I wanted to love this restaurant. I was craving American food while in Paris so I was ecstatic to find this hot spot. Chef Greg who worked under Jamie Oliver creates beautiful American classics here. It may have been the hot and humid weather, or maybe it was just the food. But I didn't love it. It's an order-at-the register type of place. Very casual and laid back with a cool hip feel. If you want American while abroad, check out this spot. -==FOOD==- They specialize in American food done with a Parisian twist. They have frites as well as fries. I tried the pulled pork, and the hot dog. Both were decent, but both felt dry. To be fair, it may have been because I walked 5 miles to get there. No joke. -==VIBE==- The place is small. Meh. Maybe my experience was soured by the fact that they gave my order (the Reuben) to the guy sitting next to me at the counter and then asked me to take his order (the pastrami), claiming that it's pretty much the exact same thing. The good customer service move would have been to comp a dessert or something, but this is France so... Anyway, if I were a tourist from the U.S. I wouldn't bother with the place since you can probably find something "more or less exactly like it" in the states. The bread was very good. The fries are good if you like them thin (not quite shoestring, but nowhere near classic Belgian fries, which have a better potato-to-oil ratio in my opinion). If you're an expat with a yearning for deli food, I can see coming here. If you're a tourist, go get the special at Le Petit Vendôme instead. My wife and I had breakfast here, we are both pescatarian so we each ordered Eggs Benedict, one w/ spinach and one w/ smoked fish, two cappuccinos, and a cinnamon roll to finish. We had brunch here on a Sunday afternoon - not a whole lot of places are open in Paris on Sundays, so this was a lucky find. It's a very small cafe, ideal for takeaway. Sadly we came too early for sandwiches, they don't serve them until noon. So I settled for eggs florentine with spinach for 10€. But it wasn't really "settling," because it was really a rather nice dish. I loved the abundant spinach, and the hollandaise had great flavor. Sadly, the egg was undercooked for both me and my partner who had the eggs benedict with pastrami. The whites weren't fully cooked, you could see some translucent jiggly parts which put me off a bit. So beware of that - we ate it anyway, and the taste was very good, but texture was off because the egg white wasn't done properly. Also, they don't have decaf coffee, which is disappointing. Cute place to come for a meal, I'd definitely come back for a sandwich sometime! It sounds to me like they're the best things here. read more

It's a hype, that's for sure, people lining up to get in and it was very busy on the inside as well. We came well before the French lunch time, so managed to get a spot. We had ordered pastrami and pulled pork sandwich with a strange coke and some fries. The fries were nice, but not superwarm. Pastrami sandwich was good, but the pulled pork better. Really good! I had a long layover in Paris, so I decided that instead of sitting in the sardine can known as a European airport, it was in my best interests to leave Orly and seek out some food somewhere a little more palatable. I'd fared pretty well the last time I researched out places to eat in Paris during my last trip, and I had hoped that Frenchie to Go would keep that streak going; after all, they boasted gorgeous photos of supposed Parisian hot dogs and other meat products that intrigued me. Although they're probably easiest access on the 3 train at Sentier station, I preferred to not switch trains and just rode the 4 and got off on Réaumur and walked the four blocks. Frenchie to Go is located a hair off of Rue Réaumur down a suddenly quiet alley, and they're not a large establishment in the least bit. The inside probably seats 11-12 people tops, and that's depending on the size of said people entirely. One of the convenient things for Americans and English speakers in Paris I find is that just about every business operator speaks English. Frenchie to Go is no exception, and the guy I dealt with spoke perfect English, and if not for the fact that the transaction was paid in Euros, you could very well tell me we were in like New York and I'd have believed it. I decided to be an American pig and I ended up getting _two_ things, a bacon sandwich as well as the hot dog whose photo caught my attention when I was looking for quirky restaurants in Paris in the first place. The bacon biscuit wasn't as pretty as the hot dog when it came out, but the bacon was thick and meaty, and I gobbled it entirely up without discrimination. The hot dog was as beautifully presented as it was advertised. And I liked the way it was cooked, slightly over, to where the skin breaks and doesn't feel rubbery when you're chewing it. The bread is good itself, but a little hard and chewy, and each bite feels like a workout for the jaw. Admittedly, it's probably too high of a bread ratio, but that could be chalked up to differences with Parisian to American hot dog soggy sponge buns; it does not equate to low quality, however. Overall, I really wanted to like Frenchie to Go more than I actually do, because I had high hopes for an unforgettable meal that I could brag to my American friends about having. The location is aesthetically pleasing and I love places that look like holes in walls. The service was friendly and welcoming. But the place crawls with tourists, and there's nothing more hipster than American tourists being annoyed by the arrival of other American tourists, and then you have to jostle your way out of the restaurant because they're a party of six crowding a table of four. Yes, such a gripe is something out of the restaurant's control, however the food was not; ultimately when the day was over, I had a bacon biscuit and a hot dog. And as good as they actually were, they were still not world-breaking, and my aversion to fellow tourists and crowds kind of made me feel like I maybe should have tried somewhere else in the end. read more

