Even though all of the projection staff is made up of volunteers and students, projection is also pretty high-quality.

Harper Theater - The line for tickets

This is unfortunately another instance of parents letting their unruly teenage kids go unsupervised…read morethus ruining the theater experience. The theater itself is great. The food at the concessions is typical, I ordered the Harper combo with a popcorn & fountain drink. It was delicious , no complaints. I believe having a designated person that could print, check or help with the purchasing of tickets would greatly help the experience. No one offered to print our tickets out, so we went to the wrong theater at first. Once we went to the right theater, I noticed someone was sitting in one of our seats. Ok no big deal. However the people I sat next to, who I'm assuming were younger teenagers, were very distracting. They kept talking & playing around in their seats, then the girl sitting next to me kept playing on her phone scrolling on social media, taking pictures and then at one point accepted a face time call in the middle of the theater. It didn't seem like something someone who paid money to see a movie would do; as the young couple didn't seem to be interested in the movie at all. Anyways, I told the people at front whom I'm assuming is the manager. They seemed very apologetic & wanted to make sure they made things right so I'd return again. I think my rule of thumb for this theater is to not go when school is on break. That seems to be when these type of issues arise. Again I don't think it's the theaters fault in this case, but something needs to change. The movie theater itself was cool, the sound and visual was cool. I like that it's a smaller theater, it's just whenever there are disruptions it becomes painfully obvious and distracting.

Beautiful bar area, dining area, sitting area and always a creative photo area. On this day crowds were everywhere, mostly wearing something purple. The theater was organized having the movie "The Color Purple" in 6 different theaters all starting at different times. This was perfect as today was opening day. There could be a little more attention given to the ladies bathroom.

Now, this actually wouldn't normally get a FIVE STAR rating from me, but with its current 1 and a…read morehalf I know for sure that is unfairly low. I say this place is a solid 4 if not 3.5 stars. The restrooms aren't as clean as they could be but I think patrons are used to the self flushing toilets that other theaters offer. The staff is friendly, their uniforms are almost nonexistent and I see generally wearing primarily black is the look. But I'm not sure this place is getting the foot traffic required to make enough profit to provide a standard uniform for staff. The seat are comfy, and I enjoyed watching the Little Mermaid yesterday (Thursday). When I left there was a LIVE DJ and the bar was more serviced!! That's when I initially noticed the Barbie Movie themed drinks. Too bad I didn't see them prior otherwise I could've been sipping while watching my film. There's a comfy seating aren't set to the DJ booth, also booth seating available on the other end of the bar area. There are screens showing live games or news over the bar area, and this place has really taken the time to prioritize being family friendly. They seem to have a different vendor available every evening or at least the vendor for Thursday is different from the vendor I'm seeing today (Friday). I had a surprisingly good time seeing the Little Mermaid ‍ so I knew I would be back Friday for a not really late at all check-in at the bar . Definitely glad I came back and will come again with more because with the free parking on premises and proximity to the Red Line train it really can't be beat! I say overcome any hesitations you may have of the neighborhood and ENJOY this treasure.

I visited this theater for the first time since AMC took it over from Icon. Everything appeared to…read morebe the same except the seats and the snacks counter. I bought tickets online so I simply had them scanned upon arrival. Having to wait in line for a kiosk to open up would be incredibly annoying. I saw Scream 7 opening day, so the theater was packed. I walked right to the concession stand only to find a long line at the only available kiosk. Rather than wait in line, we ordered via the AMC app. I'm not sure if doing that was much faster, but we were at least able to skip the line. The bathrooms could definitely use a refresh. It smelled, and the toilet paper was running low. Some of the soap dispensers were also empty. I went to an IMAX showing and found the seats really uncomfortable. They've been updated, but they're definitely not as comfortable as the old Icon red recliners. They also don't recline as much, which sucked. The popcorn was fresh and hot, though, which is a big plus. The AMC theater in the burbs that I usually visit dumps popcorn from bags into the counter storage area. I also just saw the Michael Jackson movie there too and had a similar experience. I rarely go to the movies in the city, but if I do, I might have to go to AMC on Columbus or Block 37. I'm not sure if I can keep this location on the list.

Judging by the reviews, I'm not alone here…read more I've been a longtime fan of the ICON Theater at 1011 S. Delano Ct E, so I was excited (and a bit cautious) when AMC took over. Unfortunately, the rebrand hasn't been a great experience so far. The biggest change is the shift to touchscreen kiosks for both tickets and concessions. While convenient in theory, it removes a lot of flexibility and human interaction. Once you order, you're funneled through the system with little room to make adjustments or ask questions without jumping through hoops. For example, I ordered Impossible nuggets and selected one sauce. When I tried to ask for a different sauce at the counter, I was told I had to go back to the kiosk and place a new order. I ended up speaking to three different people, including a manager, just to swap or add a $1 sauce. That level of rigidity is frustrating and unnecessary, and it actually made me late for my movie. Another issue is the bar and grill. I arrived early hoping to sit at the bar while waiting for a friend, but I was told I couldn't enter unless I had already purchased a movie ticket. Since we planned to buy tickets together, I couldn't go in. Even security didn't understand the policy. It feels shortsighted, why have a bar if people can't access it freely? It limits both customer experience and potential business. On the positive side, the theater itself is still great. The seating remains comfortable, and the movie experience hasn't changed much from the ICON days. Overall, though, AMC has made the experience more complicated and less customer-friendly. The over-reliance on kiosks and strict policies takes away from what used to be an easy, enjoyable outing. I'm glad the space still exists, but I hope improvements are made, especially when it comes to customer service and accessibility. 2 out of 5 stars.
