I got my queue number through a text. He was very friendly and pointed me to using the computer to fill out my driver's application. Using the computer was really easy since it was touchscreen and I was able to get through the application quite quickly. After I filled out my application, I took a picture of my confirmation code and then sat down. They went through the numbers quite quickly, and I waited no more than 15 minutes before my number was called. I was helped by one of the lady employees and she was very helpful. She let me know what documents and IDs I needed to register for my drivers license. The process was quite simple and she was very pleasant. Once I was done registering with her, I did my written test in a different area. There is an employee there that takes your receipt and points you to computers that have touchscreen ability to do the written test. I passed and then after doing so, the employee prints a permit and told me instructions on how to book my road test online. Quick and easy process going in and out of the Santa Ana DMV. I was quite content that it did not take very long for the whole process. I was pleasantly surprised things moved quite quickly. I would recommend going to this DMV if you visit earlier in the morning!

And very few if any are there by choice. Because of that, a lot of people find the DMV to be an unpleasant place. However, if you plan ahead and schedule an appointment, as hard as appointments are to get, you'll have a more streamlined and hassle free experience. Also do your research online and make sure you have the required paperwork for what you want to do because there are usually two or three or even four things you will need before anything the DMV is going to process or do. And since there are thousands of people who use the DMV every day and tons of people in the lines, they don't have much leeway for people who do not have their documents in order. Most of the time you'll have to come back later if something is wrong. If you are here to take a drive test, beware! There's an intersection where there is a let turn that is not an arrow and you have to yield to oncoming traffic. If you get anywhere close when turning they automatically fail you. It's a dirty trick so just be prepared. Overall, this place is always busy and handled mass volumes of people all the time. They do a decent job as it given the resources they have and what's available.

One strong suggestion is to make an appointment if you can to avoid the long lines or long waits; it really does help. On my appointment day, I arrived early but found out I really didn't have to. About 15 minutes prior to my appointment, I received a text to alert the office that I was on the DMV grounds. I was then prompted to sit inside and wait for my number to be called. The whole process from after my appointment time to getting to a window was about 10-15 minutes. The associate who helped me, Angel, was amazing and made the experience that much better. Unfortunately, I forgot my second ID, so I had to go home and bring it back to verify my identity for the Real ID. Tip: You will need two forms of identification plus two forms of proof of residence. Angel placed a Post-It on my paperwork to allow me to bypass the line once I returned to continue the process. The whole process took about 30 minutes, minus me leaving and returned to complete my business. The service was quick, had a clean waiting area, and plenty of parking even though it was busy. For future business, I will not be so worried because they definitely figured out how to alleviate the stress and waiting, which is definitely a plus.

It keeps the line moving, and once I got my number, I waited about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. It sounds long, but the numbers were moving surprisingly fast. The biggest issue is the waiting area outside. There are only a couple of benches, so most people end up standing or even sitting on the ground. It creates a lot of confusion because people arriving don't realize they need to scan the QR code first. They end up forming random lines that don't actually exist, especially near the entrance. I do want to give a shoutout to the gentleman outside with the rolling computer. He was incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful. He kept trying to direct people away from the front doors and answer everyone's questions, but every few minutes a new group would arrive and gather at the entrance again. One suggestion: add more outdoor seating. There's a large landscaped area out front that could easily fit several park benches, which would make the wait much more comfortable. I usually handle everything online, so I haven't stepped inside a DMV in 15 to 20 years. I only had to come in because of a registration glitch with my tags. I was surprised by how much has changed. There are a lot more service windows than I remember, and I imagine removing most of the indoor seating helped make room for them. Overall, the staff was helpful, the process was organized once you understood it, and the line moved efficiently. A little more seating and clearer guidance for first-time visitors would easily make this a five-star experience. And happy to say because of the online glitch, my late fee was waived.

No hello, greetings or hey I was be right with you, nothing. I was there for over 40 mins waiting, two staff members there. One assisting the other only customer there, when i was there.
