This was our second visit to FM Don's. We brought guests this time. Three out of four meals were great. My filet was small, tough and not the usual shape of a filet. When I ordered medium well I was asked if I'd like it butterflied. Not sure if that reflects the inability of the chef to prepare the steak properly, but I'll consider it my mistake for not ordering medium. It was overcooked. The steak did not look like a filet. I've been told that the end cut, or "tail cut" may be what I was served. For $30 I'd expect better. Food came out so fast it makes me wonder if it was pre-plated, not to order. read more

We came here after the great reviews and photos we saw. Being from Chicago we wanted to try every place we could get our hands on... We were seated quickly and the service was friendly albeit untruthful. Part of why we came was because they offered daily drink specials and a happy hour food menu that goes from 1130-6. When I asked if they had any specials we were told "no, everything it special". I don't appreciate being lied to especially since I've been in the industry since I was 16 and had done my homework. The wine was disgusting but I settled on a burger and it was actually pretty good. We left feeling a little indifferent. Perhaps had our server not been a liar (and given her age she's way beyond that stage) our experience here would have been better. I wouldn't run to get here. read more

We had dinner on a two for Tuesday. Both meals were good. Beautifully presented. My husband enjoyed a tall beer and I had a glass of wine that was the "fish bowl" size I pour myself at home, for $6 and change. Really good deal for wine drinkers. We enjoyed it very much. Thought the servers were all friendly. Atmosphere was warm and inviting and everyone seemed comfortable with the regulars at the bar and tables. read more

Today was the 3rd visit to at FM Don's for a late lunch And even though it was crowded we were seated immediately. Each meal was flavorful and well prepared. Our waitress was Tracy on all 3 occasions and we could not have asked for better service. We have never been rushed through a meal. We will return again and highly recommend FM Dons. read more

Thank you for a wonderful meal for the 5 of us. My wife has been on lockdown in memory care at South Port Square for 7 months!. We were celebrating her first outside meal. The food was excellent. Expensive but I knew it would be!the waiter was good, I gave him $40 tip! He was ok but I could not find home when I wanted to pay the bill! Since my wife was in a wheel chair, it was difficult to get to the entrance. The door is not handicap accessible! We had to walk to the garage next door to fine a ramp then ask several patrons eating to move to get by. If I was by myself pushing my wife in the wheel chair it would have been very difficult. So, the food was very good! Getting to the entrance and a seat was difficult. I had to move chairs to get to the table too. The last thing was the loudness of the music set up outside! Unbearable could not have a conversation! I believe the restaurant needs to address these issues before I could recommend it! read more

What an unexpected meal! Who says little Punta Gorda doesn't have great food? My wife and I enjoyed a table full of appetizers including the amazing mussels, blue cheese wedge salad, escargot crustini, shrimp and grits, and ahi tuna. So delicious. Really enjoyed our lunch here. The staff were very nice and attentive. I ordered the onion rings as an appetizer, there were a great price at $5 and very crunchy! The chipotle dipping sauce was really tasty too! For an entree I had the grouper Po boy which was very good the voodoo sauce was tangy and yummy! Definitely enjoyed this as a lunch place! read more

Went on Valentine's night...the Chicken Aphrodite I think was cooked around the same era as Aphrodite...chicken tough overcooked and seemed to be just reheated with spinach and artichokes over (which was the only edible part of the meal for approx $30) The waiter was nice enough and saw that I was not eating the chicken and brought out some "drippings" to pour over the inedible chicken. Apologies were about it as we paid the full bill! No thanks we'll take our business elsewhere! read more

Would have loved to sit outside and enjoy the live music but it was just too hot. The good: caprese salad, chowder, mashed potatoes and scallops were all so so. The bad: the crab cake was the consistency and color of canned tuna. The mahi mahi was bland. The sauces were too sweet for mild fish. There are better places especially for the price. read more

Took my Dad here last night for dinner. We both had the filet mignon. Both were excellent, Dad's cooked a perfect medium rare, mine a lovely medium well. I had the red wine bernaise sauce, and it was sooo tasty. Sides were terrific as well. We split a Tuxedo Bombe for dessert - I had a birthday cake waiting at home for Dad, it's still there untouched! The dining room is nicely done, and we could easily converse. Live music started about halfway through our meal, outside, and we could just barely hear it. All in all, it was a great experience. Was a fan of Jack's we ended up going to F.M. Dons because the Mexican restaurant was closed. The menu is totally redone so no more prime rib. The first order of bread was like eating shoe leather. The food was ok. My arms got tired trying to cut the steak with a butter knife no steak knives we offered. The price was high for not that much food the desert was frozen cake for 8$. For three people and no alcohol and one soda the bill was $100 so probably never going back. read more

