This campground, essentially right next to Loveland, is a gem. It's clean, well maintained and fairly spacious. It's a big place, but right next to the lake and hiking trails. Unfortunately, it was cold and rainy while we were there, so didn't get much of a chance to explore. read more

Boyd Lake State Park - Parks Near Me - Loveland, Colorado

First, this state park is close and inexpensive if you pay for the state park pass with your car registration. Popular for boating, there is a section at the north end of the lake that's a no-wake zone perfect for paddle boarding. There's times my husband & I came to paddleboard, it wasn't too crowded. Pros: ease of access, great views of mountains while you paddle, low cost, peaceful at north end. If you're looking for a fun Sunday adventure, this is the spot! My kids and I enjoyed paddle boarding and kayaking. Just as we settled in, two visitors got into a heated argument and the park ranger swooped in like a superhero, calling for backup! Between paddling and the unexpected drama, we had a blast. We stayed in the Cottonwood Campground. Sites are quite close together with only electric hookup. Spigots for water spaced out on each loop. Fairly mature trees for shade if you are lucky enough to get a site with one. Overall, we really didn't feel that the experience was worth $36 a night. but RV parks are scarce in this part of Colorado. read more

We visited the lake on a Tuesday so the place was very quiet. There's plenty of parking and access to the beach is close. The first thing we noticed when we pulled up in the parking lot for the beach was how much trash was around. Every dumpster was full and trash was all over the place. You'd think trash pick up would be a Monday right after busy summer weekends so that the dumpsters could be emptied but that does not appear to be the case. The amount of trash was horrible. Once we walked over to the beach, we were disgusted with the amount of trash left on the beach and the amount of bird poop. You can see bird tracks all over the sand and bird poop everywhere. It's even along the shore line. There is no way you could lay a blanket out without being on bird poop. You can't walk in the sand without walking on bird poop. Its gross. Surprisingly, the bathrooms were very clean though. Given the amount of trash and bird poop, I highly doubt we will go back or recommend this lake to anyone. read more

I visited the beach area. Minuses: no lifeguards to protect you, lots of goose poop, designated swim area is not big enough, water fountain at men's room doesn't work, 2 of 4 urinals covered in trash bags. Pluses: no lifeguards to annoy you, spacious changing area in bathroom, concessions, kayak rental available, kid's playground and beach volleyball available and the sandy area is big enough that I would say it can legally be called a "beach." read more

This park has something to offer for pretty much everyone - I uploaded quite a few pictures, so you can see for yourself. There is a long, paved walking/biking trail, which I completed last Monday. Upon arriving in the park, I took a right at the first intersection and drove as far south as I could. I parked, and walked all the way up to the north connection to Loveland open space. It's an easy walk that will take you past several fishing beaches, the marina, and their large swimming beach. Swim Beach was a good size, and had fun additions like a volleyball net. A bit up the road you'll also find a nice sized playground for the kids. One nice thing about this "trail" is that you'll find bathrooms pretty frequently. I never stopped in, so I can't vouch for cleanliness, but it's a nice thing to see when you're on a decently long walk. The park is fantastic for bikers, and you don't have to start or stop within its boundaries. As I mentioned, the park's trail is part of Loveland's extensive trail system - so you can get a nice, long ride in. I'd definitely recommend this park for bikers, walkers, and anyone looking to get in better shape by building up stamina on longer, easier walks. Enjoy! read more

This park is well known for its lake. It's a great place to camp. The price is right, close to many businesses and other things to do. Quiet and peaceful. Beautiful view of the mountains in the back. We are not here for the lake but the doggo did enjoy a swim until he got scared by the fish jumping out of the water . read more

Stayed at Boyd Lake State Park for 2 nights. Campsites are pull through and level. Fire ring and picnic table are provided at each spot. Must buy firewood locally to bring in. Sites are electric only. There are 2 water spigots on each row and are there for you to fill up your rigs. Dump stations are available on site. Beautiful views of the lake and mountains, and the park is very busy. Everyone was quiet and respectful. Showers and restrooms are on site, but you have to pay for the shower $1 for 4 minutes. read more

