Excellent food and ambiance. One of the best restaurants in Ottawa that we tried. They struck the right balance between classy and authentic Middle Eastern food. The plates are good to share between a group, so make sure to order your way through the menu so you can try different things. We were too full to try the desert menu but I'm sure it would have hit the spot too.

DO NOT ORDER pide - it came out very salty! We brought it to staff and manager's attention (Eric) and they still charged us for it. It is sad because this was my favorite place in Ottawa, it truly ruined our experience and for that reason I will not come back.

Fairouz looks like they've opened a cafe in the old The Black Thorn Cafe location. It's been a bit since I went to Fairouz but they are serving fresh baked goods. I ended up grabbing sfouf and a coffee to go. They sfouf was awesome! If I was hungrier I'd definitely grab more baked goods, there was a counter full of them. On top of that they have many of their dips and other items available for take out. They also sell fresh pita and flatbreads to go. You can also order their dining menu items to go as well. I'll have to check the expanded menu at some point but I really like this new format and the location is great for me

I absolutely love this place. The ambiance was perfect for a girls night out and the service was beyond amazing. One of the best restaurants I've been to this year. There's so much to try on their menu so we ordered a bunch of plates to share. There was more than enough food. The dishes came out too pretty to eat but it was delicious. The vegetarian kibbeh and the halloumi were probably my favourite! Must try! I highly recommend giving this place a try. You'll probably want to make a reservation. I will definitely be back to try more things on their menu.

Finally, after months and months of wanting to try this place, I have finally done it. It was so worth the wait. The ambience inside is amazing, the booths are super cozy! I love how you can hang up your coat right next to your seats. My family ordered so much. We got the Vegetarian Kibbeh, Phoenician Fries, Fried Cauliflower, Stuffed grape leaves, the Meat Platter and two desserts: Orange Cardamom Spongecake and Chocolate Halva Cookie. Truly a feast. Each dish was amazing. The stuffed grape leaves were just so good. Always a favourite. The cauliflower was new, BUT SO TASTY. The fries were 10/10. Crispy, flavourful and so fresh. The vegetarian Kibbeh was amazing too! The spices and flavours combined really made something beautiful. The meat platter was great. It came with a dish that was kind of Couscous-like. I really liked it, but my family said they could have done without. The meat was tender and spiced to perfection. If I'm being honest, I didn't like the pulled lamb too much. The Beef Kofte and Shish Tawook were FAB. The desserts were great too-- I preferred the halva cookie though because the marscapone that came with it was *chefs kiss* If you ever find yourself in the area, I would totally recommend a visit. 9/10

My husband and I had an amazing time at Fairouz. We arrived with reservations but we didn't indicate our preferred location so they reserved a table inside but they were able to accommodate when we asked if we can sit in the patio instead. There's outdoor seating in the front and the back. Although it was all good, the seared Halloumi, beef kofte and the shish Tawook were our favourites. We would go back just for those two dishes. Service was amazing and fast. Highly recommend.

This was a planned outing as this spot can get real busy over the weekend. We had made called in and booked a table. The ambiance is nice and gels well with the food. Being a scorcher of a day we decided to stay inside for dinner. After much of debate we decided on the feast platter as it had a bit of everything. A word of caution though there are no substitutions for this feast platter. The dips are very good muhamra being a standout as its unlike other versions I have had before. Nice chunks of cashews and good combo of flavor profiles. Labneh and Baba ganouh were good as well. The olives had a nice kick to them as well. Stuffed grape leaves is a dish I don't enjoy personally so I would skip commenting on these. Roz Asfar was decent as well though an overkill as there was way too much food. The meat platter that was part of this feast had pulled lamb (good and not gamey), beef kofta (OK), Shish Tawouk (decent but a bit over cooked IMO) There is a lot of food here for 3 ppl as it would feed 4 easily. Now comes the bad part we ended up sneaking in a substitute combo of sponge cake and baklava. They were below average IMO. This is a decent place to try if you enjoy the taste profile of this region. 4 Stars.

We sat upstairs. Nice quiet part of the restaurant (only open on weekends). Great music and lovely atmosphere. Service was verbose, descriptive and friendly. Lots of mentions of 'Palestine' to ensure a political statement with every morsel. But I digress. We tried almost every appetizer. Dips and pita Beets Artichokes Liver Olives. Everything was good to very good. Lots of mentions of Palestine, again. Chicken and lamb were both good. Nothing spectacular but very tasty and well prepared, if not a bit dry. Desserts were interesting. Wifey loved them and she's an expert. Expensive dinner and it was very good. Would certainly return. I would, however, put it a good notch below Damas in terms of overall experience and quality (for high end Middle Eastern Cuisine). Also find the food better at much lower priced places like Les Grillades.

I love this place! It's a nice treat for more upscale middle eastern food. The fries and manakeesh are my favourite and make a great lunch. The beef kofta is also really good. The restaurant is really nice inside and also has a nice patio. The service is always good too.

