My visit to Fall Mist Ranch was very pleasant, dogs were happy, healthy and roaming free, not contained like one would picture a puppy mill at all. I had the pleasure of meeting a few of the canines personally, fleas and ticks were not an issue! It was very clear to me that the dogs were part of the family and not at all solely for reproduction. I can't believe what I am reading! I bought my dog through Kris 2 years ago and I didn't have any problems with her at all. She was always there if I had a question. If I didn't get her when I phoned she usually called me back by the next day. Once I got my puppy, Kris was always there to get me through some questions I had. I keep in touch with another family that bought their puppy through Fall Mist Ranch as well. That family talks to Kris on a daily basis and has also visited the ranch a couple times as well. I understand that every situation is different and I'm sorry to hear your puppy came to his or her new home sick. But, I will not second guess my purchase of a dog through Fall Mist Ranch and possibly one in the future! read more

These are horrible breeders! Fall Mist Ranch is a puppy mill. According to the Humane Society: "Puppy mills are breeding facilities that produce purebred puppies in large numbers. Often the puppies are sold directly to the public via the Internet, newspaper ads, or at the mill itself. In other cases they are sold to brokers and pet shops across the country. The myriad documented problems of puppy mills include: overbreeding, inbreeding, minimal veterinary care, poor quality of food and shelter, lack of human socialization, overcrowded cages and the killing of unwanted animals." The Humane Society furthers (and unfortunately I can relate to the following statement) : "For the unwitting consumer, this situation frequently means buying a puppy facing an array of immediate veterinary problems or harboring genetic diseases that surface years later." If you want a dog that has been treated with love and cared for from day one-do not buy from them. We bought a puppy from them and it was a nightmare! Flea infested, huge ticks, ring worm, dehydrated, and starving are just some of the health problems our puppy faced as a result of poor breeding conditions. Our puppy spent her first 3 days with us in the hospital. Our vet said she would have likely died if we had not brought her in when we did. In addition, our vet has signed an affidavit stating that the health conditions our puppy faced were directly related to the poor breeding practices she suffered while at Fall Mist Ranch. I have read the reviews as well, and also cannot believe what I'm reading. I have been to their house several times. They are very passionate about dogs, and love all of them very much. Kris has either bred, groomed or worked at a vet's office her whole life. She is fantastic with dogs. To say that they can not be good breeders just because they breed more than one dog or breed of dog at a time is silly. Don't you have more than one thing you are responsible for at your job? This is their job! They are just lucky enough to be able to do something they love doing, raise and love dogs. Their dogs all get regular exercise and affection. They know the name, the birth date, mother and father, etc for every one them. As for the women who said she received a dog from them with giardia and coccidia, your dog could have gotten the giardia as soon as he got to your house by eating mud in your yard. Fall Mist Ranch has to have all of their dogs tested for all these things at a vet's office before they can go to their new homes. I see you live in Omaha, NE about the same cost of living as where I am. Spending $400 at the vet should not make you worry about your dogs future, I spend that over something as simple as an ear infection on my dog. I joke that I can not walk into the vet's office for less than $100. Kris and Steve raise dogs. They also have a some horses that they love to ride. That is what they do, nothing else. it is easy to judge something we don't understand but don't we all work long hours outside the home, have dogs and cats, raise children, etc. The point is we all are able to handle multiple things going on in our lives everyday so how can you say that Kris and Steve aren't capable of taking care of several dogs when that is all they do? It is an unfair statement until you have seen it for yourselves. I would highly recommend purchasing a dog from them. read more

I am mystified by the vitriolic reviews that I just read. I bought a Newfondland for my son 2 years ago and he was one of the best looking dogs and was everything that was promised. Unfortunately the dog was hit by a car and had to be put to sleep. My son was crushed. So, a few months after the accident I took another trip to Fall Mist Ranch and explained the situation to Steve and Kris. They had a couple more Newfoundland puppies available and they GAVE one to me to replace our lost companion. The new pup is now 1 year old and is as healthy and loving as his brother was. Let me repeat, they GAVE MY SON a new companion, hoping that he would help him through his grief. We were prepared to pay and had cash in hand but they would not take a penny . I was stunned! This is hardly the profile of the people I have been reading about in the reviews. Not only that but the dogs that I saw on the ranch were large, friendly Leonbergers that were "retired". Retired dogs are not exactly something that "dirty filthy puppy mills" are prone to keep. I know they are in the business of raising dogs but the ones I have received have been excellent and I love dealing with people with a heart. After researching a specific dog breed online for months, I came across the listing for Fall Mist Ranch. I called and spoke with one of the owners who seemed knowledgable and acted like he cared about his dogs. We decided to travel 7 hours to pick up a puppy. When we arrived, it was clear that this was not a dedicated breeder. It was obviously a puppy mill. I can't count the number of dogs around that farm. Being a little stunned, we took the puppy home to find out he had giardia and coccidia. Tried to contact the breeders regarding puppy's health and never received a response. Keep in mind- we payed over $1000 for this puppy. I have now paid $400 in vet bills to make him healthy. He is a sweet puppy- but I am scared to death what the future holds. read more

