I had been a customer of eyecare associates in the past and didn't have a problem.
This week, I accompanied by boyfriend for an appointment, to help him pick out some frames afterward. He reported that Dr. Amos was very good and professional, but that the "tech" that came and took him back was very snarky. (Admittedly I didn't observe this personally, but I did observe what came next)
After the appointment, we go out to pick out some frames. Now of course frames are ridiculously overpriced, but hopefully you get something from insurance to cover it. The guy, Larry, who is there to explain the types of lenses you should get, the types of frames that would work, etc., and basically finalizes the sale--he was EXTREMELY pushy and at times rude.
It's no surprise that people want to sell you the most expensive thing. I get that. But this guy didn't even try to be subtle about it. He KEPT stressing "the lenses are gonna be really thick, I don't think you'll want to get [anything but the most expensive type of lens]". "I mean, it's up to you, but if it was ME...." etc., etc., always trying to upsell us with things like $80.00 "anti glare coating". Give me a break.
As we tried to make it clear that we wanted a certain type and shape of lenses (i.e., my boyfriend did NOT want plastic frames, they looked weird on him. This guy kept stressing that that would be the best choice, however) he continued to explain why we should get this or that type of frame instead of some we'd preferred. I hate to be harsh, but on top of verbally wearing us out, pushing us, etc., simply his attitude and fake laughter about it made it more annoying. He would pretend that he was willing to let us make our own decision, all the while forcing his opinions on us. I am fine with making suggestions or warnings, but this guy practically berated us for our choice of wire frames by going ON and ON about how "well we'll *see* how thin we can make the lenses, you know we'll try, but I just can't guarantee anything, with the wire frames they'll *really* look thick on the edge"..he went on for probably 10 minutes. He also always pulled and suggested the MOST expensive frames (like a pair of $300-$400 armani frames).
The kicker was when I had casually picked out 3 frames for my boyfriend to try and was holding them in my hand--not dead set, just wanted to see how they looked and get an idea.
Before he could try them on, Larry came up to me and goes "hmm, okay...THAT one, and THAT one aren't gonna work," while actually TAKING the frames straight out of my hand! Seriously? That was a bit much for me.
All in all, I hate to give a place a bad review that probably has good services in the actual patient-care area. I would just warn you to be prepared to be stern in the frame-choice department, be prepared to have people attempt to squeeze you for all you're worth, and be ready to say "no."
Or just get your prescription here and take it to another place like Wal-Mart, Costco or Sam's for your frames. WAY cheaper and they, quite literally, have at least twice the selection. The selection at ECA was very, very small--probably less than 170 men's frames. 4 stars for patient care, 2 stars for the frames/salesman--average 3 stars. read more
