Turkey, ham,stuffing, veggies, and potatoes
Jessica P.

After St. Paddy's Parade meal was comfort food realized! Upstairs is their restaurant area, while downstairs is their pub. Get a table by the windows if you can, the people watching is spectacular! I went for the ham, turkey, stuffing, carrots, broccoli, and potatoes. This was heaven in my mouth! Who doesn't love Thanksgiving all year round? Every bite had so much flavor! My friend had the deep fried brie with currants and cassis, which was ooey gooey deliciousness accompanied with a very nice side salad! Everything was very reasonably priced and I highly recommend having a nice glass of Guinness with your meal!

This review is for the pub in the hotel and NOT the actual lodging. After spending a week in the rather touristy, post-card perfect town of Killarney, I learned that the locals generally hate tourists. Having grown up in a tourist town myself, I get it. Tourons, tourtards... they sort of suck. So after getting the coldish shoulder from the locals and staff at many of the pubs in town, we became short term regulars at the Failte Hotel pub. The staff here was awesome, and the bartender who's name I forget was the man. He ALWAYS was on time with fresh pints and did it with a genuine smile. We ate here many nights and the food was always really good, especially the seafood chowder. We even came here to watch the Ireland v. Scotland rugby game and got to get rowdy with the rugger fans. I would totally suggest this place for drinks and food hands down in Killarney.

Kangaroo!

I love this place...the hotel, the bar, the food. It is an entire experience! Paudie and Eileen are fantastic hosts! There is free WiFi in the bar area... and they're very nice when my students crowd in to use it, but not to buy any drinks... Paudie and Eileen also always take the time to greet me at some point during our stay and I really appreciate that. I had dinner one of the nights (it has become a tradition for me)... I chose the set menu. I had the Feta Cheese Salad with the Walnut Oil Dressing. It was a good combination, but maybe a little too much walnut oil. However, lots of feta cheese, which I know it is the focus of the salad, but often times when there are nice ingredients among lettuce, places tend to skimp on those, but they didn't here... in fact I may have had a bit more cheese than lettuce... which I just put on the toast that came in my basket of bread. I went with the Tournedo of Kangaroo... I've never had kangaroo before, so I figured there is a first for everything. First of all, it was absolutely beautiful when it came out! A work of art! I expected the kangaroo to be a bit tougher than your average steak, but it really wasn't as tough as I thought it would be. It does have a very strong flavour. I guess 'gamey' might be the word for it. Regardless of the natural flavour, it was cooked nicely and the raspberry and port reduction that went with it was spot on! There was braised red cabbage and then of course a side of veggies (broccoli and sweet potato) and mashed potatoes. I finished with the apple pie. My only complaint about that... not enough custard to go with the apple pie, but it was very nicely done. The last time I was here, I had the Chocolate Truffle Torte... RICH AND AMAZING! My friend (he was driving the coach and I was leading the tour) had the warm duck salad with feta cheese and walnut oil... he liked it so much he was ready to order it again the next night. The next night (we enjoyed it so much we came back again) we had the mixed meat spring rolls... which were the best part of the meal! They should offer it as a main because it is just amazing. I had the parmesan crusted cod and he had the pan fried salmon... both just delicious. It was just too much food though and I always feel bad about leaving really good food on the plate! They also do food in the bar area and the specials menu always looks delicious and sometimes I think the options are better than the ones in the restaurant! Regardless, you should stop in!

This review is for the bar and food only, as I did not stay at the hotel unfortunately. The hotel's locale on College Street is perfect and gets you right in the middle of Killarney's nightlife and charming town. Someone in Killarney at another establishment encouraged me to go to the Failte. Traveling as a single female on my own can sometimes be a hit and miss when adventuring out into the night for entertainment. I took this fine young man's advice and I cannot say enough as to how pleased I was with the outcome! First, every staff member was helpful and friendly. I arrived before anyone in Killarney goes out, which is about 9:30 pm. The two most charming and fellas behind the bar had me feeling comfortable from the time I walked into the door. They were not only kind but kept me in stitches (laughing) every minute I was there. They were attentive to my pint needs, came to make me laugh if they thought I was not having a good time and provided their own kind of entertainment. I also want to say how impressed I was with how they care for their customers needs and safety. They were mindful if there were anyone who had too much to drink and getting in the way of my having a safe and good time. This is NOT to say The Failte is not safe for single females. It is just sometimes people have one too many and stuff happens or people get more friendly than normal. Cieran and Derek definitely made my nights in Killarney! Thank you for showing this Yank a great time! The Videos, singing, laughing, dancing, jokes made me NOT want to leave to go elsewhere on my nights in Killarney and that is NOT an easy thing to do with all there is to do on nights in this, my most favorite town in Ireland! Never a dull moment! Always greeted by name and with a smile is something you don't get in most places anywhere! The female staff were also lovely and cheerful. The food here is pretty good, as well. I had the fish and chips, which were enormous! I know there was a crack made that I had made a poor attempt at eating, but my goodness this was a huge portion and great for the price! The drinks are also a great bargain, as well. The veggie soup was lovely. I noticed that there were many locals who came in just to eat and to me, that is an excellent sign of great food and good fun. Live music here was FANTASTIC! It is not traditional Irish music. For those looking to have a good singalong to new and old favorites with great artists this is the place to go and have a phenomenal time. Next time I am in Killarney I hope to see you all again! Great time! Great place! Great people!

