I want to thank you Animal Humane for allowing me to adopt my wonderful dog! I moved back home to…read moreCalifornia and brought my dog. He has been a true blessing. He has been amazing. I made sure to set him up for success with all the training I could give him since he was already 2 years old approx. I want to bring awareness to give dogs time to adjust, my dog took about a full year to show his true personality and even then he has improved over the years. I adopted him 3 years ago and he has kept on growing in trusting people more and becoming more confident. Give dogs a chance only if you are willing to give them time, they are 10000% worth the investment of time and effort. Also, donate to your animal shelters when you can! I try to, every year on the day of his adoption :)

For my 100th review, I wanted to highlight a truly special place- Animal Humane New Mexico…read more I adopted my dog from them in 2019, and she has brought endless joy into my life. Their facility is bright, clean, open, and welcoming. Founded in 1965, Animal Humane is New Mexico's oldest animal welfare organization, and it shows in the care and dedication they provide. When I adopted her, the process was simple, efficient, and fairly priced. Lately, I've been thinking about how I can give back to my community, and the first place that came to mind was Animal Humane. I signed up to volunteer through their website, and they responded quickly--I was able to attend an orientation within two weeks. The orientation was incredibly informative, not just about the organization's mission, but also about the many ways volunteers can get involved. Since then, I've been volunteering in their on-site low-income pet food distribution center, and it's been amazing to see their mission in action. If you're looking to adopt a pet or find a meaningful way to give back, this is the place. Thank you, Animal Humane, for bringing so much joy into my life!

Dorothy is amazing! The number of birds she protects and rescues, the love and care she shows for…read moreeach is beyond words. We have adopted 4 birds and we foster others for her. I also feel a need to comment on the negative people that commented here. Dorothy treats these birds like her children. If she feels you are not prepared l, fit, or responsible enough for one she will not let you adopt. The complaints about the home visit are most false. They do a home visit, and they look for things that will put a bird in danger or kill it. They will ask to see things, like pots and pans to insure you're not using Teflon. Teflon can cause a bird to drop dead without any warning or notice. Same with cook-in bags, various plug in scents. She does not dig through your house. It's a conversation. The negative comments here are from people rejected to take in these awesome creatures. Attitude, lack of knowledge or unwilling to do the right things. Please adopt. Don't buy.

I'd give 10 stars if I could. Long review but people need to understand. My husband and I were…read moresupposed to get a Macaw from a breeder I know in Illinois. We went into BOAF just to look at food and toys. We showed up when the store had an event. We were greeted nicely and after looking around we were approached asking what we were looking for. We said why we were there and the first question we were asked was why are you looking to get a baby when you can adopt? My goodness, we were given quite the education. The details are too much to post.... but we had to rethink things. After leaving we instantly filled out a questionnaire and made an appointment. We chose not to get a baby who will one day go through an adolescent stage. We've adopted a few birds since then. After the process you aren't left to vend for yourself... they are always there to help. People don't like the process, or the wait.... but there's a reason these "rules" are in place. People don't think about what some birds have been put through and just think about their instant gratification. We also have dogs....I will tell you these bird are more expensive than feeding the dogs. The store is great, the help is spectacular. People travel across the country to surrender their birds here. That says a lot to me. They go above and beyond for the birds.... BIRDS are their priority. I've met people who have adopted from here and I've met people who have surrendered their birds to BOAF. From both sides, they love this place and the people who devote their time.
