This park is a really nice size, lots of apparatuses for agility training. Overall while the park was filled with owners and dogs, did not seem as openly friendly, and more dogs then I have seen at other parks, a bit more aggressive with owners not paying attention. Maybe it was just today. Our neighbor has gone to this park and she commented on amount of dog waste not getting picked up. Today was very clean. So could just be what shows up, is what you get.

For me it is nice because it is close to home but can still give a taste of nature when i dont have time to make it all the way to the mountains for a hike. This is one of my pups favorite spots. The one time they got away from home, this is where they came. There are dog poop bags at the trail head. There are also trash cans, and a recycling can and bathroom at the parking lot. Just like every other trail head in northern colorado, there is a chance of a thief breaking into your car. please dont leave anything valuable in your car. Dont hide it and think they wont find it because they can. It just takes the wrong person being there at the right time. Please please take all valuables with you. I have started leaving my car unlocked at the trail head and taking my car registration with me when i am out. So far it is working from having my door lock busted into over and over...... This natural area has multiple ways you can loop around. We generally end up walking around 2 miles here. There are many trees and weeds, however the trail is clear. It is supposed to be a leashed trail, however sometimes people will come and break the rules... hopefully that is not you ;) If you only have time for a walk and you are in town, i do recommend coming by here. take a few breaths and escape from all the craziness of busy life.

We also walk in the grass if fields are empty and play fetch on long lines. There is plenty to do here for non-dog people and the area stays active. We've seen bikers, running groups, bootcamp exercise groups, ultimate frisbee, a walking event, small kiddo playgrounds, and skaters at the skate park. There are soccer fields and baseball fields. There are multiple areas to park and several covered picnic tables spread out. I did see a couple of port-a-potties as well. Maintenance is always out early morning cleaning up but please remember to throw all your trash in available cans. I've seen a mess a time or two. The only downside is we have seen some people setting up camp in trees so we I suggest to be careful in some areas.

There's a tree that is so big that it partially obscures the view of the tower itself if you're standing in front of the torii gate. The tower looks like a traditional Japanese Temple. It was built in 1973. It has 5 stories with each representing the attributes of compassion which are Love, Empathy, Understanding, Gratitude of all Things, and Giving Selflessly of Oneself. You can't enter the Pagoda. Not sure if there's even anything to see, but it might be cool to just look inside! Cool Fact: Longmont City Council has designated this Tower Of Compassion a Local Historical Landmark. In the area in front of the Tower is the Kanemoto Memorial Cherry Tree Grove, where there's a good number of Cherry Trees. I don't think these cherries are edible. This 7-acre park was donated to Longmont by the Kanemoto family in 1966. Side note: This family also gifted 10 more acres of land for other facilities like a Fire Station, Buddhist temple, Episcopal Church, Elementary School and the St. Vrain Greenway. Besides the Tower Of Compassion, this park has a nice playground, activity pool, basketball court, soccer/playing Fields, sand volleyball, & adult exercise equipment. On the cement path leading to the Pool & Tower of Compassion, and just outside of the restrooms, there's a large Dragonfly metal decoration. I love dragonflies, so it was a nice sight! The Left Hand Creek runs alongside this part of the path. It only takes a few minutes to walk to this tower. It's worth a visit if you're in the area. However, I made it a point to stop by on my way to another destination while visiting the area.

This review is based on my quick stop back in April, which was likely their off season, but there was no one around-and it looked like a ghost town. There's the namesake underground missile silo site at this same location, which is what initially caught my attention, however, this part of the park was gated off and closed to the public. There were still ominous signs and relics posted about from the Cold War era warning would be trespassers of Deadly Force Use Authorization and attack dogs on patrol. Although, I don't imagine there's anyone around nowadays to shoot on sight any trespassers, suspected Soviet spies or other violators-I wasn't about to test this premise. I was told there are guided tours available at certain times of the year-so I'll try to find out when those are offered and I'll post a follow up the next time I revisit this part of Colorado. As for the R.V. park, the sites looked okay, but nonetheless were very Spartan. Most or all are gravel, not exactly well maintained, in my opinion and there were very few trees or little shade. The location is on a sort of promontory that gives a command view of the surrounding area and landscape. So, maybe this is intentional so as not to obscure views of the surrounding area. If I had had more time, I would have liked to check out some of the hiking trails that were posted. There were several picnic tables about the area as well as some portapot lavatories. So this might make a great place for a family day picnic and hiking or bike riding adventure. Additionally, there is a RV grey/black dumpsite with water hydrant for wash down or refilling water tanks (I'm not sure if the water was potable though, so perhaps check other reviews before assuming). I suppose they go by a honor system because there was a cash drop box adjacent to the septic dump. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to do a thorough check out of this location and its amenities, but I'll leave that for other Yelpers, or a future visit when time is more permitting.