The place is three stars because: 1. Their food is really expensive for the amount they serve, I ordered a dip combo and three pitas. They were small. 2. The service is ok, but the waitress did pour me still water first and then another waitress poured me sparkling water when I was in the bathroom. Btw, it happened 3 times until I asked not to. On the other hand, the food was great and their chef is Turkish, which means that meat will be great and Halal

The Long Version: I believe I have eaten at La Casablanca before but it was many years ago before I was on Yelp. Most recently I got food from here through the Too Good to Go app. (It's an app to reduce food wastage. Restaurants sell leftover/day-old food at a discounted price on the app. The catch is it's a surprise bag so you don't know what you're going to get.) I was on my way home and was walking by the restaurant and noticed they had a surprise bag for sale on the Too Good to Go app for $9.99 and I decided to buy it. The man prepared my meal by scooping various items in the warming trays into a takeout box. I got some chicken skewers, rice, roasted potatoes, cabbage, and a vegetable stew (which consisted of carrots, potatoes, bell peppers, and broccoli). I seemed to get a few rogue chickpeas too, lol. The food was flavorful and I liked the seasonings on it. I also liked the variety and that I got to try a little bit of different items. I felt it was a satisfactory deal for $9.99. However on the app it did list that the value of the surprise bag was $29.99, which I don't feel is true, lol. For the $10 I paid, I'll rate it as 4 stars. I'd give it half that rating though had I paid $30 for a takeout box of food (mostly vegetables and rice) from warming trays, lol. The restaurant is inside the Byward Market Square building so it's kind of food court-like but each restaurant has its own seating. The vibe is very casual. The man serving me was courteous. A good place for quick casual Moroccan food. Review #233 (2025)

For us modest appetites, this is easily 3 meals - easily! We ordered 2 plates and a sandwich for 4 people and still had enough leftovers for a small breakfast the morning after. My personal favorite was the mixed shawarma plate. I love how it comes with pita made specifically for Shawarma Palace, rice, potatoes, salad, pickled veg, and the meat. We also got the mixed kabob plate which featured tender beef but the chicken kabob was just a hair bit dry. The falafel sandwich was actually very dry and I would not recommend this. We also picked up some baklava for dessert after and I liked how it was just sweet enough! You can taste the pistachios and I thought the kiss of rose water was just enough to make the bite memorable!

Happened upon this restaurant one evening. I saw a shawarma place on the north side of the street,…read moreso I prepared to turn off and go back, but here was another shawarma place. Quickly looked at Yelp and saw a fantastic number of reviews. So this place looked to be the real thing. I stepped up to the counter and ordered the beef shawarma platter to eat in. The guys just kept piling more and more on the platter. It was absolutely ridiculously huge by the time they were done. It was stacked with beef on top. As I paid, I asked for a take-out container. There was no hesitation. So obviously, this is the way they do it. I sat in the super clean dining area and started in on this massive dish. Then I saw a young family carry their plates to a table adjacent to me. And they all had these massive plates too. So after stuffing myself and hardly putting a dent in this pile of food I had to load up the take out clamshell. It would hardly close and weighed 2-3lbs (after filling myself). So if you want to buy one dish and eat a tasty healthy meal for a week. This is your place. It seemed very clean in the restaurant (signs say leave your dishes on the table - so they are obviously bussing the tables regularly). The washroom was also exceptionally clean. The staff that built my meat mountain were super friendly. I would certainly recommend this place!

It was before I was on Yelp and before I was "into" food as much as I am now, lol. This location on Rideau St is the first and currently only location in Ottawa. It's where Gabriel Pizza used to be and it opened in March 2022. I was browsing deals on UberEats and saw that Boustan was having a BOGO deal: $9.99 for a small beef or chicken shawarma sandwich. Man, I remember when $9.99 for 2 shawarma sandwiches was just the regular price, but now it's actually considered a deal. Anyway, I figured why not pick up a couple of shawarma sandwiches for my husband and I after work for dinner and we don't have to cook. So that's exactly what I did. I opted for the beef, and asked them to hold the onions. The sandwich was actually quite good. It had a decent amount of beef in it and the beef was tender and tasty and not gristly nor fatty, which I appreciated. It came with shredded cabbage, pickled turnips and tomatoes. I actually prefer the shredded cabbage here over the shredded lettuce at most other places. It keeps its crunch better and gets less soggy. There was also garlic sauce which wasn't overpowering. The pita was nicely toasted too. And the size was good, not too puny. I was impressed. Pickup was quick. It was ready when the app said it was, which was about 10-15 minutes from the time I ordered. The platter comes to roughly $18 but comes with a drink and did I mention they pack the food in? The platter comes with rice, potatoes, hummus, toum, salad (was a little bitter but I really liked it) and piled up meat. I really liked the potatoes and salad. Chicken and beef were marinated different from anything I've tried in downtown Ottawa. I liked it. Garlic sauce is not as garlicky as what we have at the Palace. Hummus was decent as well. 3.5 stars. The sauce was decent, way better than that sweet sauce from Osmow's. With Shawarma Palace a few blocks away, if you're really hard up for shawarma it's a decent option with decent portions. The flavour was good. Their spices are different than the usual shawarma joints here in Ottawa. The chicken pita and cheesy chicken pitas tasted similar with the regular chicken one having pickles in it and the cheesy one having cheese in it. Again the spices were different than at other places. I really enjoyed the different spices. It makes Mr. Fez unique. The pitas were a good size and I like how the put it on the grill to crisp it up. I would have liked some lettuce in the pitas. I'll ask next time. The garlic potatoes were good. The cubes were small, which I prefer, I don't like big pieces. They weren't mealy or starchy. They had good garlic flavour and I enjoyed the spicy garlic sauce. They also put this brown glaze sauce on the potatoes. Not sure what it was, but it tasted good. I like how staff wear fezzes. It's their thing which is kind of cool. Service was friendly and efficient. I like that they wear nitrile gloves when preparing food. There are some seats to eat in, but we got takeout and ate in the car (call me weird, but I've been eating in my car for decades and I love it. For fast food I prefer to eat in my car than at the restaurant, lol). On a subsequent visit we got the mixed shawarma sandwich (was $7.99 BOGO on UberEats) and it was fantastic! Same delicious unique spices. Thankfully, the beef was less rare this time. I love how they really grill the sandwich. I also asked for lettuce instead of onions and they accommodated :) After this second visit, I can safely say Mr. Fez is my favourite place to get shawarma in Ottawa! Street parking only.
