    Chicken Shawarma Platter
    Kellie R.

A gem on South Street! I ordered via grub hub and it was ready when I went to pick up. There's nothing fancy about the interior but the workers were friendly (he even gave me a hot falafel to go) and the platter was DELICIOUS!

I got the Syrian shawarma and had to come write a review because the pomegranate molasses sauce was insanely good. Tangy but with a bit of sweetness that was so interesting and delicious. I would've loved the pita to be grilled down more / crunchier and perhaps thicker chicken pieces would've made for a better balance of textures, but overall, would highly recommend. The price is also such a steal for the size of the shawarma ($10!!), service is fast, and the staff are so nice!! They even give out free samples of some food.

I like the Fitler Square area, and had probably walked by Falafel Time 100 times without going in....until today. I have mentioned in some of my previous reviews, I compare all falafel wraps to the one I get at Taim in Soho (Spring and Mulberry). I thought I would try one at Falafel Time. I'm glad I did. While it doesn't meet the level of Taim, it was a very tasty wrap. I'm a little different in that I prefer only tahini with the falafel-no salad. The falafel here was (as it should be) the star of the show. While you can't tell from the picture, the wrap was adequately filled with several falafel which had crispy exteriors and moist, tender, and well seasoned chickpea interiors. The 'secret' to this restaurant's falafel...it's made fresh to order. I only waited 7 or 8 minutes, but it was well worth the wait, as you can tell they just came out of the fryer! I would have preferred less tahini, but otherwise it was a delicious wrap. I will return to Falafel Time the next time I'm in Fitler Square - I'll ask for a little less tahini!

Very tasty spot! Ordered a sandwich (no tomatoes) and the guy said it'd be a fifteen minute wait. Sandwich was 10 dollars but additional 2 dollar fee to use credit card. Would recommend!

A few things to know if you've never been to Falafel Time: 1. This is a predominantly take-out business. The space is small, and there is one small table inside that I have never seen anyone using. 2. Their signage says they are cash only, but they also have signage stating they accept cards. I have never had an issue using a card, but as a small business of course cash is preferred. 3. While the name is Falafel Time, the main event here is the chicken shawarma. The first time I tried Falafel Time, a friend and I called in our order and walked over to pick it up. We got a chicken shawarma platter with fries instead of rice, beef kabobs, hummus and pita, and a salad. The portions were HUGE, we had enough to feed four people. The hummus portion alone was super generous, especially considering the price point. And it was some of the most fresh and delicious hummus I have had in a while. The beef kabobs were a bit dry for my preference, but this did not matter because that chicken shawarma platter was out of this freakin world! For a recent takeout lunch order, I ordered through Yelp. I decided to add falafel to my chicken shawarma platter and the whole meal came out to $15. The platter is a very generous service and it comes with a small salad too. The falafel was good, not my favorite ever. But as always, the chicken shawarma delivered.

Ordered delivery through Grubhub, got a text to let me know that the food was dropped off at the front door. I appreciate the no contact delivery but where's my food? I texted the delivery person and didn't get an answer right away, I was about to complain to Grubhub. Finally I got a text that the food was delivered to my neighbor . Luckily it's still there so I could get it. Whoever delivered the food needs to pay attention to the address. Schawarma is delicious, chicken is tender, rich in Mediterranean spice. I had mine with hummus. Perfect pairing. Highly recommended. Baba ganoush is ok, not on my favorite. Falafel isn't big and on the dry side. Baklava: you get 2 decent size baklava. Not too sweet but buttery. I can taste the butter. Nice crisp phyllo Next time I will try the schawarma platter

I was lured in here by the outstanding Yelp reviews. Falafel Time is primarily a take-out place. There are a few stools, but its best to get it to go. The food for take-out was fine, but not worth twice as much money than a Street Cart Vendor for the equivalent food. I got a Chicken Kebab platter at $10.99 and a Tabouli salad for $5.99. The Chicken kebab was good, but not at all flavorful as I've come to expect with this entree. The platter came with rice, pita and salad on the side. The Tabouli salad was mostly parsley and a small portion. Overall, I was left a little unsatisfied with my experience. Next time, I would definitely get food from a Street Cart Vendor and save myself a few dollars.

Falafel time is a small falafel/kebab/shawarma joint that is predominately for take out food. They do have a few seats inside and a small table outside. The food is OK - it's serviceable for what it is - cooked very fresh and the portions are great but not a ton of flavor. Really a 3 star place. What puts it over the top to 4 is service. Incredibly friendly, helpful and generous. I'm not sure I would run back there for the food, but the service makes you consider it!

