I brought items in to consign a few weeks ago. I had done this before with a good experience and I like this store. Wow was I shocked at Gita's rudeness, impatience & general unpleasantness! I had dealt with him before & found him pleasant so this completely took me off guard. He was brusque, condescending I would have stormed out after he kept repeating himself & trying to educate me on the inferiority of my items except said items were spread out over a table & trolley. Ladies working in the back, receiving area, are so lude. We are giving them business, making the store money. Why can't them treat us as customers?? I wonder, how the owner hire their employees?? I wish I could say good things about consigning ones goods. There is one particular staff member downstairs who is particularly arrogant. You know who she is so why not have a chat with her about the value of customers or better yet consign her a job that does not require people interaction. As you put it if it wasn't for consigners you would not be in business. The staff at the till are amazing but I do wonder about the turnover. I know one staff member who left because she could not stand the way customers were being treated. read more

I love the store and find the staff quite helpful out front, but some of the staff who accept goods to consign are very rude & curt. If they don't like their job, they should leave. They must remember that if it weren't for clients consigning items, they wouldn't have items to sell! read more

Used to think it was a great shop with lots of treasures but the staff can come across as quite rude but was willing to oversee that, sold a lot of things & bought things until a run in with the male dark haired worker, he is something else, acts like a spoilt man child, was told by the manager that she can't do anything as he's the owners son. Like other reviewers, I have to agree that the Owner of the business has a problematic personality. This little man uses arrogance and power-tripping to compensate for his small stature. He is not open to constructive feedback and suggestions from customers, staff and consigners. Rather, he becomes defensive, aggressive and condescending. He is one of those people who knows it all! His latest example of unbridled arrogance is to override the directives of the BC Public Health Officer, the most senior health official in the Province! The Owner now demands that his fully-vaccinated staff and customers continue to wear masks inside and outside the store because,"even if you are fully vaccinated you can still spread the virus." I'll stick with Dr Henry's advice regarding masks and vaccinations, rather than some guy who sells used household goods! I'll also be taking my business elsewhere as I can't support this little tyrant any longer. Several of his great staff have recently left because of the Owner and others suffer in silence. When I mentioned the Owner to one lovely staff member, she replied, "I feel your pain." Can someone please consign a personality transplant for the Owner of Good Things? read more

I've been hesitant to write about Good Things because it has a lot of good things and I want them all to myself! Well, that's just selfish and I don't get to Victoria enough to hog all the good things for myself...so I guess I'll share! This local consignment shop is a nice mix of new and vintage. There are 3 large rooms of well presented and organised items. My last trip I snatched up some newer Tiffany plates, old rings for my daughters, and an older piece of diner china. Yes - from jewelry to china to rugs & various home decor - Good Things has *ahem* a lot of good things (I say again). Lots of vintage chintz china here and good china in general. They also have a few vacuums and other appliances. A big case of jewellery - fine & costume. Purses & bags. Textiles. Lots of wall art. Tchotchkes galore. A children's section with contemporary & vintage books, toys & a few clothes. Some First Nations items in a small case in the room to the left. Prices aren't dirt cheap, but extremely fair. My plates were $80 - but they were Tiffany and that was very reasonable. My daughters' rings were sterling and I spent between $25-50 for them. Good prices for exceptional pieces. It is easy to consign here as well, people are in here all the time with stuff. The staff is VERY nice and they stay here - I love visiting them!! Located right by the White Heather Tea Room on the Oak Bay high street. Definitely worth a stop if you are near! Just leave some for me... read more

Love Good Things. Over the past few months, I have consigned dozens of items here. The staff are competent, professional and kind--I absolutely adore every single person including the owner, and especially Gita. As both a seller and a buyer, the prices are extremely fair and the endless supply of beautiful objects (with high turnover) keep me reinvesting all my earnings back into the store. I highly recommend consigning items here, or browsing the aisles for gorgeous, unique items in lieu of mass produced, lower quality modern equivalents. You will leave happy every time. read more

