Y'all, it's a $10 haircut. Extremely democratic pricing: It's $10 whether you're male, female, child, non-binary, which I love. I just have a simple undercut around my head cut with the 1.5 setting on an electric razor and it really rips my nips when haircutting places charge me extra for a "women's cut" even though my cut is simpler and faster than most "men's cuts". (I'm looking at your, Supercuts -- they quoted me $23 for the exact same cut!) The ladies here know what they're doing and stay in their lane. Have common-sensical expectations. You don't go to Kansas and order the seafood platter. If you have high maintenance hair, this ain't the place for you. If you're just looking for a simple cheap cut done efficiently and decently, step right in. Folks mention the ticket machine payment system. I quite like. Reminds me of the ramen shops in Japan. Brought both my boys here today for their haircuts, ages 13 and 11. Great experience. I read all the past reviews so I knew what to expect. We were a little disappointed when the ticket machine returned my $12 in change. It held in the change slot and didn't spew all over the floor, so not as exciting as in the reviews. I prepped both boys to tell their barbers how they wanted their hair cut and both were able to communicate clearly and both barbers seemed to be very competent, using razors and scissors. No talking, just very focused and efficient, taking about 10-15 min each. No line and minimal wait on a Sat morning around 11:30am. We'll be back! read more

I went here because the good reviews on Yelp. I truly wanted to make this my go-to place, since I just moved to Mountain View and their price was affordable at $10 per haircut. Unfortunately, my experience was horrible. My hair was cut by some guy (I didn't get his name). I gave him clear and simple directions: 1. Fade the side with a 1" clipper 2. Don't cut the hair on top because I am growing it out. 3. Re-do the "hard part" that was already created on the left side of my hair. I even showed him a picture of how I wanted my hair via phone. He quickly glanced at it for maybe one second (I'm not sure if he even paid attention to it). He began fading the sides very quickly (I had no problem with that), but then ended up cutting the hair from the top of my head that was overhanging the sides, the hairs that I specifically told him NOT to cut. Normally, stylist/barbers either comb or clip it out of the way. Then, after he finished, he asked if I wanted to cut the hair on the top (which he had already shortened while he was doing the fade). I clearly specified "no," and to NOT EVEN trim it, as I was growing it out. So he began combing my hair. He then quickly reached for his scissors and proceeded to cut that hair anyways! I quickly stopped him, but not before he already cut some of it off. I'm giving one star because the guy cutting my hair refused to follow directions. Furthermore, his attitude gave the impression that he did not want to be there, which made me feel pretty unwelcome as a customer. I definitely will not be coming here again! read more

Very friendly staff. For $15, you will get a beautiful and simple haircut. You need to register on the site in advance and book the desired time. The room is always very clean and bright. Disposable gloves and a cape are used. The equipment is sterilized. I have been using it for several years. If you suddenly see that the hair is somewhere longer by a couple of millimeters, then leave your complaints in the salon, where you will be cut for $$70-100 per hour. I mean...on the one hand, they are not good at cutting hair. On the other hand, it's only $10. You really get what you pay for. I think maybe they're only ok with men's hair? I have long, wavy hair, and they don't have a hair washing station. They do have a spray bottle with water, but I guess they decided water was a precious resource because they only squirted water on the bottom-most couple inches of some parts of my hair. Since my hair is wavy, this obviously means my hair was not cut straight. I was 99 % sure that they hadn't managed to do a good job, and then when I washed my hair later that night, I became 100 % sure of it. There are clumps of longer strands, and even the hair that's mostly the same length is kind of oddly jagged. So I will most definitely not ever be going there again; they're absolutely incompetent at cutting women's hair. But it's hard to get too upset, because I'm not sure what I was expecting for $10, and the woman was nice. read more

