I was watching the DJ during this time and he seemed to be a bit confused and flustered that the music wasn't playing when it clearly should have been. 3.) Despite the brides request, he only played one country song at what was clearly a country wedding and a barn venue (bridal party wearing cowboy boots, etc.) 4.) The maid of honor personally requested the "dollar dance" to be started and the DJ replied, verbatim, "What's the point? Nobody's dancing anyway." Be careful of this company. Full payment up front clearly means, we have your money so too bad, so sad on the job they do. I feel terrible for this bride and groom. This DJ obviously did not care about them or making their special day, special.

They came highly recommended from friends of ours as well as provided DJ services at my sister's wedding two years ago where they also did not disappoint (the dance floor was never once even close to being empty, and the bride and groom were happy to hear every song they asked for played). For our wedding, we used SBD's DJ service, lighting, and photo booth, and each service made for an impeccable night. The lighting was perfectly placed to showcase the cream city brick in The Pritzlaff. The photo booth was a hit with everyone--young and old. We got to take a photo booth album home with us the very same night, complete with notes from guests, which allowed us to capture some of the funny/sweet moments that happened after the photographer left for the night. Our DJ, Nathan Moore, was so on top of every last detail both in our meetings and emails leading up to the event and in coordinating the logistics on the day of. He really listened to and understand our taste in music and played all of the songs we wanted to hear, while also paying attention to the crowd at the moment when discerning which song to play. We both highly recommend Sound By Design for any event that requires any of the services they provide. The entire team is professional yet approachable, responsive in communication, and does everything they can to make sure the night is absolutely perfect for the bride and groom. We had to wait more than four weeks to get an appointment at a time that worked for our work schedules, though Dylan was very friendly and personable. He asked questions that were more than just the surface queries about music styles and the venue, and we enjoyed the meeting. Having met with other DJs previously, Sound By Design came in a bit higher than the other quotes, but we really liked the overall vibe. We asked if they could match the price of our other leading vendor and received no reply. At all. I fully expected to hear that they don't negotiate their prices insert generic policy language here, I did not expect to be ghosted by the company like a bad Tinder date. For argument's sake, let's say that the interwebs failed and they did not receive the email in which we inquired about negotiating on the price. In that scenario, wouldn't Dylan have reached out after not hearing from us? His line of questioning had us with the impression that the personal connection was important to Sound By Design, but I fear that is just lip service. In the end I went two stars since their lack of answer made a potentially difficult choice that much easier.

He scheduled a time to meet us ahead of our wedding, which was great because then it didn't feel like we were strangers on the day. We had great conversation and spent time going over the plan and our playlist. We really appreciated Rick's attention to detail and making sure he knew what kind of vibe we wanted for the dance floor. On wedding day, Rick showed up and immediately brought the good vibes! He was hyping us up before cocktail hour even began and getting us excited for the night ahead. Cocktail hour music was a perfect rom-com vibe. We had a "Top Gun" themed grand entrance, he nailed the music loop and getting the room hyped up for us to walk in. Throughout the rest of the night, he did an awesome job getting the crowd out on the dance floor and participating! He walked around with the microphone getting people to sing along, urged people to get out there, and even made an impromptu karaoke performance for me and my husband to "Paradise by the Dashboard Light". My husband and I had one wish for our reception... and that it was an awesome dance party. We had very particular and nontraditional requests. Cam shared helpful insights based on his past experiences while being incredibly accommodating. Perhaps most importantly, if we asked for something that may have slightly conflicted with his recommendation (e.g. we did not want uplighting) he was not judgmental and totally went with the flow. He even managed to get us a disco ball, per our special request! The result was IMO the best and most unique wedding dance party we could have asked for. If you like old school hip-hop, dance/electronic, and indie pop music (and loathe the chicken dance), we would highly recommend DJ Cam Jamz!! But actually, no matter what your taste in music, we would recommend him... because he cares about his clients and will play whatever they want in order to create the perfect experience for them.
