This place came highly recommended and it's a hit and miss on a few things. First, the staff is amazing, very friendly. The bartender was awesome. Great cocktails. The food I had was fish and chips and that was quite good. For dessert, I had their famous crème brûlée, and looked like the crème was old and broken and liquidy on the bottom took a couple of bites and didn't eat it. It came back to bite me later at night with upset stomach, and diarrhea. I stayed in their courtyard suite, and that was a letdown. Nothing like the photos, smell, funky, old dilapidated, flooring and furniture. Couch had holes in it and look like dogs had slept on it or something. Also, the bed had a funky smell so much so that I had a problem sleeping and I had to wrap the the pillows with towels. I've attached some pics of what the room actually looks like. Also, the bathroom is pretty tight. I'm not a big person, but I had a hard time sitting down on the toilet. There's literally no space between the toilet and the sink. If you do come up this way, the bar and food is good, but I probably camp out next time. It looks like they charged me an extra $36 service fee on top of the tax without letting me know that there was gonna be any additional service fees. I was not super impressed. I got the clam chowder, it did not really taste like a traditional clam chowder, and it was pretty spicy. The meal was a chicken dish that was way too salty. The waitress did not write everyone's order down correctly, but we just ate what was served, since we were hungry. Not many dining options around here, but I don't think I'll be back. The only building left standing in the town! Cute and homey. Not only did we rent a room, but we grabbed a bite to eat at the restaurant too. The rent a room, you see the barkeep and are handed a physical key. Then you either walk through the courtyard to climb the steps to the top of the building for your suit, or you traverse through the maze of doors inside. Both are interesting and exciting. It was either 80 some odd dollars for a quaint room with a full (I think), or $100 or so for the valley view suite which includes a queen, a living room/kitchen, and a spare with a twin. Definitely old in style but enjoyable. When you're ready, you can head on down to the bar or restaurant. We split an appetizer of fried mushrooms/zucchini, a salad, prime rib with loaded baked potato, mixed veggies, and an extra side of mashed potatoes. recently under new ownership. new decor is fantastic. menu is excellent. a bit pricey for this area but the food is superb. I had fish and chips which was excellent at $20. My wife had the scallops, also yummy at $25.But only four scallops? Six would be a better amount. four is just flat out overpriced. Also included asparagus which were very thin and thus overcooked. The new management has some improvements to make but they are headed in the right direction. First, it is important to look at every reviewed place IN CONTEXT, and in this particular hotel, that means consider where it is. This is a very very very low population density area. It's relatively close to some important jumping-off areas like fly-fishing haven, Hat Creek, but frankly, it's a miracle that this place is solvent in the days of the Pandemic and the present economic circumstances which make it hard for any business at all to hire people at all!!!! I was here for a big bike ride, the Fall River Century. The ride itself is fantastic and totally recommended! Many people camp for this ride but I needed electricity and wanted to bring my wife and dog so my search brought me to the Fall River Hotel. An old building in a very underutilized area full of great people, though not many of them, it is NOT a Courtyard Marriott or whatever. It is a small country hotel that serves great meals and great drinks in a traditional setting where locals hang out and all are welcome! The room we had had a decent bed and clean bathroom at a super super reasonable price. The weather was crazy hot, in the mid-90's here, it was 107F in Redding, where many people would probably stay, quite far away! The room (actually a bed room and little living room opening to a deck) had 2 ceiling fans and a powerful room fan. Even though it was quite hot! The hotel is quite old and creaky at night, which might upset some, but the heat may have contributed to not sleeping well. As such, I would highly recommend coming to the Fall River Hotel in the "shoulder seasons", like Oct or Nov when the weather is more "normal" so one can enjoy the astounding beautiful area as shown in the below photographs I took from my bicycle in a 25 mile circle around the Hotel! read more

The hotel's open areas and rooms are run down. My rooms wasn't clean. There was no AC in the room. The windows didn't lock. The bed wasn't bad but wasn't exactly comfortable either. I won't stay at this hotel again. In fact, I called about 10 hotels in Burney and Redding trying to get a better room but wasn't able to book one. Had I found one, I would have forfeited the money I paid for the room at the Fall River Hotel and taken it. You can do much better. read more

My husband and I are currently staying at the Fall River Hotel. I feel compelled to leave a review about this place because of the surprises I've encountered. Background: We are a gay couple that wanted a couple days away from our life stresses. The town itself is small and looks a little run down, so we were concerned pulling in. Room: 4/5. The room was clean and very reasonably priced. They are a bit spartan, and a little older, but they face a nice courtyard and allowed us to bring our dog. Restaurant 4/5: The food was very tasty, with prime rib on Friday that couldn't have been better, and I will talk about about service later. The only complaints I have are the price is a bit high compared to the cost of the hotel room, and there is no food service available until 11:30. Customer Service (7/5): The service here is astounding. The staff have all been friendly, sociable, and beyond expectations. Particularly, Jeff the cook, PJ the chef (I think), Maryann the waitress and Kayla the bartender have been amazing. Jeff was kind enough to help me understand what was expected of my dog (she's never gone on a trip like this before). I do think there needs to be a bit more staff, as Kayla is not just the bartender, but the front desk clerk, and I think, maybe the booking agent? Overall, Fall River Mills has been a pleasant surprise as a town, and the Fall River Hotel should definitely go on your list of places to escape to. read more