Nice clean campground. Forced to stay here since there are no vacancies at actual RV parks. Way too expensive for the monthly traveler. $20 camping fee isn't horrible, but they charge $8/day pass fee for each vehicle. That's outrageous!! I'm literally sitting in my kayak at Boyd lake 06/05/2022 where the park boat rangers just tried to capsize me in a no wake zone. They should be trained better. It was so bad that the boats around me had to ask if I was okay but the park rangers just sped off. Here for our safety or our pain. Who knows. Here they come again at full speed with no regard to the people in the lake. Disgusting. read more

The swim beach is a great experience. Family environment, plenty of space, and many activities to do from rentals, sand/mud, snack shack, playground, and the typical beach activities. The beach is clean of trash*, however, I give this a 3-star because it is hard to not overlook the dirty water and sand. The shore is covered in bird poop, and my time there was a typical day. I would not be surprised if the murky water and "clay-like" mud on the shore is infested with the poop over years and years. There's feathers abundantly everywhere too. I'm a pretty dirty and open guy, but it is hard to enjoy normal activities and not be paranoid or be thinking about what you're stepping on or swimming in. If you're cool with this ^ (like my family), you can really enjoy a good day here just like any lake/beach. read more

I was actually kind of surprised by how clean this park was given the amount of people that come here, but to me anyways the actual grounds, parking lot, pavilion, and concession area was very clean of trash and debris. Parking is easy and getting to the beach is easy if you are up for a 200 yard walk, so be prepared for that if you have a lot of gear like tents and kids toys. The grassed area in front of the beach is also very well maintained with several large trees for good shade coverage and pretty large open spaces if you have a larger event. The beach and water itself I found to be mostly clean of anything really dangerous like bottles and cans, but its hard to overlook the extensive infestation of seagulls which numbered well over 100. Which also means the beach and water is littered heavily in feathers and bird feces, which can be dangerous if ingested. That only leads me to assume its also soaked into the sand nearby. Water can only filter it so much. The birds tend to congregate in a specific area, so easy to set up away from their area to avoid such problems. The bathrooms and concession area are also pretty nice and clean with a decent menu to choose from for food and drinks with ample place to sit down. Next door is a nice playground to occupy kids while parents can use the bathroom and relax with concessions. Overall for only $8 for the whole day this to me is a pretty good park to visit for water activities and relaxing on a beach or under a nice tree. read more

Obviously you will probably get more out of Boyd Lake if you bring your boat and hit the lake with it. There are nice beaches along the lake and probably best suited to go to during the weekday. That was when I was there. The beaches were totally dead and you could spend a very nice afternoon playing in the lake and sand without much disturbance. My mode of travel was by bicycle and Boyd Lake has awesome bike paths where you can bike all over on the west side of the lake. The east side shore of the lake seems to be for the private residences there. I kept on moving and did not linger long at Boyd Lake. If you do plan to stay there for a while, best play by the rules and pay the park entrance fee. read more

I find staff to be friendly, helpful, and eager to ensure the safety of the Park patrons. This public campground situated within a natural area, and it is surrounded by small lakes and affluent residential neighborhoods. We stayed here over Labor Day weekend 2013, and fellow campers courteous and respectful of others. Campground rules are strictly enforced. This RV campground offers convenient access to shopping, restaurants, fuel, flee-markets and antique stores in both Loveland and Fort Collins, Colorado. The campground is 10-minutes away from the south-side of Fort Collins, which is known for its microbreweries, Colorado State University, bicycle events, and its unique Historic Downtown. The campground is close to McKee Medical Center, Medical Center of the Rockies, the Fort Collins Harmony Campus of Poudre Valley Hospital. It is a one-hour drive to Denver International Airport or downtown Denver. Boyd Lake is a one-hour road trip on US Highway 34 to Estes Park Colorado, which is the eastern entrance into Rocky Mountain National Park. Boyd Lake is more convenient to Loveland, south Fort Collins, Rocky Mountain National Park and Denver International Airport than campgrounds north of Fort Collins. Many campground sites have shade trees and views of Boyd Lake to the east or the front-range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains to the west. Boyd Lake has a swim beach, beach house, boat ramps, and a variety of opportunities for fishing and boating. Boyd Lake campground has modern bathhouses with showers, playgrounds and a small laundry, all of which are well maintained. There are paved bicycle and hiking trails that link into the extensive paved trail system that covers all of Fort Collins, including connections to mountain-bike trails on public lands in foothills. 50-amp power is reliable. Potable water is from an excellent municipal source, with numerous hydrants located throughout the campground; almost no sites have sewer or potable water hookups. All sites are paved pull-throughs in the 40-foot to 60-foot range. Our 40-foot site adequately accommodated our 40-foot motorhome plus our Jeep Wrangler. However, travelers with larger motorhomes should select the larger sites. All internal campground roads are paved. Verizon voice coverage is a little on the weak-side but adequate. There is no campground Wi-Fi, but our Verizon MiFi connection to the internet was strong. The campground is open all year, and it is popular with local families on summer weekends. read more