We also purchased a Leonberger puppy from Fall Mist Ranch but had a very different experience from some of those listed. We traveled over 800 miles to see their Ranch and pick out our puppy. We found Kris and Steve to be conscientious breeders with every possible luxury and comfort provided for their dogs. We were very impressed with the love and care provided for each and every dog. Yes, there were dogs playing around the house as one reviewer stated. I considered it a plus that the dogs were not penned up in enclosures but allowed to run and play with their friends as dogs should be allowed to. They have several house dogs that are non breeding pets. They are NOT breed as another reviewer seems to think. Although they do breed more than one type of dog, I agree with Renee F. who says that we all multi task today and are rewarded for doing so effectively. Just because a breeder cares for and loves more than one type of dog does not automatically put him/her in the category of the evil doers. One reviewer states that they have horses. Yes, they do, and they are also pets, well cared for and provided for as anyone can plainly see who visits their ranch. I have tracked down several other pet owners who have had a wonderful experience at Fall Mist Ranch and have nothing but accolades for them and for their dog. But, this is Yelp.com where the whiners go to vent. There are many, many more satisfied pet owners out there who would be glad to tell their story, and I am clearly one of them. We had a terrible experience with this breeder. First of all, we were not informed that their so called purchase guarantee requires that the dogs perpetually take a specific brand of Vitamin tablet. More importantly, one of the puppies was determined to be Unfit For Sale by our Veterinarian due to hip dysplasia, meaning we are entitled to a full refund under NJ law and the folks at Fall Mist are being extremely uncooperative with regard to this matter. Why or all the positive reviews deleted on this site. It seems to me that a good review will only stay up a short while, but the bad reviews forever. They are breeders that know what they are doing, they know DOGS. They dedicate themselves fully to loving and caring for them. This is what they do. This is their passion. They aren't just your average Jo, allowing their pet to get pregnant, not knowing a thing about what they are doing. They are breeders that take this serious, not only breeding quality dogs but giving them love and care and treating them like family. At Fallmist they get to run freely,& each has a name and is loved. I have seen this place first hand, Yes- I am a friend of theirs, but I also love dogs and dont want to see any harmed. Maybe some people have had a bad experience, but I know Kris and Steve have had many positive and happy customers too, and unfortunately people are more likely to post with bad news than good. Please- Instead of taking other peoples word, go see for yourself, they truly have a great passion for what they do. read more

I would bet my Leo that these breeders are not doing any type of genetic testing for hip dysplasia or arthritis. Our Leo is 6 now going on 100, we love our Leo (they are the best dogs ever) and continue to do anything we can to make her quality of life what it should be, but it's hard when you know deep down the Leo is suffering because the breeders at Fall Mist do nothing to ensure their pups will not suffer with painful genetic issues. She has suffered from hip dysplasia and arthritis since 3 (I didn't think this was possible) Oh, and did I mention when we got our Leo pup she had ear mites and coccidia, which are from poor housekeeping and dirty conditions. So please do not get your Leo pup from here and maybe if everyone stops going to Fall Mist we can stop them from breeding and making Leo's suffer. I watch my 6 year old Leo drag herself across the floor because she is so stiff and in so much pain and I want to tell Fall Mist that they should be ashamed of themselves. My Leo is now recovering from a $3000 ACL surgery because her joints are giving out on her...makes me sick. Fall Mist Ranch you are horrendous and I wish the pain my Leo feels everyday on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Oh and by the way, they breed about 5 other types of dogs as well, complete puppy mill...don't let them fool you, on the phone, on email, or in person on their huge dirty ranch - they act like they care so much about each animal they have and it's completely fake!) read more
