My friend and I tried to watch a movie there, but we were turned away due to our ethnicity.

And they have just expanded the historic building to include a third theater, not to mention the garden behind the Lounge where we have seen a couple of films. It's always a treat when a show in Theater 1is preceded by organ music by Dennis Scott; he generally themes the music to the movie (ex: when we saw "Contempt" this weekend he said all the songs he played were from the year the film came out). They show everything: action, romance, foreign films, cult classics like "Rocky Horror," thrillers and suspense, indie films, documentaries, animation. Every Valentine's Day they show "The Princess Bride," and they do series like "Metal Movie Night," "Cat Video Fest," and "Sapphopalooza." The building itself is reason to go, particularly since it has been restored and new chairs were put into Theater 1 a couple of years ago. We have been in both Theaters 2&3 now since that more recent renovation and they also look beautiful and are very comfortable. Check out a movie and a piece of Chicago history at the same time!

The theater I went to was very clean and the reclining chair was warm and comfortable. Wait staff was courteous. I ordered my ticket online on their website and there were no problems with it. I loved that I could order a tall glass of water. THANK YOU for that. I haven't been to many places that just offer water that isn't in a plastic bottle. Viewers were very respectful. The theater was dead quiet through the whole movie and everyone followed the rules. Good vibe, good crowd. Good size screen and good arrangement. I can't wait to come back. I might even be back tomorrow. Best cinema experience I've had, and the best viewing crowd I've been in too. A tip for when you're ordering: When the movie started, it was too dark in the theater to scan the QR code again. Thankfully I could get the tab screen back up. Do not close your browser window on your phone so you can go back to it if you want to order more!

The theater is on the third floor and they have a really cool entrance with a bar, retro/foreign movie posters and a cool lounge w old school TVs. We purchased our tix online so didn't spend a lot of time there. The theater itself was comfy with wide and long reclining chairs. I liked that you can order from the seat and the table held plenty. The movie screen size was not big but the sound was great. We got a mix of food - the churro popcorn was fun and we shared mozzarella sticks and pretzels. All was good but like all movie theaters, expensive for what you get. Overall, a good experience but after spending $100 between two tickets, food (no entrees) and drinks, I'm not sure the value was fully there.

I've been near the front at crazy shows and got smushed from people pushing/moshing. The security is pretty good about handing out water to the crowd though. Also, if it's a crowded show, it does take awhile to get out of the venue because you have to go down a staircase. The stage is very high up and kind of far from the front row, but it's nice because even if you're in the back you can see the stage performers. If you're at barricade, the sound is EXTREMELY loud so bring earplugs! The speakers are huge and directly in front of you. I made the mistake of not having earplugs at barricade. It's an average venue. I wouldn't say it's my favorite or that it's one of the worst. This venue probably has one of my favorite women's bathrooms though lol--I just love how enormous it is and all the mirrors and vanity lights in it. I also love the historic interior design throughout the venue! It's beautiful. They sell alcohol, snacks, candy, pizza (overpriced of course). I've never had a problem getting through security. Just don't bring in items that are not allowed and have a small bag. Although this most recent time it was weird because the bouncer asked if I was drinking and I said no, but he still wanted to check my ID for some reason.

But exiting was ATROCIOUS. I'm not claustrophobic but it seriously sketched me out. The bottleneck at the stairs felt very not safe. Show felt oversold. That being said, Hayley Williams was great and the sound seemed decent!

Merlin provides comprehensive therapeutic services, including ABA, ST, PT, OT, and Social Work, in addition to educational services. The staff are insightful, creative, patient, compassionate and fun, and my son absolutely loves his time at school. The learning mixed with therapeutic play is just right for him developmentally, and his therapists take a holistic approach to building social and academic, and other skills he'll need to function throughout life. As someone who taught for nearly a decade and has worked in school settings since, I can fully appreciate the level of individual attention he gets from his therapists and therapeutic assistants, the extensive communication with families to stay up to date on our goals for our child and to let us know how his day is going (including notes and photos throughout the day!). And mostly I appreciate that he is not just sitting around at a desk all day doing differentiated work--I he is active and thinking, engaged, and having fun as he builds new skills. I see the review from two and a half months ago, and I think the context there is important: hers was the very first child to transition from private insurance to ISBE funding, so it makes sense that she personally would have experienced the growing pains as they adjust to a different system. I can imagine that this is a steep learning curve, and I'd extend some grace to them as they figure it out. In our second year at the Avondale location, I'd say they have worked out a lot of kinks, and that this is a joyful place for my child to learn throughout the day. We have found it to be a godsend.
