The best way to describe the picturesque compound is that it feels like the town of Spectre from the movie Big Fish. It is adorable and quaint. We had arrived in the early evening and quickly put our luggage into our adorable cottage so we could make our way down to the tavern. We enjoyed many drinks and some typical bar fare along with some conversations with the locals. The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and homey. We walked back to our cottage and had a comfortable slumber. It was a great stay and I can't wait to return!

The buildings are cottages you can rent in the general store has a very good dinner and reallycool bar in the basement. We had Guinness beef stew, and a puff pastry, my kids had the shepherds pie with lamb sourced from a local farmer, and we had a peach and blackberry pie that was fantastic. Rich runs the place and is a very kind and accommodating person. He tells the history of the town, how things have been built up and what has been restored. We stayed in the Doc Story House, which is a 2 floor, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, and hot tub replete with uneven floors and stain glass windows leading up the stairs to the second story. I can't say enough good things about this place. It is a unique throwback in time and holy recommend every part of it.

The eggs and biscuits & gravy were especially good--fresh, hot, and actually flavorful, which you don't always get with hotel breakfasts. The room itself was spacious, which we appreciated, but there were a couple of comfort issues. It tended to run a bit warm, and the thermostat didn't seem to cool down to the temperature we set. The air also felt pretty dry overnight. We had an accessible (handicap) shower, and while it was easy to use, it left about half of the bathroom floor soaked after each shower. That made the floor very slick, which was a bit of a safety concern. We also liked that the hotel had a pool, which is always a nice perk, but it was pretty small. Overall, a nice stay with great amenities and breakfast, but a few room comfort and bathroom design issues that could be improved.

Small food store in the front that was very reasonably priced. Rooms were clean, bright and well appointed. Didn't use room service but it was very clean and well dressed. Breakfast setup is typical for the chain and well stocked. Attendants did a great job every day that I was there and they were always cheerful. One drawback is that the gym is very limited. There is enough to get in a workout but the cardio gear is very dated. Overall, solid experience and I recommend this location for a short or long stay.

Once we stepped into the building, Zach and Donna made us feel right at home with hugs and friendly conversation. We had mentioned in our reservation we were celebrating a birthday and to our surprise, we found birthday decorations upon arrival. We were given a tour of the home and were impressed with the cleanliness, tasteful decor, and historic preservation touches. Our room was elegant and romantic with a large bathroom. During our stay we were served gourmet breakfast made by Zach, a retired professional chef, the quality was outstanding. The balcony overlooks a serene treeline The room we stayed in had a southern exposure. The birds tweeting, the sunlight, what an amazingly peaceful wakeup! An evening sweet treat is served by Zack who was an executive chef and restaurateur before owning this historic B&B. We were surprised with wine glasses, a birthday card and sign after we returned from a show. The restaurant recommendation was spot on! The map provided by Donna, the co-owner took us directly to our location, with no need for GPS. As Zack says, "Their hospitality is a full contact sport." The cleanliness is impeccable! The fresh fruit cup at breakfast is a full meal within itself! And it's only the first course. This is exactly how enjoying a getaway should feel. I need 50+ points and that would only scratch the surface of the rave review I give Wampler and their gracious hosts Zack & Donna! I look forward to coming back soon!

We rented the castle for our wedding weekend, including overnight accommodations for our family, and while we appreciated the unique setting, he repeatedly crossed boundaries during our stay. Throughout our wedding night, Douglas frequently entered or attempted to enter our rented spaces uninvited, including coming down to our side of the castle and asking us to turn off lights to save electricity. While I can understand wanting to conserve energy, several guests returned to their rooms after leaving lights on and found them off, which was unsettling and felt like someone had been in the room. We paid a significant amount for the venue, and it's hard to imagine that the cost of electricity would come close to what we paid for the event. The situation made us and our guests feel like our privacy wasn't being fully respected during what should have been a private and personal celebration. During the rehearsal and throughout the weekend, Douglas made several comments that felt unnecessary and intrusive. During the rehearsal, he told my husband and I to "act like you like each other" because he felt we weren't standing close enough at the altar, though there were much more appropriate ways to make that suggestion. He also repeatedly remarked on my hair being down, referencing medieval customs. The frequency of these comments over the rehearsal, wedding night, and breakfast the next morning made the interactions uncomfortable. Our parents and other guests also noticed how he spoke differently to the younger adults in our group, often in a condescending tone. During the reception, Douglas and Josephine helped clear plates as guests finished eating, which we appreciated. However, a few guests witnessed Douglas taking a plate of food and a cookie from our catering as he returned to his side of the castle. We weren't upset about it, but it did feel odd since it hadn't been discussed beforehand. The venue itself is stunning, but couples considering booking should be aware that the owners remain very present and involved throughout the event. Sometimes in ways that make it difficult to fully relax and enjoy your celebration.
