Beware of signing up with this gym unless you want to likely pay a large lump sum to get out of a contract you didn't even know you were in. Many reviews have complained about this across Austin locations.
Initially, I wanted to pause because I was going to focus on a strengthening program for my back, which I am in PT for, and sometimes F45 workouts exacerbate the pain. It didn't make sense to pause because you still pay $15 and it's only 3 weeks, so then I asked to cancel. You may expect to pay an extra month when cancelling gym memberships because it's impossible to get billing timing right, but I did not expect to be charged $450 to pay half of a 6 month contract I didn't even know I was in.
Beware:
1. You will not receive the initial contract you signed when joining this gym and cannot find your contract anywhere online or general terms for the gym. They will only send the contract to you when you're trying to cancel your membership to prove it's OK to charge excessive cancellation fees.
2. You will not get an email letting you know when your membership started.
3. The app will not tell you when your membership started or when it may renew. They say the app is only for scheduling, but there's no reason not to state your term other than they don't want you to know.
4. You will receive ZERO COMMUNICATION from them regarding a renewal of 6 MONTHS for an roughly $1000 contract (apparently not month-to-month after the initial contract), nothing reminding you it's about to renew, nothing reminding you your 30 days notice to terminate is coming up. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
5. You will receive ZERO COMMUNICATION or confirmation that they have entered you into a new 6 MONTH, roughly $1000 contract. You can't find any information about anything being renewed online and can only find out they've renewed you for 6 months by reaching out to the specific gym you belong to.
6. There is no box you can uncheck when signing up or later in a portal to cancel the auto renew or even change your billing info.
7. They're counting on you not remembering / fully knowing you signed up for a membership that auto renews at 6 month increments nearly 6 months later.
The nameless person who would only email (didn't pick up when I called) - said it's up to the member to know their auto renewal. BS. They are making their membership as difficult as possible to cancel and are clearly just trying to take people's money who no longer wish to workout at their gym. While they say this is all legal, these are unethical and predatory practices, and they know what they're doing. There is no reason to charge someone for 3 months they aren't using. There are many reviews across the various locations regarding this issue and other sketchy billing and marketing practices, so beware. They will say it's all legal as their defense, but I will be filing complaints with multiple state and federal agencies to get these unethical, predatory business practices to stop.
While the trainers and members are nice, I'm hearing about a lot of research that says women over 40 shouldn't really be doing these types of workouts. If they aren't working for you, or you feel unusually tired after them, check out Dr Stacy Sims for scientifically based info on how women should workout and why this type of fitness routine isn't necessarily ideal for women over 40. Two weeks away from f45, and my back and energy are feeling much better. read more