This is the kind of camping that is great for small children, that's why we come here. Mountain camping with little ones can be rough, and boring for them. This place has a swim beach that the kids really love, it's shallow enough for them to wade out in and still be safe. It has a sandy area where they can build stuff and play. There is also beach volley ball and a really cool park, picnic tables and bathrooms with showers. The camping spaces are all surrounded by pavement which is really nice for younger kids because they can ride bikes all around the whole camp! My kids' love riding all around in circles, they do it all day while we sit and camp and watch them go around and around. There is a city 5 minutes away so that you can run to the store to get anything that you need. There are fire pits, so that you can do s'mores. Public restrooms with showers ($) and really cool events put on by the state. We don't fish, or boat, or anything, we just camp here because it is super kid friendly. read more

I call Boyd Lake Lighting Lake because people get struck there all the time! I can't make up stuff this good. Once 9 people were struck by lighting there (http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/4680712/detail.html?subid=22100484&qs=1;bp=t) . So be aware of the weather if you go. Outside of possibly be assaulted by GOD for every sin you have ever committed this place is pretty cool. The lake is large and people sail and boat around it , there are some nice beaches to lounge on, a concession stand, play ground for kids too small to swim and a really nice bike trail. If you head south on the bike trail it winds from Boyd Lake (bikers enter free) under HWY 34 pass the old sugar mill on into downtown Loveland. There isn't too much to do here if you are alone other than swim and take in the views. Unfortunately the views of the eastern shore are polluted with huge homes in some areas. Oh I forgot fishing. I don't fish but it is supposed to be good here. read more

This is a nice urban area state park. It is on the front range, so it is pretty flat with not a lot of trees. The lake is perfectly suited for boating and swimming. The campground is flat with paved spots and some pull through spots. There are electrical hookups. This would be a good park for a day trip or camping close to civilization. I only give three stars as it is a fairly bland park, but perfectly fine in cleanliness and park facilities. I just prefer a more serene and wooded park. This park can be pretty crowded during peak times. It is a family friendly location. read more

Not one person in line at guard shack. I was not holding anyone or anything up. I went ahead and moved on after the threat of being sited with a fine and when we got up to the check in shack. The young girl was so rude and not a bit helpful. My in laws said the exact same thing about the girl at guard shack. The sites are ok. But would definitely not stay here again. read more

This is a nice Park with lots of big shade trees to set up under. We came with our grandchildren to paddleboard and kayak and they had a lot of fun. The rentals are $10 an hour or $45 for all day. The previous post mentioned dog poop on the beach. This is incorrect. It is from the Canadian geese and is all over. I would consider that the only negative. read more

Meh. If you are into boating, annoying people with your jet ski, or loving low water and a desolate landscape, then this is your park. When you're out on the boat, you don't really notice, but outside of that, it's not really worth my time. Lory State Park is SO much better (as is Horsetooth for boating). read more

We cane here to camp last minute while on a road trip passing through. There are plenty of campsites! There's a convienent pay station that accepted credit cards at the entrance. $8 per vehicle, $24 per campsite. Our tent site had electricity which was awesome, and our neighbor was even charging his Tesla. There are showers in the bathrooms, .25/ minute and there is a change machine for dollar bills in bathroom. Great spot overall. read more

