I started with EM a few years ago, and was geting lots of work from them, was happy with them, because of the amount of work I was getting. Then I reach 65, and work slowed down, which was ok, but it was slowing down, a year later, worked slowed down to 1 job in a year. They still collected the $no job found fee, but no work. They were guaranteed their monthly no job fees, but I was not. Now no work with no guarantee of work but I am still paying that fee! I got more work by hitting the ground running than EM would! I called and emailed about my concerns about paying a fee and not getting work... results no reply! It really seems like if they cannot find work they should tell you that we can no longer find work. I've been in the industry for a while now: background, stand-in, SAG-AFTRA work - and Extras Management has been one of the most reliable and professional services I've ever worked with. You can really tell they've been doing this since the '80s; they know the business inside and out. Their system is super organized and detailed, they actually keep track of everything, from special skills and uniforms to tattoos and unique looks (and they attach photos too, which casting loves). It makes the booking process so much smoother and faster. The team is always kind, efficient, and on top of things. I actually live in NY and was told about Extras through a friend of mine who was registered with them in LA. I signed up at the Central Casting in NY first then heard about the LA location and was immediately directed to here. They currently do registration over zoom but I actually did it from NY and when I fly out next week I will already be made available with them. I usually fly out for weeks at a time so they told me I could pay $10 to freeze the months I am back here in NY and I can open up my availability with them when I'm in LA. It was super easy to register and they are very upfront about what they offer. I recommend it ESPECIALLY if you live in LA. If I did, I would do it full time. *** they did tell me that due to COVID they can't take the photos there anymore so we have to temporarily do them on your own. read more

And they will still charge you the monthly fee even if you worked other things than extra work. So you cannot tell them that you work another job you just have to tell them that you are not available. Think what you want lolol I'm union and my team works very hard for me and vise versa. I think part of the reason I get sent out so much is because I've built a lot of trust and relationships. They know they can count on me to present them well. I'm a professional experiencer and am professional even on worst days, never late, and never cancel even if I am not feeling well. I bring a lot of wardrobe to set even tho I'm union and I don't necessarily have to I bring a luggage full and a garmet bag full. I always show up camera and make up ready and I'm friends with everyone which makes the chemistry there which makes everything look fantastic on camera which is why I'm featured with camera time every week because I make it look really try very hard. I came here for orientation so they can help me with background work with central casting. The directions are simple and easy to follow. I filled out paperwork and I also brought changes of clothes for different looks. The photographer is a sweetheart and super patient. I have been with Extras Management now for about 18 months. When I wrote my first review, after six months, I was, at the time, very impressed with their knowledge, help, and professional courtesy of the state. Ripoff. I was super excited when I signed up for extra management the office people were nice and I can my own schedule. I told them I am available Monday through Friday here is the issue I only get booked 3 times a month. I only make like what $150 subtract 84 month fee which leaves me to me $66 bucks. What bother to me is that I only get book often for audience show then I find out there's a agency called standing room only that books you into audience show too with NO CHARGE! Yeah, I get how we get better service with extra management but if you're only booking me audience show I might as well joined standing room only than you guys taking advantage of my money! What can I say about Extras Management that hasn't already been said? If you understand the Extra business then you would ignore most of the lower ratings. No, I'm not paid by Extra management to write a five star review, I've worked with many Extra Casting services. One of the things people need to realize is that "Call in services" do not guarantee work. They don't promise that you will work a certain number of days but they do hold their reputation on the line to try as hard as they can. It always blows my mind when I hear people say that these services are scams. If they are scams, go back to calling Central Casting for hours to get one job. No one is forcing you to use these services. As for me, I've had a very successful run with Extras Management. They've booked me quite consistently; 3-4 times a week. That being said, there are down times. Being in the business, you know that most shows go on "Summer Hiatus" around June-Mid August. These are what we call "Dry seasons". It's best to understand when they occur so that you can prepare ahead of time. This way, you don't have to depend on the booking service to pay rent. It also means that