I had brake pads replaced front and rear on my Prius in December. About a hundred miles down the road after leaving directly from this shop, I started to get a loud noise in the front of the car. I had it checked at another repair shop and they identified the problem--a stud had sheared off my front left tire and two lug nuts were loose--they said I was lucky the tire hadn't fallen off. They asked if I had recent work done on the tire--they said the problem was that the lug nuts hadn't been properly tightened afterwards. I reported this to Exxon Arlington and they declined responsibility, saying it was unrelated to their work. Do not use this repair shop. read more

Like an average consumer, I read the Yelp reviews of the Arlington Exxon station at 4035 Old Dominion Drive before taking my 2018 Mazda CX-3 to the repair shop. But I said to myself the place couldn't be all that bad. The owner charged me $78.00 for my car diagnostic and promised to deduct that amount from the total repair cost. Then, he told me I needed to replace my Oxyzen sensor. He quoted the oxygen sensor part at $159.00. I dropped my car off at 9:00 a.m. The repair job was completed before 10:00 a.m. Unfortunately, the shop charged me $189.00 for the Oxyzen sensor and $178.00 for labor, even though Labor costs are estimated between $70.00 and $89.00. If you're looking for a 4-star hotel experience, this is not the place for you. They have 1 chair in the "waiting area" (i.e. a small convenience store in the gas station) and no Wifi. If you're looking for great car service, friendly staff, AND ABSURDLY CHEAP PRICES, this is the place for you! I started getting my car serviced here around 5 months ago, and I don't even shop around at other mechanics anymore. This Exxon always gives at least 50% less of a quote than any other shop, and they are always available to service that day or the next. Quick and easy. When you pull up to the bays there is a yellow outlined space for inspections which is clearly marked. Although the doors were closed someone came out to greet me. I was unsure which inspections I needed and the technician was very helpful in advising me. I told them to do what I needed, which could have been a disaster but instead the mechanic was honest and helpful. I have had my car for 1 year and emissions are due every 2 years. Although the mechanic could have easily just done both safety and emissions he asked me first and we agreed to just do the safety. He did try to sell me on the emissions, but he also told me I could come back before my registration needs to be renewed in 3 months. The safety inspection was quick. I waited inside on the single chair in the corner. I would expect if there was more than 1 person waiting the area would get cramped. There was a TV to pass the time, which was nice. My car was done quickly, within 10 minutes. Payment is expected in Cash for inspections and they have an ATM. The safety inspection was $16 and I believe the emission inspection is $26 or so. My son went to Arlington Exxon to get a safety inspection on his car. They advised him that his exhaust pipe was leaking and would need repairs. He asked them what the cost would be and agreed on a price. But when he went to pick up the car, (I) the mechanic had left for the day and had taken the car key with him and (ii) the cashier refused to let him take the car without paying a price that 30 percent higher than the agreed price. I was on the phone with my son when he agreed on the price with the mechanic. We went back the next night to get the key and I he overcharged amount, but the cashier was unable to resolve the issue. She called the owner Singh, who tried to renogotiate the price. They ultimately agreed to give back approximately half of the overcharged amount, and said we could come back the next day to talk more. This has unfortunately left a very bad taste for us. We will be looking elsewhere or our future service needs. read more

I came here for an auto safety inspection. The inspector (or salesman) tried to say that my headlights were too fogged over (which they aren't even remotely; the have some wear to them but it doesn't effect the light output). I argued with him and he backed down. He did however find a belt that showed wear and of course could sell me a replacement and install it for $190. He then said the parking brake didn't work because the car still rolled when you apply it. The parking break works fine, you just have to pull on it a little harder than most cars. He backed off that too. Another guy was here getting an inspection and they pulled the same fogged headlight crap and actually got him to pay for them to clean his headlights (they weren't very bad either). Don't take your car here for an inspection if you expect to pay $16 and be in and out. Its clear that they only see inspections as an opportunity to "invent" problems with your car. read more

I had a nail in my tire and went to get it fixed. I stopped at another station first, one where I usually get my inspection done. They said "Sure! We can fix it - can you leave it overnight?" Are you kidding me? To plug a tire? I refused and left, drove a few more blocks west and pulled in to Arlington Exxon (it also says Arlington Auto Service on my receipt) to check with them. They had all three of their bays busy with cars, and there were lots of people standing ready to work on the next project, which was me! They took my car immediately, did the fix in about 10 minutes, and had me on my way. I very happily paid $28 for the tire plug, and will be going there for my next inspection as well. Everyone was friendly, and even better, they were super speedy and efficient. They will be seeing me at their station again. read more