Martinis were $4! Great deal, but they were very poor quality. I should have paid double for a better martini. Mussels were just awful!!!! In plain tomatoes and juice. Shrimp appetizer tasted just like the panda express chain shrimp. Really disappointing! ! read more

They lost my reservations, half the menu was not available and the first response we got from our waitress was " I will get to you with I can I have outside tables too". Then the food was cold and under cooked, our waitress could care less and then decided to stand over me waiting for my credit card. By far the worst experience ever and will never return. Nice location. Outside tables make for nice atmosphere, some nights they have live bands which can make for a noisy environment. I haven't eaten inside yet. We had lunch, I had the pastrami on pretzle bread. Very good. Wife had Cesar salad with shrimp. Also good. Very nice presentation. Waitstaff was accomidating and knowledgable. We are out of towners from Chicago and stopped in for lunch. There were 4 adults and 4 children. We have to say the food was EXCELLENT and the service was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed but classy and the outdoor seating was ample. Prices were average and expected. The sandwiches and paninis are quite large as are the childrens' meals. Note: for kids under 4 you may want to split meals. We can't wait to return next year! read more

If I could give less I would... honestly. Have dined here in groups and everything was passable. Nothing stands out... just average. However I dropped in last Thursday for a planned dinner and drinks at the bar only to be entirely ignored by both bartenders. No one greeted me. No one even made eye contact and said "we're a bit busy but we'll be with you in a second." Nothing. Just walked to and fro in front of me and pretended I wasn't there. The male bartender did serve a group of three ladies three lemon drop shots... and they arrived after I had been there for nearly 10 min. So yeah... won't be back.... and when I sat down at Leroy's I heard the same experience from another woman who had also gone there alone. So I'm relieved it's not just me but I'm rather shocked that the bar staff at FM Don's considers single women to be apparently be unacceptable guests. Punta Gorda has lots of other options though... I am well aware of that but perhaps they aren't? read more

Cute! my mom and i stopped in during a road trip and were a little thrown off my the appearance of this place, its a little bit higher scale and dennys...i know, weird description. we shared a turkey panini that was really yummy...fresh turkey with spinach and artichoke dip and caramelized onions. im not sure its worth going leaving your house for but if you are hungry and in the neighborhood im sure you will find something that will whet your appetite and satisfy your hunger. read more

Date night for us last night at FM Dons. I had the lobster special (3 course meal) , and hubby had the bison meatloaf. Both were excellent. One tiny problem, the lobster was a bit watery...but the taste was suburb. Cesar salad to start, and cheesecake to finish. Cheryl was our server, and she was great ! Very knowledgeable and gave us some good suggestions. Only 1 suggestion when we were greeted at the front door....people our age hate to be called "guys", or "good evening guys". This is difficult because I can't help but compare Don's to Jack's. Don's has gone upscale with the Tapas/small plates. I decided on a Shrimp Cocktail and fries for lunch. My friend had Seafood soup and a Cuban sandwich. She enjoyed both. To be fair, I'd have to come in to have dinner to give a better review. I'd LOVE to see Don's bring back the Sweet potato fries!! PLEASE!! I can give the wait staff 2 thumbs up!! Excellent, very accommodating and personable! It's always nice to be able to have a quick conversation with the wait staff. They work very hard! This place was great! We went for a late lunch and it was perfect. Our party of 3.5 (my toddler is the .5) and it was a perfect crowd. The menu was delightful with good prices. My daughter has a severe egg allergy and the waitress was great at going over the menu to find out what she could have. We ordered the baked goat cheese and chicken pâté for an appetizer. They were both delicious and the pâté portion was larger than expected. For entrees we had a Caesar salad with grilled shrimp, seafood calypso soup and the seafood chowder. The Caesar salad had a ton for grilled shrimp and my mom raved about it! I had the seafood calypso soup. I must say that it is so good that I actually dream about it! Absolutely delectable with its creamy coconut broth! My husband ordered the chowder. It was more like a manhattan chowder, which isn't his favorite, but the flavors were there! Now I know why this place is always packed and we will be back soon!!!! read more