Its perfect for us as we prefer minimalism in the hair dresser setting. I personally like this place because I can be myself here and because of the diversity of clients. I asked to take about an inch off all around, and after she made the first snip she showed me the cut off piece to confirm that it was the right amount. I have been taking my 2.5-year-old son here since Spring 2014. We have been here for 3-4 since May, and we've always gotten the haircuts from Diem, the lady using the middle seat (there are three seats in total). We like her, and she does a really good job with my son's hair. Before finding this place, I'd taken my son to some of the high star review, high dollar sign barbershops in Palo Alto and Los Altos including the fancy places for kids only. Our experiences in those places involved lots of crying on my boy's part, and financial and emotional dissatisfaction on my part. I can't be happier with F8 Quickcuts. It is on our way home from preschool. In most cases, I took my son there after a school day. He doesn't resist the idea of getting a haircut anymore. The whole experience is simple and straightforward. Diem is kind and friendly, and doesn't push hard to make conversations, which I appreciate. Good positive energy, not fake friendliness. As for the haircut, she is really good at using the electric razor hair clipper as well as the scissors. She cuts my toddler's hair according to my instructions, and she always leaves me satisfied. I sit on the chair first. My toddler sits on my lap. (There are also toddler booster seats available.) Both of us wear nylon haircut capes. Childrens' cape is colorful with some cartoon characters on it, which nicely distracts my kid. At the end, Diem gives a lollipop to my toddler with my permission. The haircuts we got at F8 get a lot of compliments. She not only listen to my cues but also uses her experience to give the most flattering cut to my son so that his head shape looks its best. After seeing my son's good haircuts one after another, finally my husband gave in, and stopped going to his expensive (~$30-35 + tip) barbershop, and started using F8 Quickcuts as well. To sum, it's a good place for guys to get a haircut. Take your kids there with confidence, or go there if you are a guy who simply wants to get decent, good quality haircuts. Don't go there if you are a woman (even with very short hair. If you have short hair and want great hair cut, go to L salon in San Mateo and ask for Leann.) or if you are a man with very specific demands and high expectations (such as precision haircut and styling etc.) Serving to really demanding customers is against their business model, and they indirectly tell you that. I got a haircut there (I have a ton of shoulder length hair) to get my broken ends trimmed, and it wasn't great. But I was warned. So, it's not their fault. As a woman, you can't expect to pay $8 and get an overall trim with great razor cut layers. Setting the expectations wrong and then giving bad reviews to them is not fair. read more

Given my philosophy of haircuts, cheap is definitely good. $8 is about the best price for a haircut in the area. There are other places that offer haircuts for $8, which brings me to point #2 for why I prefer F8. It's fast! Speed is paramount. I squeeze haircuts in when I have 15 minutes to spare on my way home from work, or 15 minutes in between appointments on the weekend. My brother and I have been getting our hair cuts here for almost a year now. My brother stays mostly at home while I'm at work, and he's pretty frugal. This place is great for him because: a) he can walk there himself during the day so I don't have to drive him b) it's only 8 bucks! This place is great for me because: a) it's quick enough to not have to plan for it; I literally decided to get a haircut today while waiting at a traffic light 2 min from home b) it's only 8 bucks! There's usually only one barber when I go, and she always remembers me and how I want my hair cut. She's relatively quiet but friendly enough. After the initial "how do you want your hair cut?" she just gets right to it and doesn't proactively check-in to see what you think until she's done. Like I said - fast. It's not always done to my exact liking, but it's good enough. If I were a more vocal person I would just be more specific from the start, but since I'm more timid I just sort of let things be. Some people claim "horrible service" but I've never witnessed this. More often, I've witnessed customers with an unwarranted sense of entitlement. Maybe they expect/demand more accommodations and waiting on their every thought/opinion, but to them I say: You're only paying 8 bucks! Let's see how excessively enthusiastic and obliging you are for 8 dollars. Anyways. In summary, if you don't want to deal with blocking out time for a haircut, this place fits the bill. This place is NOT for me. I was in a bind yesterday when I came here because the normal lady that cuts my hair is out of town for a few weeks. I decided to give this spot a shot based on all of these great reviews on Yelp. I'm thoroughly unimpressed. I figured this place would be OK since it's on my way home from work, has good reviews, and obviously cheap at $8 a pop. I normally pay $30 for my haircut, so this was a new concept to me. When I get there, yea the money taking machine is a funny/cool concept, but then you have to wait 5 minutes for it to spit out 12 individual dollar bills. Ok, I can easily get past that. There was nobody else in there (4pm) so I was seen right away by Diem Nguyen (at least that was the name I saw on the beautician's license). Let me start by saying that my hair is relatively easy and straight forward to cut. I have a typical Asian guy haircut...shaved number 1 on the bottom, high fade, trim the top, round the edges. BOOM. Easy as pie right? Wrong. OK I'll give her credit for starting off well. She did the bottom decently, but totally messed up when it came to the top and fade. She attempted the fade and cut the top with scissors. When she was "finished", I was like there is NO WAY she can be done because it was the most CROOKED and UNEVEN haircut I have ever seen in my life. She stopped and showed me the mirror. I was politely told her TWICE that she needed to even it out on the top and sides. She attempted to do so. I decided to cut my losses and just leave. I even gave her a tip. I got home and had to do 30 minutes of damage control with my wife straitening out the top and sides with a small pair of clippers. All in all, it turned out decent now. I can't wait for it to grow out so I can go and get a new, better hair cut somewhere else. I'm not saying that all of these great Yelp reviews before mine are lies or wrong. Like everyone says, right when you enter the door you pay for a ticket. Kind of like the ticket self-service kiosks at AMC Theaters. Haircuts or tickets, are $8. If you feed the machine more than $8, for example inserting a $20, you'll find yourself playing $12 in singles pick-up off the ground. I don't see this as a negative, I feel it's a fun game before you get your haircut. Haircuts are no longer than 15 minutes and the barber (always an Asian lady) always cuts my hair the way I like. They're cheap, they're open on Sundays, and the first few times my husband came here, they did a passably good job. Not a great job, but passably good. Got the hair out of his eyes. Last time, though--oh my god. He came home looking like he had a comb over, despite having a full head of hair. The cuts were jagged and uneven. It looked like a four year old had gone at his hair with safety scissors while their mom wasn't looking. It was BAD. When he entered the front door of our apartment after the haircut, I took one look at him, and said, "Dude. You have to stop getting your haircuts from a vending machine, and start paying more for someone who knows what they're doing to cut your hair." First, I (male, 50s) am not terribly fussy about haircuts and don't like to spend much $ on them. I walked in today around 11:45 and only had to wait about 5-6 minutes. It had been about 4 months since my last haircut and my hair was getting pretty long and bushy. I gave her a quick idea on what I wanted (front length at eyebrow, at top of ear, certain length in back, thinned out) and in about 12 minutes she was done. She used regular scissors, thinning scissors, and some light razor work on sideburns and neck, followed by a short blow dry with cool air. Price was $8 and I left a decent tip since she was quick and did a good job. What's unusual is that right at the entrance is a machine where you pay $8 for the haircut and you get a ticket. This ticket is your receipt and your wait order. I plan on returning sooner than 4 months. read more