We have four consignment contracts with Good Things and have found the store to be a very effective way of distributing items we collected over the years but no longer had the space for - or had grown tired of. The counter staff provided good advice on likely selling prices and 90% of the items we presented were sold. The store IT system tracks items very efficiently and the amount owing to you is immediately available. We think the store is doing a great job for both sellers and buyers and are pleased to know that our items are going to someone who will value them. read more

This store has a very interesting selection of vintage items; however, I can't bring myself to give them more than 2 stars because the staff are unfriendly, unhelpful and in one case tried to significantly overcharge me for something and then offered a weak and fuzzy explanation for the error. I think it's Retail 101 that any business should hire staff who are friendly and helpful. It's not that difficult to find such people. A little politeness, pleasantness, the sort of basics of human interaction... these things all make the shopping experience enjoyable. And make customers want to come back. It sounds obvious to anyone with ANY knowledge of how to run a store. Not sure how it evaded the owners of this business. And keep an eye on how much they charge you at the till, to make sure they charge you the correct price. read more

Warning - Do not sell here. Horrible treatment. I called ahead of the ending of my seller's contract and said "I DO NOT WANT MY JEWELRY SOLD FOR HALF PRICE." I asked if that was alright and that I would be in on Saturday. My contract ended on Thursday. They said that that was fine. When I arrived Saturday, jewelry was sold for half price and in particular the most expensive gem piece with Sterling Silver chain, brand new. Is that a coincidence??? Not an apology or an acknowledgement. I agree with other people, just horrible. read more

Hmmmm. Lots of nice things at good value to over-priced, and fun to browse. I have shopped and consigned there for years. HOWEVER, I agree with Kate B. I've experienced and witnessed bad customer service and, moreover, bad behaviour on the part of the staff, especially the owners. Snooty is the word that comes to mind. They are hard pressed to crack a smile. They seriously seem to hate their jobs. One time one of the owners (the one with the big glasses tho likes to wear long-haired "fashion" vests and other flamboyant outfits) made an error on one of my consignments - donated it (mid-consignment) instead of returning it to me. I expressed surprise but I was certainly courteous about it and downplayed the issue by telling her not to worry about it. Next thing I knew, as I was browsing across the room (presumably out of earshot), she was complaining about me to the next customer, who appeared quite uncomfortable. Very unprofessional and undignified. I've also had things returned to me unexpectedly via a phone call to come and pick these items up because, after they were accepted for consignment, priced, and put on the shelves, they were then deemed "not the type of thing we want in our store." And I guess I'm not the only one this has happened to as I was in line behind someone who was having a bunch of his consignment items returned as "not good enough" after they had been accepted in prior weeks. Another person was surprised to find that, after agreeing to the consignment contract, when she picked up her payment, the owner explained they had over-priced the item and had changed the original price. I have also been the only one in line to bring in consignment items and been ignored by the staff for a full 20 minutes after they completed service to the person in front of me - no hello or we'll be right with you - that was a very demeaning feeling. The hired staff are more friendly at first and then seem to follow the lead of the owners. Seriously, people, learn some manners. You are not better than the people consigning with you. You are completely dependent on them for your business. After all - you're just a store selling used goods. The worst thing I have witnessed there is taking advantage of a woman with obvious mental disabilities who was spending beyond her means. She was a frequent customer and, even after her husband had explained the situation to the owners and asked them to discourage her from buying, I happened to witness the same owner actively pursuing a sale with her when she was there a week later on her own. That being said, you can still have a pleasant browsing or shopping experience there, thanks to the many consigners, if you can brush off the attitude of the staff who seem to fluctuate between overly-ingratiating and downright rude and ignorant. read more

Wonderful consignment store, this shop has a lot of retail space! We were walking back to our hotel after tea at the White Heather tea room and I was enamored by the tea sets out on the sidewalk. The atmosphere appeared friendly, as the store was neatly kept and clientele were quite kind to one another and aware if they were in another' way. I found some gems that have been on my Amazon Wish List for the past few years (cookbook, specific kitchen utensil, and orchid pot). I had no idea that the staff member who checked out my items was about to go on break, but still took the time to ensure I was helped (and got a discount on books, since I guess this is a thing?) . I enjoyed every minute of shopping here and will likely return next time we are in Victoria! read more