My review is strictly for the bar, but would I stay there? YES! It was adorable, quiet and old-timey. My cousins and I were staying nearby in lake houses but passed this place and couldn't resist. We grabbed our drinks and went out back to eat/drink in the courtyard near a lovely water feature. We went back in for round two (and three!). Glad we did because Jeff was a hoot!! This is my first time in this town, very nice place but this hotel is horrible. I came here for work & my co workers & I needed a place to stay but honestly at first the hotel seemed a little sketch, it looked creepy & once we got to our room it was horrible. There was spiders & webs all on the ceiling, we let that slide at first, we didn't think it was that big of a deal but once we started to check are bed. That's when we saw such a disgusting mattress, they covered a bunch of clean sheets on that so we wouldn't notice the nasty mattress. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless you don't mind sleeping in filth. We also noticed that the toilet wasn't flushed, it had pee all on the bowl & toilet seat. read more

Make sure you see any /all rooms before you pay. Definitely avoid the rooms above the garage. They are dark, dingy, and musty smelling. The sofa and chair, (broken), as well as the carpet- was old, stained, and had holes. The kitchen table, stove and countertops were not cleaned. These rooms are badly in need of a deep cleaning, a fresh paint job, repairs, and new furniture. Sorry I wasted my time and money at Falls River Hotel. read more

I needed to check out a day earlier and the owner only charged me for 2 days not the 3 that I intended to stay till. As a female solo traveler, I didn't feel safe traveling to and from the National Park and Mt Shasta as there is no phone service in the area. (I had some service at the hotel but it wasn't great) However later on that night, I started getting bug bites on my legs I looked down and saw I had breakfast, lunch and dinner bites on me indicating there were bed bugs present on the bed. I had about 15 bites. I was able to find to fine one bed bug and took a photo of it and then flushed it down the toilet. When I told the owner about the situation he response was "there are bugs everywhere you go. What do you want me to do? Kill it for you? One beg doesn't mean an infestation. Unless you find more, I won't move your room". It is so hard to find bed bugs in the first place as they like to hide so no I couldn't find more. However while inspecting the bed, I did see dark stains indicating bed bugs. I woke up the next morning with more bites. Also someone's dirty sock was in the sheets. Food wise I had the best bread and garlic bread there. I also ordered the penne chicken Alfredo. The chicken was delicious. However the sauce wasn't a traditional Alfredo sauce, it contains mushrooms. Was not good. read more

Ordered the chicken Marsala and it was impressive. I was not expecting the bouquet of flavors. It was coupled with mashed potatoes and veggies that were definitely well prepared. I can't tell you when the last time I had a great meal delivered to my room. It was great and so are the accommodations. Room is large and has everything you need for a comfortable evening. Had an outstanding time here. I rate this establishment 5/5 for what it is, a welcoming place to stay in rural California. Spent 3 nights here, went and talked story in the bar on the 1st evening gathering recommendations from the locals about where to take the family the next day. Spent new years eve asleep in the warm suite we rented after a long day paddling around were the locals recommended. Poked around the state park, saw some sculptures worthy of the next "Peewee's big adventure" sequel, then reluctantly drove home on 1/2/18. Harvested some wild game too. Ribeye was cooked exactly as ordered, no steak sauce necessary. Our dog had no complaints either (about the suite; didn't give him steak). read more

A big shout out to Fall River Hotel for providing the most wonderful meal for the Fall River Century bicycle ride today! After riding up the hills in the heat, it was beyond our expectations to see veggie lasagna, shredded chicken, shredded beef, every kind of fresh salsa, tasty black beans, pinto beans, shrimp ceviche , wild rice salad with all kinds of fresh veggies, premium ice cream with peach cobbler. Am I missing something? Probably!!! There was so much and they allowed me to have everything I wanted! Each and every item tasted outstanding, all fresh and tender. My family and I are visiting up to Fall River Mills and we're looking for lunch. We where recommended to the Fall River Hotel so we looked up the website online ordered over the phone. Upon arriving to the hotel to pick up our food our bill was much larger than we anticipated so we started to compare the prices online to the prices that we had on the receipt and the prices that were charged in the restaurant were much larger than what the website was advertising. When I asked the waitress and management about this they were all aware of the situation and didn't know how to fix the situation of the prices online. I was still charged the higher price and was met with great attitude from Scott the OWNER!I was left very upset and my hands are still staking from this bad situation. All I was asking for was the prices be matched for what they are advertising online and they didn't do it. read more

