Although I didn't find my rating to be too harsh, Kathy was extremely kind! Her hospitality and the delicious flavours warrants a 5 star rating for fable! read more

Obviously, the food is great, but I'm giving 3 stars because of the ambiance. This location used to be a place called the Reno cafe, and I loved every bit of it. Whatever was going on in the world it felt good to step into this little bubble of frozen time for some coffee and pancakes, or a plate of Liver and Onions. The decor looked like 3 decades worth of interior design layered on top of each other. There was history trapped in the space like leaves that collect in the corners of parking lots and alleyways. Of course, that's all gone now. The Brand New Fable Diner is nice and clean. The food is great. It's sure to impress your friends. It's a restaurant, a great one, like all the other great restaurants in Vancouver, and every minute I was there I was trying not to forget what it looked like before it all disappeared. read more

We had breakfast today at Fable Diner. Actually, we had dinner here a couple of weeks ago, and my husband ordered the Truckers Breakfast for dinner and I had the pulled pork sandwich (which was delicious). Based on the great dinner, we came back for breakfast. We both ordered the Truckers Breakfast which includes everything: eggs, potatoes, toast, pancakes and sausage, and jam. It was very good. The potatoes were a little greasy, but I think that's the idea of a Truckers breakfast. The sausage patty was really good and I don't usually love breakfast sausage. The eggs were done just to my liking. Overall, a solid breakfast choice. We will definitely be back! read more

Worth waiting in line for. I'd happily eat their potato rosti and thick cut bacon every day. Service can be a bit patchy when they're at their busiest, but the staff are great and obviously working their butts off. Bonus star for the cook with the beard and glasses... if you see him in the kitchen you know your meal will be up fast and flawless. read more

I had a breakfast there recently and was truly blown away by the quality of ingredients and the knowledge of the staff. Delicious, Keto-friendly and such a bright, welcoming space. I'll be going back regularly! read more

My friend and I ate at Fable yesterday. We ordered a milkshake, vegetarian eggs Benedict, French toast and a side of bacon. Definitely some good but also some bad. Good: the thick cut bacon was amazing! Worth the $5. Also really liked the French toast, and the potato rosti we added to our Benny was great. The bad: the milkshake was supposed to be a coffee shake but had very little coffee flavour and just tasted like heavy cream. The eggs Benedict would have been lovely if not smothered in the worst hollandaise I've ever tried. Thick, gloopy, basically the texture and taste of mayonnaise. Possibly this is just a preference, but my friend agreed too. For the price I expected it to be superior quality. Edit: Thank you for your response, I will be sure to notify my server in the future. Any concerns we had were addressed- such as the eggs being poached soft when we had asked for medium- we were brought a new egg. Service was attentive and I will be back, I will just get my hollandaise on the side. read more

I came in today for an early dinner. From the look on the outside of their door, it seems like they'd have a nice, large menu with a variety of items (like any good diner should!). When I was seated, I was given one thin wrinkled, stained pamphlet sized single piece of paper with expensive prices, bad choice of options for myself as a vegetarian/someone with dietary restrictions, and confusing descriptions throughout the menu with no explanation. "Tomato Soup" Description: Griddled sourdough and cheddar" (No mention of the sandwich in the title, no mention of the soup in the description?) Rosti, kewpie, BPJ, crispy business? All this jargon without explanation for the average customer. Less info given than your average tweet. Because of the overall tiny and confusing menu, I ended up ordering "Roasted & Smoked Mushrooms", which from any other place, especially a diner (which I associate with sandwiches/toast ect), I would expect it to be a mushroom sandwich. I ended up with an $8 plate of overly chewy, hard to cut small plate of mushrooms. Only mushrooms. (With two pieces of arugula! Garnish! and sesame seeds) Because of the description: "BPJ, arugula, crispy business" I asked what the heck BPJ was. Black pepper jam, because that's obvious. I asked the waiter if PBJ might be spicy (which sadly due to health issues, I'm supposed to avoid). I wasn't given a clear answer, just that "well it's not like /chili/ spicy". Turns out, it was more spicy that I am supposed to eat without causing me future discomfort. It also had sesame seeds all on it, which aside from something me and others with my digestive condition are, again, supposed to avoid, there was literally no mention of it on the menu, which raises concerns for folks with allergies to sesame seeds and possibly other ingredients that aren't listed that people may not be aware of until it's already ordered. Positive: I had a bite of the fries the person I was with ordered, they were good. Writing a bad review is extremely unusual for me. Usually there's always something good I can enjoy about my eating experience, but honestly this was one of the worst restaurant items I've ever ordered. :/ Not impressed with this very gentrified establishment that used to be the site of $4 breakfasts. You can get a cup of lemonade here for that price. read more

This place consistently delivers. Their high quality and creative menu is always on point. Friendly staff, awesome decor, cool vibe.

