This park has something to offer for pretty much everyone - I uploaded quite a few pictures, so you can see for yourself. There is a long, paved walking/biking trail, which I completed last Monday. Upon arriving in the park, I took a right at the first intersection and drove as far south as I could. I parked, and walked all the way up to the north connection to Loveland open space. It's an easy walk that will take you past several fishing beaches, the marina, and their large swimming beach. Swim Beach was a good size, and had fun additions like a volleyball net. A bit up the road you'll also find a nice sized playground for the kids. One nice thing about this "trail" is that you'll find bathrooms pretty frequently. I never stopped in, so I can't vouch for cleanliness, but it's a nice thing to see when you're on a decently long walk. The park is fantastic for bikers, and you don't have to start or stop within its boundaries. As I mentioned, the park's trail is part of Loveland's extensive trail system - so you can get a nice, long ride in. I'd definitely recommend this park for bikers, walkers, and anyone looking to get in better shape by building up stamina on longer, easier walks. Enjoy!

This park is well known for its lake. It's a great place to camp. The price is right, close to many businesses and other things to do. Quiet and peaceful. Beautiful view of the mountains in the back. We are not here for the lake but the doggo did enjoy a swim until he got scared by the fish jumping out of the water .

Stayed at Boyd Lake State Park for 2 nights. Campsites are pull through and level. Fire ring and picnic table are provided at each spot. Must buy firewood locally to bring in. Sites are electric only. There are 2 water spigots on each row and are there for you to fill up your rigs. Dump stations are available on site. Beautiful views of the lake and mountains, and the park is very busy. Everyone was quiet and respectful. Showers and restrooms are on site, but you have to pay for the shower $1 for 4 minutes.

The swim beach is a great experience. Family environment, plenty of space, and many activities to do from rentals, sand/mud, snack shack, playground, and the typical beach activities. The beach is clean of trash*, however, I give this a 3-star because it is hard to not overlook the dirty water and sand. The shore is covered in bird poop, and my time there was a typical day. I would not be surprised if the murky water and "clay-like" mud on the shore is infested with the poop over years and years. There's feathers abundantly everywhere too. I'm a pretty dirty and open guy, but it is hard to enjoy normal activities and not be paranoid or be thinking about what you're stepping on or swimming in. If you're cool with this ^ (like my family), you can really enjoy a good day here just like any lake/beach.

Lots to do here, but very little shade and lots of snakes. Large campground but few toilets, long walk to facilities from most camp sites

Ask the Community - Boyd Lake State Park

How many tents are you allowed per campsite and can a person in your group check in if you can't make it by the check in time as long as they buy an extra parking pass?

You are allowed 2 camping units per site. If you have an RV or a trailer then you would be allowed 1 tent. If you just have tents it would be 2 tents allowed. Yes they can check in as long as they know what name the reservation is under.

What's the cost a night...and is there tent sites?

It is $36 per night for camping and then an additional $9 per vehicle that enters the park. All of our sites will accommodate tents and they all have electricity.

What time is checkin for campsites?

Check in is at 12pm.

Just had my second visit to Horsetooth! The first time following all of the spring rains mid June I…read morewas impressed by how much the landscape resembled part of Oregon I traveled through on a road trip (Lowell) This last time over Labor Day weekend however, with the water levels lower by a hundred feet, for a moment it occurred to me they decided to put a more traditional "beach" area there. The water had been up to the rocks near the parking area at the South Bay swim area. In the late summer, it had more of the expected high desert vibe. It's nice that they have a no-wake area for paddle boarders and swimmers. Although it is a reservoir, the ugly wall is not a prominent visual feature like ie: Cherry Creek reservoir. I enjoy how this one is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains. Next time, I am absolutely bringing a paddle board. This time however, I was amused and inspired by one man who was not immediately deterred by the fact that he fell off his again and again. When he finally gave up, he had the same problem with his inner tube. The bathrooms/showers were not disgusting but I wasn't so sure how sanitary those children's diapers were in the water. .

Tons of options for hiking. My only gripe is the paid parking, but that seems typical for the…read morearea. Trails around the reservoir were fun and varied from rocky beaches, to steep grades, to rocks you could boulder or climb. The trails were well kept and they were not crowded. I'll have to check it out on a warmer day. There were a few people doing photo shoots while we were there also.
