John answered his phone on my first call and stopped by my home within a few hours for a free consultation/inspection. While my request wasn't urgent I truly appreciate his responsiveness and timeliness. Good news! The stucco front is in great shape with only one small surface crack which we can easily repair ourselves with stucco putty. He pointed out a few small gaps between our windows and wood frames and made the suggestion to fill those in with caulking to avoid potential water leakage when it rains. That was nice friendly advice and again, something we can do ourselves or hire a basic handy person. JVP could have easily tried to take advantage of what probably could be perceived as a naive person (although I would never let that happen...have another company scheduled to do the same inspection) but instead was honest, professional and really informative. I know home repair reviews aren't the most exciting to read, but Yelp is my first go to place for everything. I want to make sure JVP gets the credit and consideration it deserves.

The house had insulation blown in 14 years ago, and there are indentations in all of the walls where this was done. Unlike a previous painter I hired to refresh other rooms, Bryan's painters sanded/filled in-not an expert so I don't know the right term, but the indentations are no longer visible. The room he painted had been charcoal and white for 50+ years and was very dark. Now, it is very bright and refreshing. That guy, Matt, and the later handyman were friendly and efficient. Then another few weeks till they came out. I got the disposal and they installed it, plus added a plug under the sink and fixed the wall switch. Took an hour or so. This is the only handyman our dogs haven't barked at when they got here, and never did. He said he has dogs, but sometimes ours go nuts no matter what, on just hearing or smelling a stranger. The roof took maybe half an hour. Again, professional and efficient. Prices seem a little high to me, but it's been awhile since I hired anyone so this may be the new normal. And I used to be able to do some of this stuff but can't now, so, I have to pay someone sometimes. Worth it to have it taken care of.

We recently purchased a house in Galena that had a leaky basement and per the recommendation of our…read morereal-estate agent she recommended J&J do the repair in the basement to correct the issue (non-functional drain tile). Sid was our contact and directly supervised the work. He gave an accurate ballpark quote and was very thorough in explaining the issues and kept us up to date on the progress of work via text messages, periodic calls, and photos. Unfortunately, the job opened up some major surprises with the drain tile around the foundation as well as rotted floor structure around the chimney chase that was dumping water into the basement due to water infiltration. Sid's crew did an excellent job repairing the rotted structure in the basement that had rotted away. While this was a very expensive repair, however I highly recommend Sid and his guys. They do quality work and get it done quick. They also had good recommendations for other contractors that we need to complete the exterior work related to the structural issues (see pic below). Sid will also work with you (within reason) if you have minor changes to the work being done. We had a separate plumber (per Sid's recommendation) add rough-in plumbing for a future bathroom after J&J broke up sections of the concrete floor to replace the weeping tile.