you won't get your hopes destroyed when your booking rate drops through the floor. It's not your fault, it's not their fault; Hollywood is on break so there isn't enough work. When I registered with Extras Management, they were very courteous. In fact, if you are professional towards them, i.e you don't skip bookings, constantly "no show", and behave yourself on set, they will treat you well. It's the sort of "well" you'd expect form an upper management boss. The feeling that they've got your back and will try to work harder for you than those who've treated the company like a hobby. Everything will be explained on the first day of registration: union status, wardrobe and how to register new attires, skills, physical stats, and payment. What I enjoy most about Extras Management is that their payment scales with the amount of jobs they book you. Contrary to most booking services that take the $65-80 right off the top regardless of days booked, EM charges you $14 if they've only booked you on one and $44 on two. That may seem unfair but other services do not have this policy. In fact, I've been with services that charge full price when I've not been booked that month. To iterate how effective they are at booking jobs, today, 07/06/2015, I was notified that the three day shoot they booked me on will be reduced to two days. Central Casting called me and I notified EM immediately. Within two hours, they found another job for me to substitute for that day. Did I mention that EM is a sister company to Central Casting? The bulk of the extra jobs are sent to EM first because Central Casting gets the largest requests for background work. EM also gives you the numbers of other casting offices so that you can give them a call and get on their roster as well. I've been booked on a full week of Grey's Anatomy because of that. In the end, if you understand the issues that come with being a background actor, you will the ebb and flow of bookings. Another important last note, if you've pissed off Central Casting (They don't tell you if you have, they just black list you), don't expect any work. AT ALL. It's pretty much a done deal if you've gotten onto Central Casting's bad side. If that's the case, you will have to look for work elsewhere. Google the other casting companies that specialize in background talent because the services that book Central Casting jobs will not longer be able to use you for Central Casting projects. read more

Extra Management is a great company to be with, everybody is great here,they're there to help. They are fast as far as returning emails or messages and are willing to help with whatever you might need or have questions about. Non-union people I believe work more....than SAG-AFTRA union people but only because you have to be handpicked for the project. I still get work from them every month and things are picking up a little. If you are thinking about a company to sign up with definitely give Extra Management a go I don't think you will be disappointed. Cost wise it $75 a month and they call you or text you with the jobs that come in for you. If for some reason you do not work that month then they only charge you $25. (Direct deposit) You have to email them with blackout dates for your days off or appointments you may personally have, don't forget to do this. I don't suggest ever turning down work that comes your way because you will get blacklisted by them and they will not pick you for something else if they have already submitted you so make sure you block out the dates that you need off because otherwise you have to go to work. This place is a rip off. They take your money and almost never give you work (1 call for a whole month and 2 weeks). The staff are a bunch of rude spoiled coffee shop mid 20 year olds who obviously hate their job. Well one things for sure; the orientation girl can take my $84 (as a charity contribution) and go get herself some clean clothes and a shower so she don't have to cover herself up with a dusty blanket anymore lmfao. If there is one bit of advice I can give aspiring actors, new to LA it's this: Avoid Extras Management like to plague. I'll give you the basic rundown. As an actor who makes most of her money in guest-stars and low-budget junk (not that it's junk, perhaps I should call it "stuff"), I was in desperate need of more income to make my car payment. So, an actress friend who does not work in television, nor have an agent, suggested I do extra work with Extras Management. I figured she wouldn't steer me wrong, and gave it a try. You'll be put through the usual bull****: Don't be late, don't falsely represent yourself, blah, blah, blah, common sense. Then you'll be told that it is always your responsibility to keep your schedule up-to-date by calling them every single time you cannot be booked. Easy right? Not so fast. IF you happen to call and they've already booked you that day: Guess what? You're f*****. So, of course, this happens to me. I had conventions I was booked to appear at September through the first week of November, and booked out accordingly. I found out that they had some dates wrong and called to correct them. No problem. Then, I received my availability for the following week. They still had me listed as available on a day I told them I was not available. So beginning Thursday evening, myself, my mother, and my boyfriend began trying to call. We called 12 times total