Upon arrival, I was admitted late and it took 15 minutes to process paperwork. An additional 10-15 minutes were spent doing the routine machines, then I saw the doctor at 4:45pm. The exam was generally fine, but honestly, I don't want an explanation of every little thing - I don't have time for your flex. After confirming I can identify letters, I went back to have my other eye photographed. I was then prompted to try on new contacts to confirm they worked. Great. Then it was time to pay and I was slammed with a nearly $160 bill. $39 for photos (this was shared up front) and close to $110 for a contact fitting, which by the way, I was not truly informed about. I was simply sat down and told to try the contacts. I was flabbergasted and shared as much - Diana, the assistant, was absolutely smug. I asked why I was not informed of itemized expenses and she said I didn't ask. The glasses and contact prescription would not be released to me until I paid the contact fitting fee. I never had this fee at my last place, and I will absolutely be returning to my prior place despite the less than convenient location now. Never in my life, on my SAME insurance, have I ever paid $110 for a contact fitting. The fees and lack of transparency, combined with the poor bedside manner, gets a HUGE THUMBS DOWN. The doctor was fine and competent, but man, only go here if you want to shell out way more than you need to. You will be paying exorbitant costs for service you can get elsewhere for much less. Furthermore, I was told my issue was with insurance. No ma'am, my insurance puts X amount towards these components, you are responsible for charging outrageous fees. The glasses selection was mediocre, very safe, certainly no options that are fashion forward or bold. The office was clean except for one machine that had disgusting foundation from a prior client on the chin and head rests. This office touts their exceptional cleaning due to COVID. They were unable to print a receipt for payment and had to give me a written copy. Honestly, I rely on other professionals working in their field to deliver a reliable product. When I booked the appt as a new patient, the assistant should have provided pertinent information regarding their services. This is reasonable. I suggested she do this and she sarcastically said, "I'll make a list." I replied, "I think that's a great place to start." Why not just have a PDF of the services and fees and tell patients to call their insurance ahead of time to determine coverage. Learn from my headache and don't waste your time here. Oh! And considering I didn't get my eyes dilated, my appt was still over 1.5 hours!!!! Talk about inefficient and a waste of everyone's time!

Lastly, I have eye insurance that doesn't cover much and the optometrist wrote for an expensive medication instead of telling me there is a much cheaper identical equivalent of the benign medication that I should have been prescribed instead to begin with. I had to research myself to find out that the medications have the same mechanism of action but one costs much less. More importantly they should tell their patients about medication options instead of living in fear. Despite me taking the medication for years without doctor or insurance issue, the optometrist was too scared she'd get in trouble if she wrote for the less expensive medication. So I unfortunately ended up finding out this optometrist is against continuity of care out of fear that prescribing the less expensive med (which treats the exact same thing) wouldn't be covered as medically necessary and get her in trouble. Lesson learned, seen an ophthalmologist. People are terrified to prescribe the most innocuous medications these days. It's infuriating to have to hunt for confident prescribers. This is unfortunately not uncommon to find prescribers too scared to do their jobs, but it's completely unfounded and puts more work and cost on the patient.

This results, for my child and for me, in underutilization of our vision coverage (through which a vision exam is provided each year with $0 co-pay), and a $40 per person co-pay. So, our fees increased $80 this year for no good reason. Arbitrary changes that result in increased charges to customers (and no additional revenue for the provider) are bad business practice. From the moment I walked in and said hello, she was grumpy and unfriendly. I arrived early for my 10:00 a.m. appointment. Even though I had been to this office last year, she asked me to fill out the forms again, which I did. I also called my insurance company and provided the information she requested. After that, before they even looked up the insurance information I had provided, another staff member told me I had to reschedule my appointment. Since it was only around 10:15 a.m., I asked why I needed to reschedule when my appointment had been at 10:00 a.m. I was filling out the forms and calling my insurance company. I explained that I had recently had a baby, had made the effort to come to the appointment, and had done my best to provide the information they needed. As I was leaving, I thanked them for their help, wished them a nice day, and said that I did not want to receive a bill for a visit where I was not seen. Instead of calmly addressing my concern, the front desk staff called out across the front desk toward the door to defend herself. The entire experience felt unprofessional and disappointing.

The thing I appreciate most is that they start appointments on-time & seem to do a thorough job. A vision technician does the preliminary things & then the optomotrist finishes & writes a prescription for glasses. With my insurance, there's no out-of-pocket cost for this exam, but I'm sure that wouldn't be the case for everyone. They also sell/make glasses, which seem pricey, but I feel to be of high quality.

However, after receiving my glasses, I had to dock a star. What to expect of your eye exam and picking out your glasses is exceptional service and great attention to detail. The girls are so incredibly friendly and very happy to work there. The doctor was so real and down to earth, which I don't see that trait in many doctors these days. When picking out your frames, they are very honest and will tell you what looks good and what doesn't work. I loved that level of honesty and I found a pair that I thought would be the best pair of glasses I've ever gotten in my life. They not only fit great, but they also looked great. When I received my glasses, they didn't seem to fit the same way as when I originally tried them on. Bummer! When bringing them back for adjustments, it was then that the technicians gave me the reasons for why they didn't fit anymore and suddenly, they weren't as honest and friendly. No less than FOUR times during my eye exam, I CLEARLY stated that I use the classes for computer glasses (computer length). At NO point did I say distance, and I never wore bifocals. 4 times! There was no chance of mistake, and yet the prescription they handed was NOT for computer glasses, NOT for single vision, bifocals for distance - was that Rx even mine????? The glasses I like are from somewhere else ($80 vs. their $600 after insurance and I like the $80 ones better which they don't carry. The online place I purchased requires you to give them a correct Rx, and if you do not, no refunds. So guess what - I am out that money with a pair of glasses I can't see out of at ALL! Add to that the time it took to get the glasses only to be wrong, and then time until they could get me back in. Then I had to take MORE time off work for the visit. The Dr. saw HIS error right away and worked with me to get the correct script, listened to me state what he had done wrong and that I clearly stated computer glasses, and at NO POINT was I offered an apology. NO APOLOGY! So unprofessional. Of course they won't cover the money I lost because of HIS error - I may not be so furious had he just apologized for the mistake that he did admit was his. Maybe I have the right script now, after taking off work AGAIN to have to go in? I won't know until I get new glasses, and I am not risking it with the online other provider until I can feel confident that I was given the correct medical info / script - at this point I DO NOT trust what I have been given. I picked a pair at Gateway / Eyetique, grabbing a cheap and ugly pair that my insurance will cover. I had to do this for one specific purpose: I am left without confidence that my medical provider gave me correct care / correct prescription . I rely on medical professionals to be correct, and again .... 4 times! 4 times I said "I need these to be computer glasses". He pointed at his error and did not apologize. So now I have to wait 2 weeks for the ugly pair to come in from them before I can trust that the Rx is actually correct now. Then it will be another few weeks after I order the glasses I actually want elsewhere. I would say "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed", but that isn't true. I am very angry, and very disappointed on many levels. Paying attention to your client when he clearly states "computer glasses" no less than 4 times, then seeing your error after being told you wasted his time and money, and then NOT apologizing - that last one is really the kicker. That shows a lack of professionalism. I am finishing out this painful process, but I will have a difficult time justifying EVER going back there, and I will certainly not be recommending it. What I will be doing instead is actively letting EVERYONE I know about the chain of experiences I had there!