This place has quality ingredients out together in NY style, no doubt influenced by Marchand's time in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I can definitely see the BK influence given I was once a resident of the same neighborhood. The price of Frenchie To Go also makes it an ideal place for revisiting time and again for lunch. I loved Frenchie To Go!!! First, the concept is cool because it can eat-in or take-away. Secondly, I loved the staff...great sense of humor and very kind and generous. Finally...the food!! The Lobster Roll was incredible. I could have eaten three!! Toasted to perfection and loaded with lobster. Paired perfectly with a fresh spring pea, carrot, and mint with a magical dressing and a delicious crisp French white wine was simply heaven on a plate. Frenchie To Go is located near the Sentier Metro and by Montrogueil. The tiny Street is also home to the sister restaurants Frenchie, Bar a Vins, and Caviste. I can't wait to try Chef Gregory Marchand's beautiful cookbook "Frenchie" and dine at Frenchie later this week. The staff is super friendly and kind...which is greatly appreciated. On my second visit, after the disastrous and disappointing experience at Frenchie, I tried the cold pea soup with burrata and chili-infused olive oil which was very filling and delicious. The food was tasty, but totally over-priced. (€3.5 for a bottle of still water!?) My husband read that Ina Garten loved their hotdog, so I was willing to cough up €10 for a mind-blowing "tube steak." It was pretty standard. Also standard was the mildly disdainful Parisian attitude from the woman who took our order. She was friendly enough with the old guy eating fried chicken while smoking his cigarillo at the window bench, and with the young man who seemed to be her boyfriend. With them she seemed quite charming. The ambiance is nice: clean, modern, French rap playing in the background: it's a hipster joint, really. The food is pretty American, fare one could easily find in San Francisco. We deemed this our "worst" meal in Paris because of the price. But, we paid for convenience to our apartment, and for comfort & familiarity with the style of food. The food was good. But now, if I did it over, I'd grab pre-made sandwiches and salads at Erik Keyser or the Franprix market around the corner and picnic at a local park -- better yet, walk 15 minutes and picnic at the Tuileries. read more

So glad I wandered down this little street and found Frenchie To Go. If you are craving a more hearty breakfast as opposed to just a pastry for breakfast I would go here! I ordered a breakfast sandwich on an English muffin (which was really yummy) and a cappuccino. The space is quite small, which may be a little tricky to navigate if you have a large group with you. I heard so many great things about this place, but was very disappointed. I ordered a pastrami sandwich, and my companion a pulled pork sandwich. First the waiter messed up the order. Got braised beef instead of pulled pork, but the waiter insisted that the slices of beef were pork (!). We sent it back and 10 min later we got a new dish; still not pulled pork. We never got our fries, and the waiter was unfriendly and made us feel awkward just for wanting to get what we ordered. It was a busy day, so he was probably pretty stressed, but our experience was really not great. The kitchen was out of almost everything, but luckily (I thought at first) they had pastrami, which was what I wanted. The pastrami was extremely (tongue numbingly) salty, and so though it was hard to eat in a sandwich. I honestly think that the kitchen ran out of food and served pastrami that wasn't cooked for long enough. Being a previous chef, I can imagine that they took a short cut to be able to have anything to sell. Surely, it is not supposed to taste like that. The pulled pork sandwich, when it finally arrived, was delicious. We never got to try the fries. .. The price was quite high, considering the food quality and the unfriendly, sloppy service. I would give a lower rating for my experience, but I believe that the service staff had a bad day (although at that price point for sandwiches, that's barely an excuse). As a surprise lunch for Mother's Day, my husband suggested we try Frenchie To Go. Since we both love "regular" Frenchie, (even though it's almost impossible to get in there and we've been twice --persistence pays!) this is a very casual alternative. The menu here has a pretty American vibe - from breakfast "egg Mcmuffin" type offerings to hot dogs, homemade pickles, Reubens and pulled pork sammies. They also have a few salads for their non-carnivorous friends. A couple of varieties of beer, artisanal sodas (as well as Coke) and coffee round out the menu. Delivery's available and deli meats are sold by the kilo. As a bonus, their vin cave next door is also open on Sunday. Stock up for the week ahead! read more

Not a fan. This was of the more disappointing experiences I've had in Paris. FTG has been recommended on several American tv culinary programs and in several travelogues. I ordered the hot dog menu. It includes a hot dog, choice of side and a drink. I chose coleslaw and a beer. The beer was quite good, Perle I believe. The coleslaw is a vinaigrette beet salad with a topping which seemed to consist of large grain salt and some indistinguishable herbs. I actually like beet salad but this was not a good recipe. The hot dog was also more salty than I prefer, served on a brioche bun which was both undersized and too soft for a frankfurter. All in all, a 14 euro disappointment. read more

But it's fine because I tried the Reuben sandwich and it was probably the best one i have ever had in my life. American and British pub food meets French style with quality ingredients cooked by an Australian chef who is in-training under the famous Gregory Marchand, (chef of the next door, fabulous, Frenchie restaurant). What a treat! I literally at the best bacon of my life which had been cured in house. Magnificent! The porch sandwich was enjoyed by my friend and my husband devoured the tasty fish and chips. Highly recommend, especially if you want good food for less. I believe they close around 4pm so come for lunch. We didn't have time but the wine bar next door has a standing line starting at 6pm with appetizers to die for. I think Marchand must own the whole block. I came in here starving after walking like 10 miles through the Louvre -- so naturally everything tasted amazing... my wife and I had pastrami and the reuben, both with fries, along with beers. The sandwiches were great, better than one could expect for such non-Parisian style food and better than your standard sandwich most places, but not on the level of a pastrami or a reuben you'd get in New York. A 5 star rating would have required more of a French twist, in line with the Frenchie restaurant. That said, the sandwiches were very good imitations of a New York deli style lunch. read more