over the span of 3 days. No answer. I'd like to point out, that while Yelp says EM is closed on weekends, their website says they hold hours 7am-12am Monday-Sunday, so calling them on a weekend should be no problem. Gee! What do you know, I just so HAPPENED to get booked on that one, single day that I'd been trying with no avail to inform EM that I was not available. Considering their unreasonable standards, I panicked, and called leaving quite the angry message, followed by an email in which I CCed Kevin, the... owner... I guess...? of the place. I certainly did not think this was an over reaction, seeing as I'd attempted to inform them of their mistake a total of 14 times now (including the message and email), AND they had chosen 1am to contact me, when my information sheet says "no calls after 8pm." Then I received an email request from Kevin, asking me to "call him as soon as I got home." I did. No answer. I emailed him again, informing him I'd just tried to call yet again, within minutes of receiving his email, and he declined my call. The following day, I was extremely ill and had my phone on silent. Kevin took this opportunity to harass me by calling me (want to guess how many times?) 12 straight times in a row, simply to prove a point. When I asked my manager to call him back because I had no voice, and am honestly uncomfortable dealing with someone that irrational, he hung up on my manager. I realize this is an extras booking establishment, but I was in the room, ready to write my answers for my manager to read aloud. Kevin, for lack of a better phrase, is a loose cannon. After a series of degrading emails from Kevin, accusing me of slander (interesting, since I'm telling the truth [not slanderous] and this is written [therefore LIBEL would be the correct term, not slander] learn your legal terms idiot, but regardless...) I reported EM to SAG. Upon calling SAG I found out that Extras Management is not SAG franchised, and has absolutely no place to be representing themselves as an establishment that is capable of booking, or placing SAG members on set in any way, manner, or fashion. Perhaps they shouldn't have been quite so mean to little old me? After placing me on "probation" for my "tardiness," Extras Management had the ever-loving AUDACITY to send a bill to be charged to my credit card for $84 for the month. I think not. Here's how EM supposedly works: If they book you 1 or fewer times that month, they don't charge $84, if they book you 2 or more times, they charge you. Why are you charging me? Out of spite because you're unreasonable and childish, that's why. In 30 days with EM, they booked me once, and then tried to book me on a day they KNEW I was unavailable, resulting in this mess. What a disaster this place is. AVOID. There are at least two other places you can go (especially if you are non-union). This place is everything working actors have grown to hate about Hollywood. The very reason we lose sight of our love for the craft, and become bitter, and jaded in a never ending search for enough money to pay the bills. ***Anyone wishing to view screen capture proof of my attempted correspondence, emails with Kevin, or Extras Management staff, please feel free to contact me.*** I would be more than happy to send you that information. This is my personal experience and I felt compelled to write this review after speaking to other extras who've experienced similar situations with E!M. This is not primarily about how often they would book me (occasionally, they would book me regularly. However, one month, I was only booked twice. I won't dock them for the inconsistency though, because I realize several factors are outside their control), nor is this post primarily about the cost for their services (though they are the most expensive of the major calling services), but rather their lack of accountability, and their treatment of customers. Extras was my calling service for about a year. I trusted that they were doing their job, and I always made sure that I was doing mine. Maybe our relationship would have lasted longer if they hadn't sent me the incorrect call time and caused my suspension from a major casting agency. Extras told me to show up at one time, while the production had me down for another time. Extras called me and initially accused me of being in the wrong. I was being reprimanded and I was being spoken to in a condescending tone. I was confused because I thought I showed up early to set. I then realized that they gave me the wrong call time. As soon as they realized their mistake, they changed their tone. However, I was still suspended from the casting agency. As a courtesy, I won't name the production nor the casting agency (you can probably guess though) because I understand that it is not their fault. I get why they had to suspend me (no excuses, tardiness is unacceptable), but Extras messed up, so I will name them for causing this unnecessary situation and for their handling of it. I have never showed up late to set, and I believe I never would have if Extras hadn't given me the wrong time. I asked Extras to explain the situation to the agency (with hopes that they would understand the misunderstanding) and though they did, I remained suspended. Extras's attitude toward the situation was blase, almost like "Oops. Our bad. Stuff like this happens though, you can't be too mad at us. We'll try to talk to the