I was very disappointed with my experience at Fabricland's Tillicum location. As a novice sewer, I visited the store looking for guidance on fabric requirements for a project and intended to purchase my materials there. One staff member kindly helped me estimate the amount of fabric I would need. However, during the interaction, the manager reprimanded me for asking for that level of assistance and stated that it was not the staff's job to help customers in that manner. While I understand there may be limits to the advice employees can provide, there was a much more professional and customer-friendly way to communicate that message. As a result of the experience, I chose not to make my fabric purchase at Fabricland. Instead, I visited Cloth Castle in Langford, where the staff were extremely helpful, answered my questions, and provided excellent customer service. I purchased my materials there and would not hesitate to return. It's unfortunate, as I had recently paid $25 for a Fabricland membership, but based on this experience, I don't anticipate using it. read more

I have no problem with the store, but I do have issues with staff members who take sewing work, help me read the pattern back and decide I need 15 METRES of tulle (10 white and 5 with butterfly appliqué). We discussed that it was necessary to have that amount of tulle to create an underskirt that isn't too puffy but has volume. She stated that she could have it done in 2 weeks (it was). When she got the pattern home she realized it was for pants (would she not have noticed when we were looking at fabric quantity?), made the decision to create a skirt pattern (no consultation) , then charged me EXTRA. This is what I received: a transparent tube of tulle, barely gathered, that is unwearable. I know that this is not the responsibility of Fabricland, but they should at least know what kind of services and abilities their employees are offering, especially when the jobs are being arranged at the store during business hours. $350 bucks down the drain read more

Fabricland - Fabric Stores Near Me - Victoria, British Columbia

I just had the most appalling experience when calling this store to see if they had a specific yarn in stock that I had gotten there the previous week. The two staff members I spoke to were very ignorant of even where to look for the yarn. The first one put me on hold while she served another customer and finally returned only to hand me over to a very rude lady who kept asking me to read the label of what yarn I was looking for... and when I repeated what it was over and over and she finally found it she was very abrupt, told me to call back another time and hung up on me!!!. If there was ANYWHERE else I could go to get this yarn, I would go!!! Thumbs down!!! read more

1. Tons of inventory, helpful staff if you know what you're looking for and are comfortable asking other human beings for directions. 2. The $25 yearly sewing club membership will save you *tons* if you actually do a lot of sewing/crafting/whatever and aren't just popping in for a zipper or some buttons. 3. The staff aren't jumping on you to try and sell something because its the kind of store you wander around in seeing if you find inspiration.. Hell, half of my sofa cushion covers were bought there, already made and perfect. ....by the way I can't sew to save my life, I just know a textile wizard and hang out looking at stuff when we're there and never feel uncomfortable. (in my opinion that counts as a +1) read more

The staff here are more often rude than not. I've been going here with my mum for years for various fabrics, and rarely have I had a positive experience. The past few times we have been in, a young girl has 'helped' us and has been quite rude each time. Today when we were in, my mum tried to move some fabric we were buying to make it a bit easier for the girl to cut. She snapped at her, "DON'T do that please." To which my mum was quite taken aback and said she was sorry she was just trying to help - she actually didn't even get that sentence out before the girl snapped at her again "Just DON'T." and then nervously laughed. Sheesh lady! Take a chill pill. If you feel like being snarled at while trying to buy a baby quilt, this place is for you! read more

I am a very simple sewer, mostly pajamas or easy patterns for the three children i look after. It helps pass so very long days. So I am in the tillicum store every two weeks , sometimes more. Most of the time the clerks are polite enough ,although I have had a couple of times that i felt like I was a inconvenience to the staff that sometimes try to look like they are very busy. How ever there is one clerk that will go out of her way to help me. She is always happy, She will offer suggestions for a different fabric or what about this colour. If I explain that i am having a problem with something she will say ( will have you tried this) and she never makes me feel bad because I don't know how to do something. Her name is Donna and who ever hired her has a good eye for customer service read more

Fabricland is open again! They open at 11 AM weekdays and Saturdays. There is an error on many of the website saying that they are temporarily closed. read more

