Lapin and I came here on our way to the NC. The service was friendly and quick. I like how they are across from Walmart.

Factually speaking.....and the reason why "I" and so many others go to WaWa Convenience store vs…read more Royal Farms. I walked in about 11:15pm (traveling thru town) and I walked to the beverage section. I wanted to get 1 beer and when I went to open the door, I saw that the door was "pad locked". Ok. I walked to the front counter and patiently waited my turn. When my turn was next I said with a smile 'Hey, I see the beer section is closed. Have you stopped selling beer?". (I know that VA sells beer up until 12:00 midnight). The woman whom was dressed sloppily, said to me, "we lock the doors cuz people be stealing them". "I can open it for you" she said. "Ok" i said. So as we mosied over to the beer section I asked innocently, "So, what time do you lock the doors?". She said we locked them at midnight. I said...ok....but they are locked now. So what time do you normally lock them?. She said "We lock them at midnight". At this pont we had gottne to the doors of the beer section. I tugged on the door and pointed to the padlock that was restricting me from opening the door. I then said. 'But it is locked now". "So even though you lock them permanently for the night at midnight, what time do you lock the doors". She said" We lock them at midnight. Whaddya you want.?" Ok. So now I know what I am dealing and presented with. I said, " I decided that I am not thirsty". And I began to leave. Then this sloppily dressed worker muttered something under her breath and I was HAPPY to leave. Royal Farms is a sad option for a convenience store. WaWa patrons and employees are all so friendly. But when you go to Royal Farms/joke, the personnel are less than friendly, the patrons dont hold the door for you like they do at WaWa's. It is truly a lesson in building a brand, And the Royal Farms brands is unsatisfactory. I don't go to the Royal Farms 1 mile from my house either. I had a negative experience with a MANAGER there. Ill save that story for another day.

Gas Station / Mini mart…read more I normally don't pop in to gas station food marts for a variety of reasons but it was early in the morning, my ass was on fire and I really needed something to munch on - and I was desperately trying to avoid McDonald's and such. Not particularly needing gas, this place looked inviting. There was a huge food mart so I rolled in. Looks can be deceiving my friends and what I was greeted with was indeed a very large food mart - only it was consisting of approximately 85% alcohol for sale in every way, shape and form. Now, I'm all for having a beer but this place was just amazing in the variety of alcoholic beverages available, plus since it was like 9am and I still had about an hour to go before getting over the Ches-bay bridge, I passed on the booze... On the other side of the coin, the food offerings were somewhat limited to bagged stuff like chips and Tasti-cakes. Great. I grabbed a soda and a bag of chips and after paying the extortion prices - it is a convenience store after all- I got back on the road. Much to my surprise - but not really, the chips were stale! Ha! The joke was on me - apparently the good ole boys just drink in that part of VA... So, in a way it did me a favor - by being stale I wound up just tossing them instead of eating them.

One of them is the opportunity to stop at one of the last remaining original Stuckey's locations still in operation. I have stopped here several times. On this visit, I was returning home from the wedding of a younger colleague in Central New Jersey. The store is located on US 13, about an hour north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. This part of US 13 is a peaceful and historic drive in either direction through Virginia's Eastern Shore. My first order of business was to park and head for the restrooms. Parking is available on either side of the nostalgic Stuckey's building, with the gas pumps directly in front. The restrooms were clean and very well maintained. Inside, there are aisles and aisles of souvenirs and great snacks--including the famous Stuckey's pecan log rolls--as well as the Southern Grille. I purchased several pecan log rolls and a bunch of souvenirs. The woman at the cash register was very helpful and carefully packed everything for my trip home. Stopping here is like stepping back into the golden age of the American road trip. One of these times, I am finally going to order something from the Southern Grille!