Definitely the least expensive and most ridiculous haircut venue I've been to. Upon entry, you are greeted by something that looks approximately like a dollar change machine. You tap its touchscreen to tell it you'd like to buy a ticket for a haircut, then it requests you insert money. After doing so, it proceeds to print a ticket for your haircut with an "order number" on it, then any change is dispensed via one dollar bills to a slot whose plastic flap simply is not up for its task of retaining your bills in said slot. As a result, when you insert your $20 bill, you promptly find yourself on your knees, groping for TWELVE one dollar bills that have spewed out of the machine and all over the floor. On the plus side, you kinda feel like you just won cash at a slot machine. And if you find yourself waiting for your haircut while another customer arrives at the machine, it's definitely more entertaining to watch than reading one of the magazines. As far as the haircuts, I have been here twice now and have gotten the fastest haircuts ever. No shortcuts or details missed, just pure efficiency. After asking what I want, the hairdresser uses clippers for the sides of my hair, then a spray bottle & scissors on top, and finally cleans up the sideburns/ears/neck with clippers. 10 minutes later and it looks totally solid -- nothing special, but exactly what I wanted. Don't expect any extra frills like hair gel. And there's no random conversation during the cut, which I actually prefer. The only downside about this place is if there are a number of people ahead of you, you might be waiting for a little while, since there has only been 1 hairdresser there both times that I've gone. She did say they have more than 1 hairdresser on the weekends, though. A related annoyance is that there is no "Now Serving" sign that shows which ticket number is up -- the ticket machine just shows the last ticket number it printed, which isn't useful at all. All in all a fantastic deal if you are looking for a basic haircut. Just don't forget to leave a nice tip! read more

But I just wanted to take my 2 boys (5 and 7 years old) somewhere inexpensive, since their haircut is pretty basic and they don't really care about how they look. But unfortunately I thought it wasn't even $10 worth. There was only 1 hairdresser working, we waited for over 45 min and the results were tragic. She was even very annoyed and impatient that my 5 year old was moving his head a little (I promise you it wasn't too bad, nothing he hadn't done before in all his life getting haircuts, but I've never seen that reaction from a professional).