Came here for dinner and not the hotel. Great drinking a Guinness at a table by the window.

Came here for dinner and did not stay at the hotel. This restaurant was highly recommended by the bartender at Courtney's Bar down the street. As you walk up the stairs you can smell delicious home cooking. The restaurant is small but very quaint. It can seat approximately 25-30 people. The staff is very friendly and always willing to give you suggestions on the menu. We ordered the Irish beef stew and it hit the spot. On a cold wet evening in Ireland this meal was exactly what we needed. I would like to come back for other items on the menu.

Big fish, average flavour

We had dinner here and it was wonderful. We walked in with 10 women, they welcomed us, seated us and the food outstanding.

We were seated in a small room across from the windows. It would have been nice to be next to the windows, but there's only so many windows. Our server was pleasant and respectful. We ordered right away. The server brought complimentary breads with a delicious olive tapenade. I ordered the seafood paparadelle. The dish was unfortunately on the bland side but the seafood was cooked appropriately. My husband had the duck breast and enjoyed it. They finished the meal with cute little complimentary doughnuts. Nice touch. During our meal we had told the server that it was incredibly warm in the restaurant. He told us that someone had told him the same thing the night before and the manager said "this time of year we have to run the heat". Ugh. In one of the tables across from us, we watched a woman mopping sweat off her forehead several times. We had planned on a second drink, but it was much too hot.

The room itself is very well appointed and laid out in one of the most travel friendly designs I have seen. A desk, a seating area with a table to enjoy your morning beverage by the window, a refrigerator neatly hidden under the television. 4.5 stars Full…read moredisclosure: We received a complimentary room upgrade to a Junior Suite at check-in and were placed in the room located directly above the hotel's main entrance. We were also treated to a complimentary sample of sweets in celebration of our honeymoon. The Malton does "historical hotel" right. It successfully achieves an elegant and vintage atmosphere without seeming "dated." The building itself makes a memorable impression covered in ivy surrounded by beautiful gardens. The Malton is an oasis in the heart of Killarney - within walking distance of all the shops and pubs. The room was gorgeous and the bathroom was supplied with modern amenities that still kept that classic touch. It's worth noting that the hotel does not have air conditioning, but we still found our room to be comfortable. Our only complaint about the room is that it is a little noisy (because of its location about the entrance, no doubt.) Breakfast included the typical array of pastries, meats, and cheeses, but also featured a made-to-order hot food menu with ample variety. The Belgian waffle was worth noting - it was coated in cinnamon and every bite was scrumptious. (It's a bit small though - order 2!) Unfortunately, the restaurant is not managed very well during breakfast. You must wait to be seated by a host, who may then take your order for coffee/tea and toast to pass along to your server - which really slows the seating process. The dining room is tightly packed, making it a little difficult for wheelchairs or strollers to maneuver. (Even on foot, winding your way to the buffet can be difficult.) One thing I wish we had done, but didn't have time - the Malton's wine tasting room!

Three lattes with scones later in an elegant lounge area reeking with character as a former Great Southern railway hotel, we moseyed off to our meeting resolving unanimously to return for lunch before our afternoon train if time permitted. Which it duly did. Steak sandwiches for two and salad for the sad vegetarian were deemed excellent. As it was Friday and we'd had a productive meeting I awarded myself a beer. At 2 in the afternoon. Such decadence. Thus replenished we boarded our train back to the shmoke. If the rest of the hotel is anything like the food in the restaurant I will definitely stay here should the opportunity present. Excellent.