Great Milkshakes and Brunch. Service could be a little quicker but otherwise fantastic! read more

Great food, but ruined by slow and inattentive service. We were told there was a 5 minute wait for a table, and waited 25 without a word of apology or an adjustment to the estimate. That is a good indication of the kind of service we got, overall... drinks that took 25 minutes, plates that weren't cleared away, payment left sitting for over 10 minutes until we frantically waved the server away from her chat with an employee at the bar, etc. The music was playing way too loud for comfort. It was difficult to converse. I will not be going back. read more

This place is the best! Love their milkshakes, burgers and FD poutine! Once you been there, you will want to go back more often . The mini doughnuts are supreme, must save some room for them! read more

This is the cutest diner around Vancouver main st area. I was looking for a comfortable environment where I could have a nice lunch with my friend. I came across this dinner, the food is delicious, and the milkshakes are to die for ! I loved the peanut butter chocolate milkshake. I also enjoyed their buttermilk and ranch chicken burger. I would recommend trying this place out if you love milkshakes and yummy food. read more

After walking around Main St and Broadway area, we almost rushed downtown to find something good to eat. I reminded my Mom about the new restaurant next door, and even though it was packed, we went in! I was glad we did, the food was delicious, so we were happy we know we can go back and look forward to what ever it is we order next! We ordered the Ketchupless Cottage Pie, and the Korean (I think) Chicken Leg, Specialty Diner meals... the quality and prices, plus the service, you can't go wrong! The staff were all so friendly. However, one of the waitresses commented on how well we cleaned our plates off, lol, I think it's because we shared the last half of our plates. Great job, and welcome to the Neighborhood! read more

I'm not one to usually write reviews but I felt that I needed to share the incredibly positive experience that my partner and I had at Fable Diner. We were greeted immediately and sat at the bar. The server was very attentive but not invasive. We had the gnocchi and the Reno Burger. Both were delicious! We were going to the mini doughnuts but because they ran out, they gave us the lemon parfait for free! It was incredible!!! Like a parfait style lemon meringue pie with a surprise of ice cream in the middle. THEN they found one last batch of mini doughnuts and ended up giving those to us for free as well! They were delicious, they tasted like they had some pretzel-like flavour to them which worked really well with the cinnamon sugar and delicious caramel sauce. The manager and server were so friendly and chatted with us and because of the confusion, they discounted our meal as well. Couldn't have been happier with the food and service. We will definitely be back!!!! read more

I love diners, but I didn't love this one. For the price of the items, I would have expected higher quality or larger quantities. I felt like we were paying for the neighbourhood and decor and the opportunity to be in a hip diner, but the food is pretty average. I had the fable burger with the sauce on the side--without the fable sauce, the meat itself is quite dry and bland. The fries are good if you like them super salty (I do). We had apple pie for dessert, which was fine but nothing to write home about. I do like the decor and ambience. The service is also friendly. But I didn't find the food particularly exciting. read more

I love Diner food and finally made it to Fable recently and so glad that I did! Lots of places have attempted to create the modern Diner experience, but Fable manages to do it very well. So many things on the menu looked great, and I opted for my main weakness, the Burger. This one was made from grass fed beef and cooked medium well, which is the most they can get away with under local health regulations. It was perfectly cooked and the bun was just right. This is a burger that isn't too small, but still fits in your mouth so you can look civilized while you eat it. At the same time, the beef flavour comes through. It was delicious. The fries, which I was told are soaked in vinegar prior to cooking, were good, but they would be better if they were twice fried. Still, I had no trouble eating them. My companion had the fried chicken which I could easily become addicted to. Spicy, crunchy and just about perfect. Service was good but a little on the slow side; someone was being trained so maybe that's why. I can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu! read more

Delicious food and excellent service; they were very accommodating with my niece's picky eating. The marinated zucchini salad is amazing as is the chicken leg. I don't even like tomato soup but I love theirs. Oh the bacon....Very reasonably priced for locally sourced food. read more

Come here for brunch! Love the Benny and roast duck pancakes. The hashbrown that comes with the Benny is amazing. Great service and nice location with sunny spots by the window. The milkshake is good but pretty overpriced at $8 - don't think it's worth it. read more

I keep coming back to this restaurant. Every time it is consistently fantastic. Breakfast, freshness, creative flavor combinations integrated into comfort food, OMG so good. If you are ok with a possible wait in line you won't regret coming here and you will probably keep coming back. read more

Amazing food. Get the bacon! Couldn't be happier. Both folks left full and happy. Aside from the Bloody Mary, which was terrible. 2nd worst Bloody Mary I've ever had. 1st worst was made with Clamato. Fable's was bad but not quite that bad. read more

Enjoyed it much better the second time around. Great service and avo toast! Wish they had an espresso machine and maybe one weekday benny...

