I'm a little torn for how to put this review up. As with most Fabric-lands, it appears there's always 2-3 really amazing, kind staff, but the rest are SUPER snippy and the manager does nothing to contribute to good customer service. This location has a great selection of cotton fabrics for my purposes, so it's become my go-to location to find something that suits my needs. I just wait for a nicer staff to deal with so I don't feel the need to just drop everything and walk out the door. I was priced incorrectly twice at this location, after being given a bit of a spiel about how I should get the membership and shop for regular price fabric instead of looking at the sale section. And then she told me that I am settling for patterns just because of the price when I could pick other fabrics that are nicer. I've heard this same comment from another elderly staff before but she was saying it in a very nice way and as actual advice on my projects (which she took time to understand). This time, this younger staff was saying it more of a judgement. I had half a mind to tell her to mind her own beeswax and buzz the heck off. Who is she to say that? I don't settle for fabric. If I don't like anything, I just simply don't buy anything. And I choose the end pieces because I make very small accessory projects that just need a pop of colour. I can't imagine wanting to really come back, but they do have the better/cleaner store compared to many that I frequent. Just wait around for a nicer staff... Fabricland needs to do something with their employees and Management! there is one specific woman - white older lady (Sharon or or Sue) white hair, thin and extremely rude. She sees me come in - which could be every other day and she sees me coming and leaves. Because I asked her to help me once upon a time and she would not. She is lazy and rude and talks about good paying customers right in front of them. I said something to the cashier and she is overweight, lazy and could care less. RUDE, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE and LAZY so, I went to the one in Vaughan....when I googled the location, I saw a review that a Chinese woman complained and it was published. Was about two white women EMPLOYEES complaining that Chinese spread Covid. The Management, fired the two long time employees and hired all people of colour. As I walked in, was ignored and walked to the drapery department - The West Indian employee saw me - closed her eyes like she was taking a cat nap and ignored me standing there. I didn't say a word and left for someone else to help me. My point is that Fabricland may think they are doing the right hiring but they should take a real look at customer services skills. I hate Fabricland. They're the Walmart of fabric stores. They're a necessary evil, unfortunately, due to their accessibility and affordability. Not everybody (me included) can afford to shop at independent fabric retailers regularly. If at all possible, choose a smaller business such as That Sewing Place on Bayview or The Quilt Store on Leslie. Huge difference in service and quality. The staff at this Fabricland location are especially rude. I don't know how they've managed to hire only rude, condescending, occasionally downright inappropriate staff. It's a bit shocking, honestly. I sometimes have to go here because it's close to where I live and is therefore convenient when I run out of a thread colour for example. If I could avoid it forever I would. The weird, uncomfortable jokes from cashiers as well as outspoken staff in some of the worst ways -- parenting advice? You work at a fabric store, save it. Just experienced my first discrimination experience. We had a helper named Sue L. Very very rude. Everytime we asked her questions she said "I don't know". This happened maybe 4-5x until I finally said "we'll that's why we're asking". And she replied "I know I know I know". We were asking questions such as "is there another 4.5 meters, how many meters are available, do you happen to know this shade of colour". Instead of replying "I don't know" she could have just said "let me find out". She was very snappy when my mom tried to help and rudely said "don't touch it" twice. Very unkind and respectful. While I understand that my mom shouldn't have tried to help by touching the material there is a nice way of saying things. When a white woman was standing behind us she was very nice and said "I will be right there with you ma'am". Never once referred to us as Ma'am. Also when my mom tried to explain we wanted the material for sarees (a cultural outfit) she cut her off by saying "I know" but didn't seem to understand what the material was for after. When I asked the cashier at the front for Sue's last name so that I could email customer service, she said she "didn't know her last name" and didn't even try to find out. and then when I told her I felt disrespected and that Sue wasn't very helpful she said "well she doesn't know and there was nobody else to help you". I told her there was (as somebody helped the older Caucasian women behind us) but the cashier said "well there weren't 3 people to help you". At no point did the cashier validate our experience or apologize for the disrespect. Instead she gave excuses and ended up being rude because she ended it with saying "is there anything else you want me to know?". When I came outside my dad said that he was trying to get help from another employee in there and they ignored him and walked away. I wonder if all the employees here treat their customers the same or if it's just for people of colour. The worst costumer service I have ever experienced ! Absolutely rude and disrespectful employees, I had a question since it was my first time and it seemed like it was such a hassle and I was like a burden. I asked to See something and got shit down no no that wount work, your going to pay xyz for it? Just sooo rude and made decisions on my behalf I wanted something so simple and easy and I had the worst experience ever ! Worth driving somewhere else so turned off! Extremely rude and even one lady who was kind enough to show me a few pieces for shunned by this other lady saying she's not going to like it! Absolutely disgusted by one of their staff members. My mom had gone to this location earlier in the day and had found a particular fabric that she had liked, she wanted to show to it to me before purchasing it. I unfortunately do not get off work until 7:30. By the time we reached this location it was 7:55 PM. All my mom wanted to do was show me the fabric and if I liked it we would have purchased it, this would have have taken a total of 2 mins maximum. As we walked into the store one of the ladies at front yells out "we are closing in 4 mins fyi" (it's actually 5mins) but ok I acknowledged her however i was thrown back at how rudely she said it...I accepted it and proceeded to the spot the fabric was located. The same lady...her name was Karen or Carrie (not sure on this) is literally trying escort us out of the building at this point. I couldn't believe it. She runs over behind us and is once again telling us "we are closing now what can I help you with" in an extremely annoyed and rude tone!! . I got upset and informed her it is now 7:57 PM, and clarified that I heard her the first time. She says "I'm trying to help" ...no clearly you have no freaking clue what helping someone is supposed to be like. As a customer service manager I would never tolerate this kind of behaviour if my employees did this. Treat your customer with respect and they will return, being rude to them and trying to escort them out BEFORE the store closes is not the way. 0 customer service skills here!!! read more

I have shopped at this Fabricland for years now and if I believed some of these reviews I would be very leery of shopping there however I have never had a bad experience there. Is the staff perfect, no but then no one is. Do they want to close the store at the posted time and go home to their families, like the rest of us , Yep I'm sure they do. Do most stores - Walmart, Superstore, etc announce the closing times multiple times before closing, yep they do . Is it possible that peoples watches be off by a minute or two ? Yessiree happens all the time. Do fabrics get moved around and placed back in other spots and thus lead someone to assume that they are priced incorrectly? Definitely happens but then the fabrics are also priced on the end of each bolt which would require the buyer to pay attention. The store is clean and well lit and has a wide selection of fabrics and notions. I'm glad we have access to it in the area as the other two choices in Newmarket are both more expensive and have a limited choice (except for quilting cottons) of fabrics. Worst Fabricland store I've ever stepped foot into. There was only 1 lovely sales lady on the floor and the rest were the rudest bunch of people I've ever met. Even the manager was a piece of work. The staff are super friendly and go out of their way to help me find everything I need. They clue me into deals that are going on and never rush me out. I return here as often as I can, knowing each visit will be a great one. read more