Well this was my first time using a consignment store, and I was very happy with the service. Yes the owner is a business woman and has to deal with so many people on a daily basis, so some may find her manner a bit direct. I found her to be straight to the point, professional, engaging and honest. I was not taken back in the least with some of her descions not to accept what I was bringing in. Hell it is her store...and people when taking things to a consignment store you know you will take a big loss, it's the nature of any consignment store. If you think you have something of real value or greatly disagree with a quote then sell it yourself. I have had great luck on Used Victoria. I was ever so impressed with the speed and efficiency which items were looked up for an honest appraisal. The store itself is clean, organized and a treat to browse through. If and when I need to use a consignment store again it will be Good Things. read more

Both myself and other customers have had a significant number of thefts recently. Two of my best objects are missing from my last contract and two again now. As a business, they are making boat loads of money- and can write off losses; I however, cannot replace expensive goods that I paid forty dollars for, was to receive half of 30 ( 15) and then they disappear. Not impressed. The store is now too busy and needs someone at the door to monitor for stolen goods. read more

First of all, this guy the recent reviewer refers to is NOT the owner and he is rarely around now, for whatever reason. Actually the staff could not be more perfect and the cleanliness of and the way the store is run is exemplary. That one individual's lack of understanding and compassion led her to write this scathing review says to me more about that reviewer than it does about the store. Even though I don't live in Oak Bay I take every opportunity to go to Good Things as I have done since I moved here 9 years ago. I even used to work in the store so I think I speak with some understanding. This is by far the best consignment store I have ever come across and I have travelled and lived in different countries across the globe. I am so grateful for its existence as are so many others. Hey now, the owners Son is friendly and always helpful and accommodating. I would actually say that about almost the entire staff. Keep in mind that this shop can be a zoo - very busy during peak hours. And that these are consigned goods, not donations. The owner of the consigned item wants a cut of the cash flow. I can honor that and pay a bit more. The selection is great. There is something to please almost everyone. From antique pocket knifes to diamond rings. Also, it should be noted that the shop is located in the Oak Bay area. Not Store Street downtown, which offers a bit more of a "ghetto" shopping experience. read more

This store has a wide variety of household items, a good assortment to choose from.The problem is, most of things in the store for used items are over priced. They also do not have a return policy - strike that they do. You can't return anything. You may however have something on approval for 24 hours if it costs more than $50. Even Value Village has a 14 day return policy if you are not happy with a purchase. Secondly, the owner's son has a major attitude problem, very defensive, and not warm in the least. And this is unfortunately a standard set at the store for most of the staff, who, are 70+, unfriendly and from their snippy attitude, think they are way too above working retail. I had a simple question and was treated with indifference and rudeness. I tried to bring this to the owner's son's attention, as the owner was not present that day. The son had zero interest in hearing anything, all he said was they've never had a complaint about anything or anyone ever before. Which is not only unbelievable, it is irrelevant. He had no interest in hearing what my concern was, and who it was about. Just that they had no complaints ever, so in essence, his message to me was, that "I" was the problem. Interesting way to do business, but not surprising these days. Go to Value Village for old treasures, at least the staff there try to do their best to be accommodating and friendly. read more

My mother and I have shopped at this store for many years and have spend hundreds of dollars there and yet we have had numerous negative experiences with the staff, particularly the owner. We are often treated rudely and with unnecessary harsh tones. Where did the days of customer service go? There is one young man that works there that has always been very helpful and friendly, but he is the exception. The store itself is great, but the service is awful! read more

I love this consignment store! It has everything from furniture, kitchen supplies, vintage, toys, books, and jewelry...it has things for men, women and children... store for all ages! I love how every time I go there it's like seeing it for the first time... it's ever changing and exciting. I also consign things that I no longer need and their system is great. The staff are extremely nice and very helpful. This is by far my favourite shopping place in Victoria! I love it! read more