Portions are okay here. Depends on what you get. A little on the pricier end of things. But the ambiance is interesting. A 1950's kind of feel. Service is decent. Recommended to try. But I'm not sure I'd recommend this place as a place you'd come back to again and again. read more

I've never written a review on Yelp where I didn't actually try the food but here it goes. I was really looking forward to trying Fable Diner on Broadway but was disappointed with their frontline staff. It was really strange how they're open all day (unlike the other location on 4th) but they told me to stand and wait for 10 minutes because they were switching menus. The diner was not full and empty tables were staring at me but nope, the menu switching in the kitchen apparently stops them from letting people sit down and look at the menu - go figure. By the way, their waiting area doesn't have seats so that's not helpful for seniors, disabled people, etc. I got a response from them about the menu switching on Twitter and they said they have to "switch over the line #gottabedone". Still doesn't get it, oh well. #thereareotherplaces read more

Delicious and creative. Excellent service. Love the Benny and the hash was a gourmet feast. Been a couple of times and will be back

I AM OBSESSED with their MILKSHAKES! They make their own nutella whip cream, I mean come on. Their fries are good but not my favorite. I love the gnocchi, a fable staple that is delicious and really sticks to the ribs. The duck pancake looks amazing, want to try ASAP. Had a grilled cheese and tomato soup last time that was pretty satisfying. Had the mac and cheese once and it was nothing to write home about. read more

The roast duck pancake is awesome. It sounds like it shouldn't work: a pancake with roast duck, housemade kimchi, toasted rice, and a barrage of other odd flavors. However, with your first bite, take your time and let the flavors coalesce. It's strange, but it totallys works. My wife got the grilled cheezus and tomato soup, and we shared the butterscotch pot de creme. Everything is excellent! read more

Been wanting to go here for ages. And my goodness it did not disappoint what so ever. The drinks, and food were incredible. I particularly enjoyed the chick peas fritters. The balance of the fritters pickles onion, pea shoots and curry sauce were divine. My main was the gnocchi and my goodness fable knows how to do gnocchi. It was fresh and light, the pea pesto and tomatoes mix well for a bright gnocchi that isn't heavy or rich. THROUGHLY enjoyed my meal will be back no doubt. read more

Waited 5 mins to get sit down. No line. We saw empty tables. Once we sat down, no waitress came by for another 10 minutes to ask if we were ready to order. Once we got a chance to wave a waitress in she immediately said I will get your waitress even though she was the one serving us from the start. And then i saw her walking towards another waitress who was just chi chatting at the bar to come serve us. Once we got our orders in, they were Zucchini salad, fried chicken burger, max and cheese, and meat loaf, the food came in just an hour! Once our food came in. The Mac and cheese was underwhelming, they looked and tasted like kraft dinner. And meet loaf was the worst part, it was extremely dry and salty! I do have one good thing to say though, the fries from the burger tasted great! We were very honest about the food when a server came to ask and they took my meat loaf away and then someone else asked if we would like to order something else. Given it took almost an hour for our food to arrive, I politely declined. They were Nic enough to offer us free dessert though but the overall experience was unimpressive. read more

I took my elderly mom here the day before Mother's Day for a late brunch. I work in customer service this dining experience was perfect. My mom was having trouble hearing me so I asked the staff if the music could be turned down and they smiled and said yes. They turned the music down promptly. They checked on us twice to make sure our food was okay and we had everything we needed. My mom had a lovely stress free and I have to add very tasty meal made with love. My meal was excellent as well. My mom left with a smile and I did too. Fable made our early Mother's Day brunch exceptional. My mom doesn't get out as much as she used to this so this was a special occasion. I will be back and I will recommend this restaurant to everyone. Treating my mom so well meant everything to me. Thank you Fable. read more

Just discovered this awesome diner in the hood. Came here to try the amazing milkshake combinations my friend told me about. Had the strawberry shake with Nutella whip and salted cereal. I really enjoyed the combination of flavors and textures- salty and sweet, fruity and chocolate, creamy and crunchy. Sitting at the counter, I couldn't resist the 6 layer chocolate cake on display. Served with Nutella whip, it also had a nice balance of not being overly sugary and had a hint of salt. Cake wasn't as moist as we would have liked though. The rainy day kept me in the diner and decided to have the Grilled Cheezus with onion jam and tomato soup. Perfect rainy day combo and the tomato soup was on delish. My friend had the Reno burger, protein style wrapped in lettuce. They sure didn't skimp on the lettuce. Looked like a full head! Service was very good and had a great time at the counter with Paige (Happy birthday!!! ), Alex, and Paul. Great servers, atmosphere, decor, diner food and an amazing amazing milkshake-even on a rainy day! Will definitely be back soon read more