Falafel time has become one of my go to takeout joints. It is expensive for what it is. Street food cart vendors sling $5 meat over rice platters that rival the $10.99 deluxe platters here. Alas Falafel Time is way closer to me. And I understand that brick and mortar stores have a much higher overhead cost. If I didn't love so close I probably wouldn't come here nearly as often. So it is more of a convenience play for me. I always get a platter. I used to love getting the French fry platter but recently I have switched over to a "healthier" rice platter. Healthier in quotes because the rice is seasoned well with oil, spices, and herbs. Tasty but my cardiologist would most likely not approve. Platters also come with a little serving of healthy greens on the side. They have recently swapped out the pickles for beets. (Note to management: Bring back the pickles!) The chicken shawarma is nice and juicy and flavorful. It is my favorite meat offering. Ironically their name sale falafel is probably their weakest protein offering. They top every platter off with a pita. Nice a fluffy. The platter portion size is large enough to fill you so you no need to order any apps or dessert. The guys behind the counter are great and I have had so many positive interactions with them. One time I dropped my takeout order right after I paid and they fired up another platter on the grill for me right away, free of charge. Best Mediterranean food in grad hospital but not in philly.

Best Thing I Ever Ate: Hummus, Lamb Shoulder…read more This was my second visit to Zahav while visiting Philadelphia. I'm glad I had visited before because I knew the importance of pacing myself. I knew I could only enjoy a little knibble of each of the delicious salads that were initial placed on the table. I think I ate all the twice-cooked eggplant. It was so good! The hummus is honestly the best I've ever had, and the laffa bread is such a yummy accompaniment. I had to stop myself from eating too much! I tried the Phyllo-wrapped Haloumi. It was ok, but I liked my dad's Freekeh Arancini better. The Pomegranate Lamb Shoulder is the reason I had to pace myself. This is also one of my favorite lamb dishes that I've ever had. The greens are a nice accomaniment. I didn't care for the crispy rice, and it was the only thing I didn't like. I got the Pecan Konafe for dessert and it was like an exotic pecan pie. Love this! The honey ice cream was so refreshing after a big meal. I left very happy.

I cannot think of a single way Zahav could have been a better culinary experience. I came to know…read moreabout this restaurant through Eater's "Mise En Place" video series on YouTube and was struck by the care and contemplation put into each dish. The second I knew I was visiting Philly, I set a reminder on my phone to vie for a reservation. We got a 9:30pm reservation, which was late for my usual dining habits but absolutely no question worth the extra few hours to build up and appetite and anticipate going to such a renowned restaurant. We were met with a beautiful dining room and kind, passionate people at Zahav, especially our bartenders, who made our experience a true EVENT, describing each dish to us even as we were making decisions on the tasting menu, and vouching for the fact that we MUST try the halloumi, which ended up being my favorite dish! Wow, the care that is put into the craft of this food is unreal. Zahav is a true celebration of cuisine. We started with the laffa bread being served straight out of the fire with accompaniments which were absolute flavor bombs, especially the eggplant and pickled cabbage. The bread was warm, soft, and so flavorful in itself but made even better by the hummus-tehina, which was perhaps the smoothest I've ever had. The Pomegranate Lamb Shoulder fell right off the bone, and the Amba-braised Greens and Crispy Persian Rice were side dishes that felt like main events in themselves -- the crispiness of the rice perfectly complemented the pomegranate sauce of the lamb. This was the perfect celebration dinner, and Zahav quickly made it to the top of my list of places that live up to their hype and go above and beyond in the kindness realm.

During my wife's and my time there, they never had an empty table that wasn't being quickly cleared for a waiting party, and we heard people assigned considerable waits when they tried to walk in. I give the benefit of the doubt that the hectic, holiday-adjacent nature of the day we went in contributed to us not receiving mugs for the tea pot we ordered or some of the longer waits between waitstaff visits. But the food and atmosphere? Through the roof. We were fortunate enough to have scored the coveted front window seating section, a luxuriously spacious and cushioned special seating option that only one party at a time can enjoy (all other seats are traditional chair-and-table arrangements), so we were especially high on the subject of atmosphere, but even had we not secured the ideal seating, I would have enjoyed the chill, evocative music coming from the restaurant's speakers. The food was the main event, of course, and it delivered. We started simple, with a hummus app. The humus was great and the flatbread really stood out - ideal density, great, light crispness to the outside, soft but at no risk of being too chewy or doughy on the inside. I ordered the salmon dish, which arrived in a big, black sizzling iron bowl. The salmon and tender little potato chunks were in a shakshuka-like red sauce and paired excellently with the plate of rice, fresh raisins, garlic slivers, and carrot bits that accompanied it. I honestly don't love raisins, but this was clearly a "have faith in the recipe" situation and I really enjoyed when they would assert themselves a bit against the sauce. My wife ordered a falafel salad platter, which she was kind enough to let me try; best falafel I've eaten in a good number of years, and she agreed (which means even more than my endorsement, since she falafel much more frequently than I do). I've eagerly recommended Malooga to friends and associates since and can't wait to get back and order some lamb!
