Not only was the checkout area adorned with pretty valentine's balloons, but Latin & Caribbean flags were also hung throughout the middle of the store. Makes me wanna break out in song...debí tirar más fotos de cuando te tuve...if you saw Bad Bunny's Halftime performance, then you know the vibe. On a more serious note, this supermarket is spacious, offering a wide variety of international and American products, alongside fresh meat, seafood, and produce. I came to buy some snapper to cook for dinner. In the back of the supermarket there is a large open refrigerated case displaying a variety of fresh fish stored on a bed of crushed ice. I assume you can choose the quantity you want. Tongs and thick plastic bags are provided for handling and storing the fish. The fish are gutted, so all you have to do at home is scale and wash them to your preference. I will definitely check out a Key Food supermarket closer to me whenever I plan to make a meal that requires international ingredients. Their prices are reasonable, and they always offer weekly sales and deals.

After finally stepping inside a few months back, I can honestly say they live up to it. There's a very good chance they have that one product you loved back home. For the longest time, I would just drive past this store and head straight to the more popular chain supermarket. But once I started going to a gym right next door, Key Foods became part of my routine. They're already open by the time I'm leaving the gym at 7 AM, which is incredibly convenient, and the first time I walked in, I was genuinely amazed. The fresh seafood selection is impressive, and the range of Caribbean ingredients is extensive to say the least. I honestly cannot wait for my mom to visit from the Caribbean so I can bring her here and I know she'll be excited to see all the familiar products from home. The staff are efficient and welcoming. They speak enough English for easy communication, and with my limited (but helpful!) Spanish, we always manage just fine. Out of respect, I try to greet them in Spanish, and they always respond with a smile. They keep the place clean and organized as well. If you're looking for very fresh fish and seafood, or any type of Caribbean ingredient regardless of which island you're from, I absolutely recommend this place. Chances are, you'll find exactly what you're looking for.

Not only do they have your traditional island produce/foods like scotch bonnet pepper, hard dough bread, yam, and green banana. They also have those items you need for that special meal. Fresh fish, salted cod fish, pigs tail, oxtail and even goat. They have the 'oh so coveted' rum and raisin ice cream and all the bun and cheese your heart could desire. In addition to the grocery items, they do also sell cooked food at least 5 days a week, jamaican patties, and a variety of adult beverages. On the non-food side of things Sams also sells tickets to your most anticipated Caribbean events, can top up your Digicel credit, and send Western Union to your friends and family back home. Sams West Indian is a family run business that locals have been coming to for years. Their childrens children have now followed in those footsteps - despite the larger chains that have opened nearby. Now, I'd be lying if I said it was the most esthetically pleasing store. It's a small space and can become congested. But it is just the place for those small, but important, needs. All in all, Sams is a gem and you do yourself an inustice passing it over as just another little Caribbean shop.