I had exceptional service today at Fabricland. Donna spent a lot of time helping me find fabric for my latest project. She was warm and friendly, too. read more

98% of the time the staff is grumpy and rude. I can think of many times in the past that I have left feeling annoyed by the treatment. This past experience took the cake with a sour pickle of an old lady named Margaret grumbling passive aggressive comments about my son because he had a small palm sized bouncy ball that he dropped. She made some comment about how children shouldn't be in retail stores. If there was an equal competitor to Fabricland with nicer staff the world would be a happier place read more

I'm a frequent sewer, so I've been to Fabricland on numerous occasions, only to leave disappointed and empty handed. The customer service is quite poor, and the employees often busy themselves with other things while the customer waits at the cutting table for assistance. Their selection of cotton fabric is outdated, and it often feels like old stock that another store didn't want, The store is expanding, but in order to be successful and have repeat customers, management should carefully train employees to be knowledgeable and courteous. Customers need to feel welcome and not like an inconvenience. read more

I've been to Fabricland several times lately, and all of the staff I interacted with were helpful and friendly. I needed lining material for drapes, and the lady told me all the different types of linings they had, and where they were. Yesterday another lady helped me to find curtain rings. I have no problems with this store at all. read more

i will never go back to this store. I've been there three times to try and give the customer service a chance, but three strikes your out. The staff are rude and prejudice. They ignore you and when you finally stop someone for help, you are a complete inconvenience. I'm not sure what the staff do all day because they certainly don't help any customers, well unless you have white hair. Just because I don't look like the typical "crafter" I don't belong there. I don't understand how they still have any customers. I do not recommended going here, two thumbs down. read more

Very rude, inflexible, customer service; especially the manager.

Probably the largest fabric store in the city. The stock could be better, I have gone there a handful of times and been unable to find what I was looking for. The staff are typically friendly and helpful. Carol who helped my friend and I the other day was awesome to deal with. read more

The staff were helpful, but................suddenly it was necessary for me to label clothing within a few hours. I bought the tape suggested, and the pen. The pen was useless, soaking into the tape making the letters unreadable. I then used the hot dry iron suggested. All the labels fell off in the first laundering. The labels that made it home have clogged up the dryer, and all in all it was a total waste of money and valuable time in an emergency. I really wish that these large well known stores would make sure they are selling products worthy of their name. I now think of the store as having a "quality" issue. read more

I buy a lot of fabric and until recently absolutely detested this store. Historically the staff has been under-trained, unmotivated and quite often down right rude. Things have gotten a little better in the last couple of months -- to the point where I don't get a feeling of dread when I know I have to enter their doors. I believe they have a new manager and seem to have made some corporate changes. I still don't like this store, but unfortunately in a city the size of Victoria we have limited options so an occasional visit is a necessary evil. They don't participate or support the community in any way, shape or form, and their customer service still has a long, long, long way to go. read more

I live in Victoria BC and have shopped at the Fabricland 3170 Tillicum Rd #153 several times including today. I have to say I am appalled at the sales staff, their rudeness and lack of training. The staff are some of the worse sales staff I've ever encountered. Asking for help or assistance is often met with disinterest at best or a kind of bitter attitude and often a lack of knowledge. I thought the first time I shopped there it was just that particular clerk but every time I shopped there I come away shocked and appalled. It isn't just me, I have witnessed staff being exceptionally rude to customers or ignored as the clerk seem more interested in straightening shelves or stocking shelves or talking to each other then helping customers. And There only 3 real fabric stores in Victoria and Fabricland is the largest, so I end up going there when I'm need sewing notions or something I can't get elsewhere but I cringe each and every time because there is always something amiss. I'm a person with a disability so I walk with a cane, today I was buying thread and the two women clerks kneeling on the floor stocking shelves failed to move when it was clear that myself and two other customers wanted to look at the display of threads. Both myself and the other customers said "excuse me" and asked politely if we could look at the threads and the women only shifted slightly so that I had to pick my way through making it dangerous to keep my balance and hard to get to the thread. The store was quite busy and yet it is as your staffed have been trained with the message that customers are not worth bothering about. I think you really need to look into the management of this place. read more