Normally I only Yelp when I have a five star experience somewhere so that others won't overlook an incredible experience. However, this is a humanitarian issue where I feel obligated to warn unsuspecting travelers about the pit called the Fall River Hotel & Restaurant. At some restaurants you'll get a vacant waitress that doesn't seem to understand what her job entails. At other restaurants you'll get a surly waitress that knows what she's supposed to be doing but is ticked off that she's the one that has to do it. At Fall River Hotel & Restaurant the waitresses are both surly and vacant. Asked for silverware and napkins, couldn't be bothered. Had to get them ourselves. Three tables in the very small cafe area were never bussed in the hour that we were there. The cook only prepares one order at a time so when my husband went to the kitchen (that's where the staff hangs out chatting and being sulky that they have to work) after 45 minutes they said 'Yeah, your orders ready'. So what's it sitting in the kitchen for? Is it a Christmas Turkey that needs to rest 20 minutes before serving? Sheesh, bring on the breakfast, I've got two kids here who are being more patient than is warranted. Breakfast is served. Here's an outtake of our conversation: me: Excuse me, what's this here? she: That's a breakfast sandwich. me: (my daughter) didn't order a breakfast sandwich. she: Yes she did. me: No, she ordered a short stack of pancakes. she: Nuh uh. me: Yuh huh. she: Fine. (hulks away to change the order in the computer at the register but NOT to get the rest of the food sitting patiently in the kitchen). Oh yeah, that's right, she put an extra short stack on the bill. Guess that original short stack was already in there. The bill was corrected. No apology was given. For the wait, for the wrong order, for the overcharging, for the general lack of cleanliness, for the...grrrrrrr. Food - sub par (the dog got everyone's bacon when we got back to the car - seriously, who screws up bacon?) The only hotel in Fall River mills. While I have never actually stayed in the rooms I have eaten in the lobby bar area and the food is quite good. Lots of locals in for happy hour and an early bite to eat. Try the burger and a ice cold hex beer the next time you are near. read more

As I write this I'm staying at the Fall River Hotel. I don't get all the poor reviews here because so far I've been very nicely treated. The room I have was very clean (though dated, but heck, this place is practically a historic site, built in 1935 or so. The bar is friendly and drinks are generous. The food is above average, was served within an acceptable wait and very fairly priced. The ambiance is terrific, recalling old times, yet there are plenty of modern amenities. In a recent road trip, we made a point to not stay at chain hotels, but rather to explore old, historic hotels/motels in Northern California. Fall River Hotel did not disappoint! It has all the old charm and character you could ask for. Built in 1939, this historic hotel/restaurant was exactly what we were looking for. We booked Rm 301 on the 3rd floor. When we opened the door, we couldn't believe how BIG it was. Living room, master bedroom and 2 separate small rooms with beds. It was perfect for the four of us. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable and the towels were fresh. Plus it had all the little quirks of old hotels (i.e. sink in the master bedroom and light switch on outside of bathroom - son LOVED scaring little sister with that!) We didn't get a chance to dine at the restaurant, but the food sure looked good! It was nice to enjoy this hotel after a long day of driving and exploring. read more

As close to fine dining as you can get along the main drag through Fall River Mills and McArthur in the Fall River Valley (seasonal choices at various lodges excluded), at least until the new place in McArthur opens (Spring, 2008 is projected), the departure of the head chef credited with he restaurant's resurgence leaves owners Scott and Sandy Jensen and a friendly staff, but some question regarding the status of the cuisine to be offered. Still, despite occasionally slow service, it's our choice for a place to be with friendly people, having above average food, and encouraging a local business to keep raising the bar. They've been five stars in the recent past. But there's been some one star days on either side of their ex-chef's tenure. So, time will have to tell. read more

It was a bit understaffed when we were there, and our servers hustled to get the food out hot and keep our drinks full. I'm a sucker for historic places, and this one is super charming. Nothing but good things to say. Great room rates! I was actually referred to the place by a guide. Nothing fancy but comfortable and warm with friendly local service. Lunch and dinner are pretty dang good for a small town. Never had breakfast so I cant speak for that. The bar staff is super friendly pours tall drinks and is always making conversation. This isnt a fancy place but if locals eat here there is a reason. All in all it's a great place to rest and get a warm shower while hunting, fishing, hiking or after being outdoors. read more

Portions were just right, prices were great, can't wait to go back. We usually go for lunch because a few years ago, our dinner experiences weren't great. The "nicest" place to eat in downtown Fall River (wait - did I just call it a 'downtown'?). The service can be pretty slow on a crowded night but there's no better dish to be had around these parts than their hamburger. I prefer eating at the small secluded side bar while talking to Scott, the friendly owner and bartender. There are a couple of small yet comfortable tables back there and no better place to people watch (besides the competing Mayfly Bar, around the corner). Note: They have the only hard-liquor license in Fall River so don't expect to sip on some Jack anywhere else in town. read more
