do a regular cleaning for me because I need a deep cleaning. I have the estimate and it's optional. I repeated one more time that I paid the offer and it does include the regular cleaning. Ok now she says " you have to talk to groupon then, we don't promise to clean your teeth when your teeth need something more. I have other patients and I don't have time.." Wow of course I walked away, being very angry. Paid the money for cleaning and got nothing except all this BS. And wasted over 2 hours of just sitting there. How would you feel? I bought a Groupon for this place for a full exam, -xrays, whitening trays, and a cleaning. When I arrived, I was warmly greeted by the office staff, who are cheerful and sweet. The entire office is pretty big and really nice. Lots of magazines and Tv's..etc. As I went back, they told me they had to reschedule me for the cleaning and trays another da, because they were so busy. A little annoying, but sometimes these things happen. I came back the following week and had my cleaning done and I am happy as a clam. The office wasn't nearly as busy, and it was actually pretty quiet. The staff is awesome and the woman who did my cleaning was wonderful! I felt totally relaxed and calm, which is necessary when you are getting things jabbed into your teeth and gums for an hour. My teeth look and feel awesome. Another woman took me back and did the impressions for my whitening tray. She was also really nice and bubbly. All in all I am totally happy with this place and will be returning next week to get a cavity filled. read more

Went in on 3/17 to have a $480 3-tooth porcelain bridge (from Mexico) re-cemented in place. It had come loose after a year and a half. Family Dentistry said it was flawed and I needed a new one. They selected the Porcelain $2,142 option ("Most people prefer this...") instead of a half-price option at $1,071. The retainer is invisible in my mouth so cosmetics are not an issue. Over the next 4 months, they managed to ($cha-ching$) increase my bill to the tune of $1,737.10 (out of pocket) and billed my insurance $951.90 for a grand total of $2,689.00. Gluing the original bridge back in place was $80.00. They do know how to maximize their revenue. I should mention the fact that they had a problem with "the lab" and had to remake my appliance 3 times. Last effort was going to be expedited the week of August 19th. I finally discovered it was ready to insert November 4th. The office manager lied to me and insisted that two notices had been given and the delay was my fault. Not so. A further complication is that the competent dentist working with me is in only 1/2 day per month. Caveat Emptor, good people. I will never go back there. read more

Train wreck. This place is an absolute train wreck. I am truly surprised they are still in business. Absolutely should have read the reviews. Would have saved me time, money and irritation. I have seen high school student senate meetings that are more organized than this office. Wait time was longer than my appointment, and not because they were packed. Reception played on their phones and did a far less than impressive job of occasionally fumbling files. Professionalism apparently is not required nor desired. Suggested work I needed done was immense. Apparently a bomb went off in my mouth that thousands of dollars could fix. They offered a horrible financing plan to help you handle all the expenses before even being asked as if they were used to peddling the product, knowing that even insurance may not cover some of what they may have been suggesting. This place is like a chop shop. Worse than that mechanic that charges folks for services not rendered. Word to the Wise. Move along. This is not the dental practice you are looking for. read more

I am so sad:( I have been going to this Office for at least 5 years. I had a gut feeling early on that I should have listened to. Everytime that I go in for a cleaning, they say there is a balance on my account. I am just supposed to drop the cash then and there. I understand that the price that I paid for my crown, my husbands filling was an estimate. The office had to wait for reimbersment from the dental insurance company. From what I understand the amount that they cover varies. This last time Kelly (The front office women)said the balance was over $100. I told her that I could pay when I got paid. Although, when she called me, I told her after balancing my checkbook, I was wrong. I could pay about half, then I would pay the other half next week. She said No, that I had told her I would pay today and that if I did not pay, she would send the bill for about $100 to collections. I understand the need to get paid. I am sad, that we could not work this out. I will be taking my family of 7 to another dentist office. I should have listened to my intuition long ago:( I would not recommend this office. Kelly then told me that I always make them wait for payment. When I asked her when was the last time I made her wait for payment or never paid in full? She said well that it was in General. I have paid them well over $1500 cash this year. I will pay them the $50 today and the rest next week. I guess Our business is not that important to them. One good thing is, I am really looking forward to getting a second opinion on the dental work they have recommended. I will be happy to pay for service elsewhere.
