Decided to come enjoy their weekend brunch which is fairly a new addition to their menu. Firstly, the ambiance early morning was very calming. Though located in byward market, this restaurant is a steps away from the busy parts. The restaurant itself has an outdoor patio & 2 different dinning areas. One seems to be more vibrant in colour the other room is dark interior with mood lighting. The brunch menu was a fusion of Turkish and parts of Middle East. Here is what enjoyed: Muhamara was our favourite, the perfect blend of cashew and red peppers. Stuffed Grape leaves were alright. Lubneh with Dukkah beats was tasty. The beets added a rich flavour to the yogurt dish. Beef lahmoujoun, the mint/dill sauce it was paired with was absolutely delicious. Turkish Egg, poached eggs with labneh. It was good but eventually the flavour of yogurt was too empowering & it needed a something to balance. I ended up mixing muhamara with it. Shakshuka, this was alright. Black seed pancakes, this was a savoury item served with tabouli. This was probably the least favourite on the table. The flavour was bland. Overall, the experience was good. The service was great! We started with muhammara (A mix of cashews pomegranates and roasted peppers) I had mine on its own and on cucumber slice. It comes with 2 pita that are made at location. We had demarinated olives they are really good. The halloumi was served with watermelon (cooked) and a whipped honey (creme). The watermelon had an interesting texture (less water but all the sugar taste). My favourite of the night has to be the fried cauliflower. Covered in tahini and pomegranates, the mix flavours and textures was perfect. For the main we ordered; The curcuma rice was serve with yoghurt on top & shish taouk. The shish taouk came with tomatoes, garlic sauce, peppers & (shishito) I believe that is the name of the little round balls. The two of us had a lot of left overs. This was my late birthday dinner. The staff was so sweet the brought us 2 dates and wish me a happy birthday. I believe it was fig jam inside. Good combination! I love that some item on the menu change with the season. read more

This has been on my list for too long. Finally made it. To sum it up: we'll be back. Decor is simple and deceivingly low key eclectic with Moroccan motif floor tiles, Victorian fireplace, exposed brick and post and faux beam type walls, modern light fixtures and a fairly neutral but overall dark and calm colour palette. Our waitress was fabulous - attentive, without hovering, and able to answer all questions and provide recommendations. We went with the lamb dish and some add ons. Everything was perfectly cooked and displayed with beautiful flavour and colour combinations that flirted with my eyes and tastebuds. Hubs and I agreed this was our best meal out in a long time. I finished off with a decaf Cardomom coffee, the perfect end to a perfect meal. Yum. read more

If you've never had Mediterranean food, perhaps you would find this place adequate. It is not. If I could leave zero stars, I would. Service was very slow, which we would overlook due to the number of parties arriving at once, if the food were passable. The food was decidedly bad. I have never sent a dish back in my life (unless it was not what I ordered) but the halloumi tasted like it was deep fried in dirty oil and then covered in sugar. It wasn't just that it wasn't for me, it was not prepared properly. The fattoush was a large bowl of romaine lettuce with improperly fried pita chips on top, for $20. The fried Brussels seemed good at first until you got to the bites that had waaaay too much salt. The pide was almost as good as the worst mall pizza. The labneh was the bright spot but the second round of pita were not fully cooked. Things would have been overpriced if done well. Definitely do NOT recommend. read more

Fairouz looks like they've opened a cafe in the old The Black Thorn Cafe location. It's been a bit since I went to Fairouz but they are serving fresh baked goods. I ended up grabbing sfouf and a coffee to go. They sfouf was awesome! If I was hungrier I'd definitely grab more baked goods, there was a counter full of them. On top of that they have many of their dips and other items available for take out. They also sell fresh pita and flatbreads to go. You can also order their dining menu items to go as well. I'll have to check the expanded menu at some point but I really like this new format and the location is great for me read more

I absolutely love this place. The ambiance was perfect for a girls night out and the service was beyond amazing. One of the best restaurants I've been to this year. There's so much to try on their menu so we ordered a bunch of plates to share. There was more than enough food. The dishes came out too pretty to eat but it was delicious. The vegetarian kibbeh and the halloumi were probably my favourite! Must try! I highly recommend giving this place a try. You'll probably want to make a reservation. Finally, after months and months of wanting to try this place, I have finally done it. It was so worth the wait. The ambience inside is amazing, the booths are super cozy! I love how you can hang up your coat right next to your seats. My family ordered so much. We got the Vegetarian Kibbeh, Phoenician Fries, Fried Cauliflower, Stuffed grape leaves, the Meat Platter and two desserts: Orange Cardamom Spongecake and Chocolate Halva Cookie. Truly a feast. Each dish was amazing. The stuffed grape leaves were just so good. Always a favourite. The cauliflower was new, BUT SO TASTY. The fries were 10/10. Crispy, flavourful and so fresh. The vegetarian Kibbeh was amazing too! The spices and flavours combined really made something beautiful. The meat platter was great. It came with a dish that was kind of Couscous-like. I really liked it, but my family said they could have done without. The meat was tender and spiced to perfection. If I'm being honest, I didn't like the pulled lamb too much. The Beef Kofte and Shish Tawook were FAB. The desserts were great too-- I preferred the halva cookie though because the marscapone that came with it was *chefs kiss* If you ever find yourself in the area, I would totally recommend a visit. 9/10 read more