First went to these guys about a year ago to plug a hole in my tire because they were a little closer to my apartment than Cherrydale Motors (my usual go-to). I thought they were super friendly and fast, so I've since gone back twice to get more repairs done - most recently this week. They're great. Really nice guys who get the job done right and for the right price. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that they vacuumed and cleaned my interior for free. I don't think they do this every time but it was a really nice touch! Note: I am able to walk home easily when my car is getting fixed. They failed my car (first time ever), and then the repairman quickly switched into hard sell mode for expensive brake and light repairs. He was rude and exerted pressure for me to agree to the work right that minute. I said I wanted to research other options, paid my $16, and asked for my car back. He took another 10+ minutes (the other 2 repairmen sitting around wouldn't help me) before he handed back my registration. He offered no explanation, no apologies, just contempt about my decision to not have the car repaired with him that afternoon. I took the car today into the Falls Church Volvo dealership. I've since moved, but I still fill up here when I can and I always come for my safety inspection. The mechanics are always friendly and seem really honest. 3 years running, I've barely had to wait more than 15 minutes before they get to my car. When I went to pay, the cashier pointed to a sign requiring a minimum $35 on all credit card charges. Being without the full amount in cash, I stepped away to call my husband, who was almost home and quite unhappy. In a last ditch effort to spare my husband, we were able to make a deal - $20 cash with the remaining on my credit card. Doesn't make sense, right? With the new management, it appears to have several independent contractors working off commissions. I had my Honda Accord 2009 clutch checked out and was given an estimate of $1300 without the fly wheel or any other problems fixed. I told the mechanic that I will look at one more shop first and he handed me a $49.95 bill for looking at my car. What a rip off. I went to the Honda dealer which was $1200 full retail pricing with fly wheel repaired and was offered a loyal customer discount of $600 and it was out the door for $602. Consider dealerships when there is a "too early wear out "or technical service bulletin issues. I used to go here just for Virginia State Inspections (they prefer cash for this) and I asked if they were comfortable working on my make and model of car. They said yes and I have had them repair my car ever since. They are also VERY honest. The only reason I would not take my car here for repairs was if it was under a warranty at a dealership. I took my car in for an oil change this afternoon. The mechanic told me that a caliper needed to be replaced and we agreed on a price for the caliper replacement. When I called to see if the car was ready, they said it was. I paid the agreed upon amount for the caliper replacement and asked for a receipt showing that the caliper was replaced. The owner then told me "Oh it wasn't the caliper after all - it was the brake hose which we replaced but it was the same price." I was furious, since they had never called to let me know that they were proposing to do something different to my car - and they had already performed the work without getting my permission. The work that they did do did not have the same value as the caliper replacement, yet he insisted that I pay the price quoted for the caliper replacement. I then negotiated the price down $70 which the owner agreed to. He then reappeared with another invoice with an additional $20 in charges and refused to give me my money back until I told him I was going to call the police. This was a total bait and switch. Don't get your car inspected here! They passed me, then tossed in "I almost failed you for your bad wipers, but I went ahead and passed you anyway. Would you like me to replace them?" I was not expecting that and quickly thought, fine, probably cheaper than the dealer anyway. My fault I did not ask how much. I paid with credit card, then noticed the line item for new wipers: $30! I complained to the manager and he said mechanics are separate business. I complained to the mechanic who was rather sheepish about it but said I'd already paid and he could not refund me..but he'll give me a $16 credit for my next service. The absolute worst place to get your car service. They are overpriced and rude and very unprofessional. They charge 100.00 per hour for labor but they always charge you for 4 hours even if the work is completed in less than 4 hours. My son took our new used car in for inspection during which time, the inspector opened the trunk. I've never had this done during an inspection? Subsequently, the trunk would not close properly. My wife had opened and closed it successfully just the night before. The technician then began to figure out what was wrong. When told that it was the cable release we chose not to have it fixed. We were then told that there would be an $88 "check out charge" for determining the problem. My son complained that he was not told in advance that there would be a charge. The technician then said he could fix it for another $40. Again, my son declined. My son then went to speak with the manager who refused to discuss the original charge ($88). In the meantime, the technician continued to work on the cable release (without permission) and was able to get it to work. After my son complained again to the manager, he reduced the $40 charge to $20. My son felt that he had no choice but to pay for the (unauthorized) repairs. Bottom line, we were not informed of the charges beforehand and I think they were excessive. I have since opened a complaint with the BBB. read more
