Are you kidding me?!? This store is 15 minutes from my house and it's so much fun! There's fabric and notions and trim and so much more.

I do not even know where to begin! With each visit to KC I find more reasons to throw more money into their economy. My ancestors would be so proud I have returned to sewing but they would also question why I waited so long. Wish I would have taken my opportunities to learn from my ancestors. I am always on the lookout for affordable fabric. Especially as I am learning this new hobby. One of my spring break goals was to find options for fabric. Found this glorious option. The staff is helpful. My questions were answered with patience and kindness. It was interesting to watch the interactions with the regulars. There are so many options for fabric. I need to have particular projects in mind for next trip to the shop. Without a project in mind it is easy to want to buy everything that is pretty. I got 3 specialized "sliding stencils" for only $8 each.....Still brand new in the sealed package which retails for $19.99 each! I also got a 10" round quilting hoop for only $9.00 (gently used with beautifully smoothed edges). Amazing yarns & threads along with used and new sewing and long arm machines. I absolutely love this store. Granted, I have only been here once, but I love it! It's a consignment store exclusively for sewing and knitting. What could be better than that? Yes, you will find many things that will not interest you, but you will find a couple of treasures for really cheap. On my first visit there, I bought three fabrics, one of which was a lovely twill paisley fabric for $7 a yard. In addition to the nice collection of fabrics, they have a great selection of notions and OOP patterns. The OOP patterns are cheap, most of them just $0.99 and many of them very recent. I also bought some nice sew-in hair canvas, which I have always wanted to use ever since I learned about tailoring. So all in all, I'm very happy this place exists!! read more

I wanted to like this store. I really love the idea of keeping fabric, notions, yarn and other materials out of the landfill. But the woman at the front, who seemed like an owner or manager, was not wearing a mask the entire time. At this point in the pandemic, it is unacceptable. I had high hopes for this store when I found it on the internet. I was not 5 feet through the door when I greeted by a very snotty "YES" and the look from this clerk was as if I was a foul spot she just saw on the floor. I explained that I had brought in fabric I wanted to exchange and the clerk say "you mean donate". I said no, your website said you buy fabric. This very snotty clerk said "Yes we do that also, but you don't have fabric we can use at this time" She didn't even look at the fabric I brought in. I picked up the fabric I had brought with me, and left the store. I have been sewing for more than 50 years and one of my favorite things to do is go to the fabric store. I'd never gone before but hoped to get cute fabrics for some quilts I'm working on. I got above & beyond what I'd hoped for! The prices were good; most fabrics are around $4 a yard, They're all in individual rolls and typically vary from tiny cuts to 5/6 yards. If theres a large roll of fabric you'd like they'll cut off a smaller piece ! Walked out with a couple dozen great pieces. If you make an account with them (just a phone number) when you spend $100 you get 15% off the next visit. Plus the woman working there was super nice. Definitely going again, soon! read more

I love that we have such a great resource here in the KC area! The owner mainly stocks fabric that is in-season, so if you have recycling to do, just be aware of this. The store can be pretty busy and it is a smaller space. This store is very close to Hancock Fabrics which is very handy. I hear that she started to stock some new fabrics for garment sewers--this may only be at the Lee Summit store. There is a larger Fabric Recycles in Lee Summit, too. read more

I love that this is a place that makes a profit keeping fabric out of the landfill. I agree, they need to pay sellers more for what they buy, but just a little bit more; I understand they have labor and overhead costs. I love that I can get a very small quantity of fabric here, which is exactly what I need sometimes. Yes, the music sucks, but I notice that music sucks almost everywhere I go. But with quilt and fabric stores in particular, if you're not at a big box store you usually get only hipster crap or Jesus crap. This store is definitely more hipster crap. I wear earbuds and avoid all the auditory crap. It would be nice if store owners were more cognizant of the impact their crap music choices and volume have on customers. I shop longer and buy more in quiet or silent stores. Oh yeah, back to Fabric Recycles - they have lots of cotton fabric but have added garment fabric also, and they have lots of books and patterns. They also have thread but I've never been interested in used thread of unknown age. The staff is pleasant and helpful if you need help. read more