I've been here twice now and had two wildly different experiences. The first time I went I was lucky enough to have an amazing server who did everything he could to make our experience and dinning experience one to remember. With that in mind we wanted to come back again with some friends however the waitress we got was not welcoming, and it would take forever to get anything we requested (extra hot sauce, napkins, the bill etc) The food was delicious each time we went, however if there are specific items you like on the menu be prepared to not see half of them on the lunch menu as its very restricted. The interior is gorgeous, however the tables are extremely small and very uncomfortable to sit if you're a large group or even if you're ordering many items. Make reservations before you go especially on a weekend because it does fill up quick! read more

My husband and I had an amazing time at Fairouz. We arrived with reservations but we didn't indicate our preferred location so they reserved a table inside but they were able to accommodate when we asked if we can sit in the patio instead. There's outdoor seating in the front and the back. Although it was all good, the seared Halloumi, beef kofte and the shish Tawook were our favourites. We would go back just for those two dishes. This was a planned outing as this spot can get real busy over the weekend. We had made called in and booked a table. The ambiance is nice and gels well with the food. Being a scorcher of a day we decided to stay inside for dinner. After much of debate we decided on the feast platter as it had a bit of everything. A word of caution though there are no substitutions for this feast platter. The dips are very good muhamra being a standout as its unlike other versions I have had before. Nice chunks of cashews and good combo of flavor profiles. Labneh and Baba ganouh were good as well. The olives had a nice kick to them as well. Stuffed grape leaves is a dish I don't enjoy personally so I would skip commenting on these. Roz Asfar was decent as well though an overkill as there was way too much food. The meat platter that was part of this feast had pulled lamb (good and not gamey), beef kofta (OK), Shish Tawouk (decent but a bit over cooked IMO) There is a lot of food here for 3 ppl as it would feed 4 easily. Now comes the bad part we ended up sneaking in a substitute combo of sponge cake and baklava. They were below average IMO. This is a decent place to try if you enjoy the taste profile of this region. 4 Stars. read more

We sat upstairs. Nice quiet part of the restaurant (only open on weekends). Great music and lovely atmosphere. Service was verbose, descriptive and friendly. Lots of mentions of 'Palestine' to ensure a political statement with every morsel. But I digress. We tried almost every appetizer. Dips and pita Beets Artichokes Liver Olives. Everything was good to very good. Lots of mentions of Palestine, again. Chicken and lamb were both good. Nothing spectacular but very tasty and well prepared, if not a bit dry. Desserts were interesting. Wifey loved them and she's an expert. Expensive dinner and it was very good. Would certainly return. I would, however, put it a good notch below Damas in terms of overall experience and quality (for high end Middle Eastern Cuisine). This is one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in years. Everything we ate here was delicious and interesting, the service was friendly and knowledgeable, the drinks were yummy and the dining room was lovely. The dinner we ate there was so good that we did something that we have never done in 25+ years of eating out together: we went back the next day for lunch. We love trying new restaurants, and usually try to eat out a new place for every meal when we are vacation. Ottawa has many good restaurants that we either like or want to try. But after eating at Fairouz, we couldn't stop talking about the food, so we went back less than 24 hours later... and we were so glad we did. I hold recommend literally everything we ate: Phoenician fries, beef kibbe , fattoush salad, labneh, baba ganoush, grilled halloumi, lamb flatbread, and (my favorite) the fried cauliflower. This was the first time since the pandemic that the whole family went out for dinner at a restaurant and my daughter suggested this place. I was excited because I love the cuisine and they are very highly rated. We sort of all go to our table at different times but once everyone was at the table we were able to order. The pitas with humus and their pulled lamb was pretty good but I found the portions on the small side for the price we paid and at no point was I "wowed" by the food. Overall the food was alright but it was the service that was the most off--putting. Service was slow, uncoordinated, we were never really sure who our server was and the one who actually was our server had a habit of making some very awkward and cringey comments.... more than once she said something awkward and my kids, wife and I literally were silent. In the car my kids raised the comments and I agreed with them. Not cool, especially considering my wife and I were at the Moxie's on Innes Road and the service and food were both superb. It might have been a bad day for our server, but given the portion sizes and the price, I will not be returning anytime soon. read more