Must note: Park ranger I encountered, I have no problems with, Boyd Lake, no problems, Reserve America.... "middle finger".... I had no problems at first, but Monday morning at 6:50a.m., i was hit in my truck by one of Denver's fantastic drivers, whom fell asleep at the wheel after partying all night. Knowing that my 14 day stay was up in 4 days, I searched the internet and called around looking for a rental truck to relocate my rig while my mine was in the shop. To no avail, I called Reserve America and explained my situation, they said, call the park im staying in and ask them if its OK. (since they are a separate entity). I called the park, and reached a person. After explaining my scenario again, they said, "I don't see a problem with it, as long as the space was available." I searched, and my same space was available. (I wanted my same space, since i wasnt having luck finding a truck to relocate my rig, since my truck was estimated 2-4 weeks to repair). So i tried to re-book, but wasn't going in. I ended up having to create another account with my other email. "Same password, picked same spot, used same First, Last name, etc" So by doing this, i was able to keep my rig in same location another 5-6 days, then that would allow me time to keep searching for rental, or pay a friendly camper to move my rig, while on their vacation time with there family. Here it is Thursday morning, I was contacted by Enterprise (whom told me that they "did not have gooseneck setups in their trucks" when I first called them Monday), and suprisingly, this Girl was able to direct me to a location which HAD A GOOSENECK setup! Only thing was, i had to return it within one day, and stay under 200miles since it was rented to me with service due on it. I was happy to just get the truck so i can empty my tanks at this point... I grabbed the truck, headed up to the park, and was getting my rig ready to empty tanks, when i was greeted by the ranger. He addressed to me, that reserve america had an issue with my multiple bookings. I replied with my situation, even my calls to the park. He indicated, that it is "HE", whom i spoke with.... As I provided my dumbfounded look on my face, he described to me, that Reserve America wanted to express removal from premises. As he acknowledged that we did in fact have a conversation prior, he said he would give Reserve America a call the next day (Check out for my first reservation), and he suggested i do the same. He stated that he understood my situation, being wrecked and no truck to move my rig, but Reserve America doesn't see it like that. They see it like i was trying to modify my accounts so i could sneak in for another 14 days and they were pretty upset about that. Even though, i had called them prior, rebooked in the SAME spot, SAME name, and using SAME password, They thought i was trying to pull a fast one on them.... I thanked the ranger for telling me he would attempt a call in the morning, and I had planned to do the same. When i woke up, i was aware of my time sensitive situation with "possibly needing to relocate", Picking a new area to park my rig, then having time to return the truck to Enterprise in Denver. At this point, I realized, I have these last few hours to just relocate my rig with this rental, and ended up finding a spot that i could park for at least a month straight, without needing to move after i dropped off rental. Beyond the frustrations i have encountered, I have always asked myself, "which ones do i deserve?". I have been screwed over many times in my life, so i have learned to back up my inquiries by asking same question multiple times to same party. When i am told, "Call the park to see if they have a problem with it", and "it should be fine as long as the space is available", I believe it is OK to re-book. I have no big issue ever staying away from ever giving these heartless fucks, Reserve America, my money ever again. I probably could of received a letter from these people saying "it is OK", and they would of still sent the ranger to remove me and said, "oh well! your the sucker for believing us!" When you got some jack-hole that just sits behind a computer screen like a heartless prick, I have to note to the public, that this has become an unfortunate and common practice i know many of us have encountered. To the people that take zero accountability for their actions, the people who screw you over while hiding behind a PC screen, and the unsympathetic assholes out there... Seems like a nice enough park with adequate facilities. The park rangers don't have a lot going on and take their jobs very seriously. We drove through the park without buying a day pass, just checking it out. The park ranger who saw us come in and exit 10 minutes later followed us out and cited us for no day pass. Many other state parks have allowed us to check things out without staying and buying a pass but this ranger could not see our individual situation and let us go with a warning. Now after reading other reviews, I see this one ranger is the issue. Know the rules and obey them, then pray you dont run into office er Turpin. read more

I stayed in the campground for 2 weeks in early June 2013. I enjoyed the elbow room, peace and quiet on weekdays, and bike paths, which include paths that lead to shopping. The downtown area also is easily accessible by bicycle. The sites have no water or sewer (each loop has a spigot and the campground has a dump station), but the camping fees reflect that. The rangers are ever-present and quickly address rule violations, but are friendly, reasonable, and accommodating. On the weekends, the campground filled up and it seemed that everyone had a campfire burning. The problem was that the smoke and fumes hung stagnant in the campground air. I had to go inside my RV and turn on the A/C so I could breathe, which is the only reason this campground gets 4 instead of 5 stars. read more
