The theater is a decent size especially considering it's in the Chicago Ridge Mall, they even had a bar in the theater which is a nice touch, concessions, and even had a lot of mini claw machines. It was really cool that AMC even had merch of their own and even from various movies as well. Movie Experience: The movie was showing in screen/theater 2 and the layout of the theater was nice. The movie in my opinion was really good and they even had a post-credit scene with both Daniel LaRusso & Johnny Lawrence. I do agree with some of the other reviews that the theater walls at least in screen/theater 2 are thin as I was hearing muffled audio from the theater next door. I'm wondering how this can be resolved. Maybe sound proofing each theater to truly get the full movie theater experience? Just my thoughts on this. Claw Machines: The claw machines are $1 per play. The claw machines don't accept bills or card, so you have to go to this machine that gives you tokens. My boyfriend spent $5 in tokens and unfortunately I didn't win anything even though some of the prizes looked gettable. Overall Experience: Overall, I had great experiences at the AMC theater in the Chicago Ridge mall. The theater was clean, easy to navigate, & the bathrooms were clean. Definitely need to go back soon and hopefully I can win me some cute plushies from their mini claw machines. The line looks long but I managed to arrive about 25min before the headliner came on and made it to a good spot ~5min before he came out. If you don't have a bag you get to skip the line, so I'm glad I didn't bring one. I do like that they always have a staff member outside with the line to help keep things going and organized. I saw GRiZ for a North Coast Afters here and he was phenomenal! The lasers and production for a small space were very impressive. The only tough thing is egress -- everyone has to go through the same small theater doors and they close off half the doors in front. It'd be nice if they use all doors, or even let us use the emergency exits. It gets kind of dangerous with people pushing to exit. As someone who works in live events as a career, the egress always confuses me! All in all, I enjoy shows

Fun place to watch movies for cheap (7 USD per ticket). There are even free screenings sometimes…read more Dinky theatre, no concessions, and no intermissions. Sometimes, the screenings are followed by panel discussions with faculty or even filmmakers. The most memorable screening I attended was of "The Janes" (2022): based on the real-life story of bad-ass women from the late 60s and early 70s who provided abortion services to Chicago women before the legalization of abortion (Roe v Wade) in 1973. There was a panel discussion following the screening with the actual Janes (now in their 80s) who spoke about their experiences as part of the Jane Project. It was an incredible experience. Since then, I've been going to Doc quite consistently. They often have fun themes, such as a martial arts series, and also screen mainstream films like Barbie and most recently, One Battle After Another. There are quarters where I don't enjoy their selections, but when I do go, I always enjoy the movie-going experience. The theatre is medium-sized and quite shabby. It is usually very clean and the sound and picture quality are great. The website is quite poorly designed, so I would recommend buying tickets in person. I recommend a visit to Doc if you are in Hyde Park and find their selections interesting: the calendar is on the Doc Films website.

Although Apple Maps says it's in millennium park it is adjacent to the park and you enter from the street (use the actual address when walking from train). When you enter there are friendly greeters to make sure you have tickets and the ticket booth was directly behind them. They showed us toward the elevators where another greeter scanned our tickets, go to floor 1, and we followed the notes on our tickets on which door to enter, row, seats. TBH, we purchased the tickets months ago; just picked 2 seats that I thought were in the mezzanine (I think). As we walked closer to the stage, I was worried we were not in the correct seats but the show was sold out and no one moved us. Long story short, orchestra level, last row, middle section, BEST seats! Ladies, there were so many attendees I didn't check out the bathroom situation but I heard a few say they were going and came back fairly quickly so hoping quite a few stalls. Enjoy your event!

I'm sure the majority of us don't remember a time before "talkies". The silent film era of the…read morelate 1800's and early 1900's was full of a different kind of visual quality and audience participation. Showings of silent films almost always featured live music by either a pianist or an organist. Such is the case with the Silent Film Society of Chicago. Thanks to this organization I have been able to relive the birth of motion pictures. They started out at the Gateway Theater and showed films at places such as the Pickwick Theater in Park Ridge and The Arcada Theater in St. Charles. The recently refurbished the Portage Theater and stated showing films once again. Did you love Phantom of the Opera? Well you haven lived until you've seen the original with Lon Chaney. Most of us have seen films with Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. Now introduce yourself to others actors such as Roscoe Arbuckle (aka Fatty Arbuckle), Louise Brooks, and hotties like Rudolph Valentino and Gloria Swanson. Like any movie theater they have concessions in the lobby but also sell other items from "The Age of the Silver Screen". They have post cards, movie posters, photos, and more. This past summer they had a silent summer film festival for six consecutive Fridays. Hopefully they'll do is again this summer. Oh and not let's forget the monster film festival. That's about the time Phantom of the Opera comes out. So get off the computer and see an oldie but not necessarily moldy. The society has a mailing list which offer advance ticket sales and notify you of up coming events. You can also call or contact them on their website. Trust me; this is a fun thing to do especially with the one you love.

This is a group with a great mission. And I love silent films and have attended many of the…read morefestivals. But from my experience the organization is poorly managed. Some examples: 1) Some silent films have been rescored with gorgeous music by the composer Carl Davis. Other films - such as Metropolis - have wonderful original scores. Typically the society has live accompaniment from a shrill sounding organ or worse - someone playing the saw. Really ruins the experience. 2) The website typically doesn't typically work. 3) Last year I paid for a membership and received - nothing. No emails, no newsletters, nothing. Its a hard enough road to get people to appreciate silent film without these types of roadblocks. Can't compare to San Francisco's silent film festival.

I am a big fan of the MCA Theatre for a variety of reasons…read more 1st - there isn't a bad seat in the house. It isn't a large theater, so no matter where you are siting you have a good view of the performance. 2nd - the acoustics are excellent, and make a large difference when you see a piece that involves music. 3rd - they do a wonderful job of programming excellent performances. 4th - ticket prices are not expensive and are a great value. If you are a member you get a discount on almost all shows. 5th - the lobby is a cozy space to wait for the doors to open up to your show. And the bathrooms are nice, clean and modern. Some old theaters have disgusting bathrooms with one stall. Blech! 6th - great location. There are lots of restaurants and bars close by. I would like to see them improve their drink selection that they offer primarily. It can be a bit of a hassle to get there if you are driving, but the bus drops you off very close by, and there is a subway stop about 6 blocks away. Prepare to pay a lot of money to park if you intend on driving.

They opened up 45 minutes early to let us into the main space which was super cool considering it was getting into the upper 30s outside. There's not a bad seat in the house, but the seats themselves are bad as they are minimal and pretty uncomfortable. The leg room is decent and there's enough pitch to the space that you will never have someone's head blocking your view. The sound is good, the acoustics are good. Overall, a very decent spot to see a show, movie, band, what have you.