Fairouz offers a fusion of middle eastern foods and their menu never stays the same (a blessing and a curse for someone who loves their meat platters). The last time we went, we had the zaatar seasoned lamb but my far, the most unique dish was the fried hummus and "fool." "Fool" are fava beans but uniquely presented and seasoned! A group of us went to Fairouz as a work dinner and we absolutely loved it, that's if you have a palate for Middle Eastern food. We had a set menu, and they were very easily able to accommodate any dietary restrictions. We started off with an assortment of appetizers; warm olives, 2 house dips, halloumi, fava bean and hummus crunch; everything was so well done. Then came the mains! Zatar crusted Lamb with aged beets, sumac glazed chicken and grilled fish. With a very flavourful and nicely plated vegetarian dish for me! They had lentils, rice, eggplant stuffed in collard greens with mushrooms and nice sauce and little berries! So pretty! Having a sweet tooth I had to try the desserts! The pita was warm and fresh and the labneh was light. Thereafter, the meal went downhill. We had the seasonal haloumi which came with coconut cake and some strange gummy bear thing. I was super excited to try this place since it was on the list of best restaurants in Canada. I came after work on a weekday, right after dinner hours started, and got a seat inside as it was windy (but they also have a great patio)! What I tried: - Monforte halloumi: I think I meant to get the dessert version, as this one was not as "Instagram-worthy". However, it was deliciously dense, and I really enjoyed the cheesiness. - Salmon Pastourma (anchoby, olive, aioli): Mmm...if you love smokey flavours, get this! Smoked salmon is one of my favourite food groups (along with oysters and cheese), so I had to get this. However, the portion was pretty small...4-5 small thin slices of salmon. But they were SO GOOD. - Batirik Bulgar Kofte (lahana, tahini): An interesting appetizer, with hand-formed patties of ground beans on top of lettuce. Flavours were very interesting, and quite salty; but being a vegetarian dish, did not really wow me. I enjoyed the other two appetizers I chose a lot more! - Ghormeh Sabzi Lamb Sirloin (leek, peas, yogurt): WOW. GET THIS. Seriously. If I could have re-allocated my $$$ for this meal, I would of literally JUST gotten 2-3 plates of this. The lamb ACTUALLY melted in your mouth, and each bite was tender, and not fatty at all. I would probably pass out if they somehow added some crispy oily bits from the lamb fat that they must have cut off. The accompagniments were not too strong-tasting, and added to the dish. Amazing!!! - Barberry Rice (almonds, cardamom, cinnamon, onions): if you like sour things, get this! But for me, I'm not really a fan of sour, and found it really overpowering, I think, due to the cranberries. If only there were more savoury flavours, this would be a lot better. But seriously, $12 for a bowl of rice? A bit too expensive, given that it was over the top sour. Service: was very polite and friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. I asked the server where the glassware was from, as I liked how light and thin it was (however, it didn't make any clinking noises so it felt like lighter plastic), and he asked for me. I also asked where the lamb was purchased from because it was INSANELY tender, but that could not be disclosed (understandably, as I might just start my own food truck with super tender lamb and make a killer profit, haha)! Atmosphere: perfect level of noise, not too quiet, and not too loud. Music was contemporary and upbeat. The décor really added to the experience because it was very modern and clean. The washroom was also decorated nicely; the washbasin looked like it was stained glass! Little details really do make the overall dining experience more enjoyable. Would I come back again? Not in a rush, due to the price/value ratio, but certainly for specific dishes such as that amazing lamb. Amazing food! The back patio is so cute, especially at night with the lights in the alleyway. The dip trio is a must. The baba ghanouj has an amazing smoky flavour, one of the bests I've ever tried. The meat platter is also great for sharing and the quantity and quality was amazing. All of the meats were so juicy and flavourful with every bite. Our server was also very attentive and personable and definitely elevated our experience here. Fairouz is trying to be creative with Mediterranean tastes. But often both the "Mediterranean" part and the "creative" part fail. I enjoyed the dips, but the salmon dish and the chicken were lower boundary average, especially for the price you are paying. The waiters are attentive, but they treat you like a child who was raised by wolves in deep woods and has never tasted basic foods before. I ordered the dip trio (to share of course) and shisha tawook, my date had the eggplant mashi... the hummus is the best I've ever had, the labneh was great and the muhammara dip was incredibly flavourful. They were beautifully plated and went together nicely. My only complaint is that they don't give you enough pita bread!!! I heard they make the bread (and rice) to order, which is very impressive. The shisha tawook was a masterpiece, spiced, seasoned, presented and cooked perfectly. The chicken was so tender it fell apart with ease, the peppers and tomatoes were nicely charred and offered spicy sweetness to the dish that was balanced perfectly by everything else. I was so fixated on this plate that I didn't try the eggplant mashi, but my date (who doesn't normally like eggplants) had devoured it before I had a chance to anyway. The entire experience, from the food and service and ambience, was far above and beyond most restaurants I've ever been to. Very good food, service was great! I would say I enjoy middle eastern food but it's not the default meal I go for. However, the combination of really interesting menu options, a unique wine selection (ordered a white wine from Jordan), excellent service and great location (we sat at the back patio which opens to a quiet courtyard) really made this place shine. Mr. H is always on the look out for restaurants that are on "lists" of some sort and this was one of them. As soon as we arrived and I was in awe of the location which is a house converted into a restaurant and it's ambience. It's a small plates kind of place and hence we ended up trying almost everything on the menu. Muhammara, pita plate, salmon, halloumi, sabanekh, artichoke and the lamb dishes were all amazing! I must say I enjoyed the vegetarian fare a lot more than the meaty dishes. What took the cake was the dessert, the rose water muhallabieh. It had a honey water mousse with a rose water jam.
