During a short visit to Duncan for Father's Day, I was excited to spend quality time with my Dad and treat him to some new clothes. We searched for menswear options and Outlooks came up first, so we headed there full of enthusiasm and ready to shop. We walked in smiling and ready for a great experience. I introduced my Father and explained we were looking to outfit him with some new pieces. The saleswoman took one look at him and flatly said, "We have nothing for him." No effort. No conversation. No alternative suggestions. Just a dismissive brush-off and out the door we went--feeling dejected and frankly, unwelcome. Thankfully, just two doors down was Jim's Clothes Closet. Not only did they greet us warmly, but their amazing team, especially CoCo, helped my Dad find pants in the exact size the Outlook's employee insisted wouldn't fit him. On top of that, he left with shirts, belts, a hat, and a great vest--plus a smile on his face. Outlooks Menswear gave us the worst customer service experience I've had in years. If you value your time, your money, and being treated like a human being, keep walking right past this place.

My boyfriend doesn't often shop for casual clothes so it was a nice treat for him to get such attentive customer service. The gentleman working was happy to give feedback and picked out some nice pieces while speaking about the quality of items they bring in. Most of the items are either made local or sweatshop free in the USA. This is the kind of quality I want to spend money on and is generally a deciding factor when I make any purchase. I also wanted to speak about the simplicity of the decor and layout of the shop. Great merchandising as it really draws the eye in. They also sell some quality accessories including footwear, bags, ties and sunglasses. We will certainly be back when we visit the island again.

The Roots clothing style is very classy, but comfortable and still somewhat stylish. They also draw a lot of inspiration for their women's clothing from yoga, and I love yoga so maybe that explains it. Their sweaters and wraps are beautiful and I've found the best yoga jeans here (separate brand but I haven't found many places that carry them). They also make quality leather goods, and have neat country and hockey clothing lines. It's a good thing that there's no stores in the States or I would be broke. But, it's also a shame that there aren't more stores in the States because of the sales and provincial taxes in Canada, but here's to supporting Canadians through my addiction to Roots! ;)

Still Life came to the rescue when they had a certain item in a different color that I was eyeing on, so I snagged it. They were also having some great sales, so I was able to purchase a winter jacket (OSC) as well! I also love that you can count on the fact that the pieces that you receive will be of high quality and made extremely well. I was looking to buy a few new items. I am also very cognizant that we are in a global pandemic and I have been sanitizing my hands and wearing a mask consistently. I do have an autoimmune issue, so I am aware. I am not the type of person who ignores public health mandates, but I was just so excited to be in this store I didn't see the hand sanitizer to the right as I walked in. AS soon as I started looking, like maybe I had been in the shop for about 5 seconds, this lady storms over to me and loudly demands I use the sanitizer. It was just so abrupt and really rude and embarrassing, I couldn't even respond. Her tone was so off-putting and made me feel like I was absolute trash. I worked in boutiques in New York for years in my 20s and waited tables as a college student and as a graduate student. I never spoke to people like this. Ever. It was clear to me by her really abrasive attitude that I didn't belong in that store so I sanitized my hands and left literally in tears.

I was told this is normal for the leather to crease when clearly you can see the rip! I have been an owner of SECRID wallets before, I have one 3 years old and it doesn't have any rips! The first action to resolve by Seller is to use the 3 year warranty that comes with new wallets to get a replacement. Again, UNACCETABLE! Finally I was given the option to return. It was like pulling teeth as the communication back and forth took forever with the delayed response on their part! Again, I had to request the shipping label as this is not my mistake! Keep in mind still no apology even if it was an honest mistake. I shipped the damage item back and once I sent that email confirming it's on its way NEVER did I hear back from them. Now I have NO wallet and NO money! I also got conformation the delivery was completed few days after shipping. I obviously had to launch a complaint through PayPal thank goodness I have that protection. Its been over 1 month and still no resolution with means No wallet and NO money back! I have read other reviews about this small business in Vancouver and the owner is cold and calculative in his responses. Seems like this behavior is normal! The store offers such a great selection of quality made, and fun to wear clothing for sleeping, lounging, and so much more, for women, men, and children. I first discovered Hatley sleep and lounge wear products here in Burnaby, via another retail store handling some of their offerings. My lady and daughter have enjoyed several of my purchases as gifts for birthdays, holidays, and some buys made just for those 'thinking-of-you', and for the 'fun-of-it' times. The long, sleeping and lounging shirts, down booties, and such sure lend well to those last two occasions! The Hatley store in Victoria was the first time I had actually seen a full-range of their products displayed and sold in their own store - and wow, what a difference - so much to see and be able to consider. And such great fun for the three of us to browse through all the colourful and amusing designs. On our most recent visit (late-April), I took note of some great potential gift ideas for them (a couple for me too!) for upcoming events. A fine little shop, with friendly and helpful service. It was a little pricey but after talkng to Khloe she said well if you dont try it on you'll never know! So i gave it a go and it was just as beautiful on as it was on the hanger. So I splurged.