I love the concept of this store. It's a great idea and certainly one that fits a need. Most everyone seems to have a project, or two, or three in a plastic bag or box they just didn't finish or ran out of interest in. So....I hope they make it, but I think in order for that to happen they may need to take some marketing and customer service classes. My aunt...closing in on 80 years old...has been making beautiful quilted Christmas stockings for grade school children in Joplin. The cost of the materials is so expensive she really cannot afford to keep buying fabric at $10 per yard. She lives in a small town and I deeply admire her determination to try and make this Christmas a little brighter for those little sweet peas in Joplin that lost so much in the tornado. She is a member of some quilting clubs so when I decided it was a good idea to stop by this store I was hoping she would find the perfect solution to her charitable quilting efforts and a place her quilting friends could put on their "must see" list when they come to Kansas City. Here's why my hopes dashed and why I gave 4 stars on this review: It was so hot in the store I thought I was going to faint. My aunt and cousin (also a quilter) were anxious to leave because it was so damn hot in there! The air conditioner was either 1) not working 2) working but the owner was trying to save a few bucks on the electric bill 3) they are trying to kill their customers...whichever, making customers sweat during a shopping experience is not listed under the optimal conditions for repeat business. My aunt was confused by the pay by the pound purchase prices. Quilters operate on a "by the yard" basis not the way they do at the meat market "by the pound." Overall, she didn't think it was such a bargain. She also thought it was interesting that the cheapest quality pieces were the same price as the better qualities. So, our purchase was a small one and I doubt my aunt will mention the place to anybody in her quilting group. What is good? The color coordinating selections which gave the store "eye appeal" and made it easy to find what you're looking for. A great place for beginner's to find fabric, etc. for learning purposes. The frequent shopper bonus program. The location is good and bad. It's easy to find but it's in that "sardine can" shopping center. They must have chosen that location due to it's proximity to Michael's? After reading the reviews I agree with what has been said. I'm thankful the music wasn't on because had I heard what one writer wrote about that would have been my last visit. I cannot imagine a store owner, mother, or any business playing music like that! Hopefully, the owners will read these reviews and take them as constructive criticism and suggestions. I hope they do because I really do want to see them make it. Yay! Fabric options! The choices currently are Hancocks, Joannes, Hobby Lobby. Finally there is a local place to buy fabric/notions/magazines/thread/yarn/random crafty things. This is a buy/sell/trade store so there might not be the eight skeins of yarn you need for your sweater, but there is a fair variety that you have some options. Threads and fabrics are organized by color that is quite efficient. You might just want to check this place before running to the mega store. read more

I will not be returning to this store. Prices are right along the same lines as craft stores, if not more expensive. At craft stores they have coupons and sales at least. Also, if you're buying small amounts of fabric it's much cheaper just to shop the remnant bins at craft stores. Buttons, etc. are also the same price. I was paid $3.50 total for 12 yards of fabric, and the rest they didn't have room for, so I had them "donate" it. I wouldn't be surprised if they went through it again to sell it after I left. The idea for the store is a good one, I just feel that as a recycled store the prices should be much lower, especially with the profit they make. The store was also hot (open the doors or use the AC), and I also had the same issue with profane music. I'll be taking my business next door to Hancock's where I always find good deals, and the shopping experience is much more enjoyable. read more

I also am hoping but not convinced that this shop will be able to stay open. I am not currently living in OP, but this is a shop that I always want to stop in when I visit. The pricing is a bit odd, with most fabric sold at the same price per ounce. It makes lightweight cotton a pretty good deal, if you find quilt shop quality or vintage, but flannels figure out to be about retail. Also, the measures are not standard. Instead of expressing it as a length of fabric by the width from selvedge to selvedge, sometimes it is reversed. You don't know if you are buying a yard of 44" wide fabric or a yard and a quarter of 36" wide fabric. (which would be vintage and perhaps not suitable for all projects). The pattern prices seem high to me. These days you can generally find most brands on sale for way less than this shop prices. And, there is no guarantee that all the pieces are in the envelope. But, I like a treasure hunt, so I look forward to visiting when I am in town. read more

Don't waste your time or effort taking your unwanted fabric here for resale. You'll be much better off to go directly to a donation center and taking the tax write off. I brought 12 huge garbage bags of fabric and after I uinloaded all of it and waited over 2 hours they told me that they couldn't use it as most of it was winter fabric. I took it in on Jan 19th. I'm sorry I wasted my time there. read more
