I got my queue number through a text. He was very friendly and pointed me to using the computer to fill out my driver's application. Using the computer was really easy since it was touchscreen and I was able to get through the application quite quickly. After I filled out my application, I took a picture of my confirmation code and then sat down. They went through the numbers quite quickly, and I waited no more than 15 minutes before my number was called. I was helped by one of the lady employees and she was very helpful. She let me know what documents and IDs I needed to register for my drivers license. The process was quite simple and she was very pleasant. Once I was done registering with her, I did my written test in a different area. There is an employee there that takes your receipt and points you to computers that have touchscreen ability to do the written test. I passed and then after doing so, the employee prints a permit and told me instructions on how to book my road test online. Quick and easy process going in and out of the Santa Ana DMV. I was quite content that it did not take very long for the whole process. I was pleasantly surprised things moved quite quickly. I would recommend going to this DMV if you visit earlier in the morning!

This is easy to miss, and she was polite. My feedback: During check in, please use computer automation to validate if the customer has an appointment or not, to eliminate human error. (This seems like an easy fix with a passport and RealID reader). 2. She sent me a text message, but I never received it, most likely because I use Google Voice. Please allow your text message reminder system (Twilio, etc.) to send text messages to voice-over-IP numbers. (I understand the risk of receiving robocalls, but this system is for sending reminder messages, which seems low risk) Unfortunately, my son (here for his permit application) was treated a stand-by. By the time he actually checked in, it was already ~50 minutes past his appointment. He was unable to take the permit test because that ends and 4:30PM, and will need to come back again. We specifically chose this day for an appointment, because it was a school holiday, and our DMV field office is not open on weekends. We will need to come back again during a school day to allow him to take his test.
