When I was first contacted by Krista she had to get my husband's social and I gave that over the phone. Then she asked me again when it came appointment time; turns out she did not write it in the system. Thankfully I had it in a note on my phone. Not something you keep on hand! Secondly, I was charged for glasses before even being fitted for them. Lastly, it had been 2.5 weeks since I had my appointment and did not get a call that my glasses were ready. Sure enough I called the office and they had them....just didn't notify me. Returning here is up in the air for me. While I had a good experience with the doctor, paying as much as I did for glasses and not having an entirely good experience left sort of a bad taste in my mouth.

So at the end of the visit, they were able to overcharge me about $5 undeserved (since I questioned everything) and I am stuck with ill fitting contacts for a year.

When I arrived I was greeted with a friendly smile from her assistants as always and was quickly offered the OPTOMAP. That's where they take a picture behind your eye. It's pretty cool actually and that allows the doctor to be able to see the overall health of your eye and can compare it from the previous year. What's awesome about that is if there are health concerns detected in your eye, it's more then likely, going on everywhere else in your body. After the pictures were taken, I was then taken to a waiting room. Moments later the doctor came in with a friendly smile we talked about our personal lives and had my normal eye exam. She's super friendly and funny, so I enjoy seeing her regularly even if she no longer accepts my insurance. She's always been honest with me and I feel she truly cares about the health of my eyes and is just a genuinely good person. Her prices are fair and I haven't had to worry about the insurance at all. I will continue to see her and recommend her to anyone else looking for a good eye doctor.

My exam was fine, prescription had not changed, I was told by the billing they charged it medical because I have cataracts (which had last few years) Billing told me they charged medical insurance this time because sometime, in the future, I may need surgery, so there would be a record of it. Our Medical insurance doesn't cover all, so the deductible needs paid. I was disappointed in the change of my billing.

The other thing that didn't sit with me philosophically is that they were OK to charge me totally out of pocket (almost $500 for my prescription), but couldn't be bothered to let me use my optical insurance to bring that price down for me. Buyer beware, especially since the style frames they have aren't for everyone. I'd actually liked the styles they carried and that's why I'd chosen them, but none sat well enough on my face. If they can't be bothered to save their customers a couple hundred dollars if there is no frame sale in it for them, that doesn't jive with me philosophically. He clearly cares a great deal about his patients. He's a little old school--keeps records on little cards written in pen just like my OD in junior high--but he's still got all the high-tech toys that other doctors have, e.g., he can take pictures of your retina to check for macular degeneration. Here's the difference: he does NOT charge extra for it! What I really enjoy is that he doesn't pressure you into buying anything--all the purchases of glasses and contacts are done next door at 20/20 Optical--so you can just relax and know that your eyes are in good hands. In fact, this year he recommended that I go backward in contact lens technology, i.e., I'll be purchasing a cheaper lens. It just seems to work better for my eye.