casting agency since you asked us to. Okay, We just talked to the casting agency. Sorry, they're keeping you suspended. Nothing we can do." I can forgive this. E!M can't do anything because they're not the casting agency. However, I brought up something that actually was in their control. I asked if it was okay if they give me a discount for the next month which I thought was a reasonable request considering I would be in a financial bind since I was suspended for the next month due to their negligence. I was denied. Now, I can forgive them for sending me the wrong call time. We all make mistakes. Even though I find it super ironic that they are allowed to make mistakes, but we can't (oh, you accidentally showed up to the old location? You're suspended. This is an actual situation that also happened to a friend on set who had Extras Management). What I cannot forgive is their handling of the situation. First off, initially blaming me for your mistake?Not cool. Secondly, not even considering offering me a discount despite the fact that you caused me financial strains by causing my suspension for a month (not to mention, I've been loyal to your service for over a year)? Their lack of accountability and their lack of empathy is concerning. Out of principle, I cancelled my service with them. And they were totally fine with it. And I get where they are coming from...and this is where I feel the need to write this review long after I've severed ties with them. Even after I quit, they will probably continue to have dozens of eager extras trying to sign up. They don't need to offer decent customer service, and they don't care about retaining us as customers. In their eyes, they don't need us as much as we need them. They have plenty of people who are willing to put up with them. Yes, to them I am probably "just" an extra (like many, I relied on extra work to pay the bills. It wasn't a career path for me), but I am also a human being. I believe in taking responsibility for your actions, I believe in treating people with respect, and I believe in basic human decency. I quit Extras Management because dignity matters to me. It may seem harsh, but sometimes, I wonder if they even see their customers as actual human beings (with brains, emotions, and bills to pay). It's a shame how disposable people are to them. Again, this is just my experience. I'm not writing this review out of spite. I'm writing it because I know other people have felt the same, but haven't said anything (I probably should have written this post months earlier, but I just created my Yelp account today, so sorry). Avoid like the plague. These people are rude, have sent me to a job I wasn't booked on --and wouldn't compensate me for. Booked me on a job I *specifically* said not to book me on, and they fought with me over it. I recently got the stomach flu, and had to cancel a job -- the only time I've had to cancel a job after about six months of being with them, and they put my account "on review". I called them about four hours before I was scheduled to be on set -- plenty of time to replace me and got major attitude. "You should have called earlier, if you knew you were going to cancel." Oh, I'm sorry that I didn't start throwing up earlier in the day. I told them I was happy to show up to set, vomiting every 3-5 minutes. This is typical with them. Any contact is an inconvenience unless they want you to do a rush call to get them out of a bind. After no communication for four days, I called in again, to be told to expect an email. I waited another couple days and had to call in only to be told that they needed a doctors note. What ridiculous bullshit is that? Have any of you been able to get a same day doctors appointment for something as stupid as the flu?! I was with them for six months with a perfect record that they pull this shit on me. It's been a little over a year since I've been working union with Extras Management. Most of the people in the office are friendly and cordial, with a couple of exceptions, but I pretty much get along with them. The photos have improved and I appreciate the effort that Jamie has been putting in. Unfortunately, I have to call regularly to ask why I'm not getting booked and often have to hassle them to submit me, which is not fun. Here's why two stars. After over a year, the patterns have emerged, and I think I know what's going on. Here's how it has worked for me: For the first two weeks of the month, if I want to work, I have to book my own work, or sometimes I am directly requested by casting for a show I regularly work on. Extras does not submit me for jobs for the first two weeks of the month, but says I am "showing available." Yes, available, but not submitted for jobs. I often don't work at all in the first half of the month because Union jobs are not usually posted to Central Casting's work lines, so I have very few opportunities to submit myself. In the last two weeks of the month I work quite a bit. I have a good look, in my humble opinion. You can look at my photo if you wish to investigate. (My profile pic is Manservant Hecubus, not me.) It is becoming clear to me that I work a lot when submitted, but I am only submitted for the end of the month, which keeps me coming back for more the next month. It also seems that am not usually submitted for work on Mondays. It's very rare that Extras gets me a Monday job. This is just an observation. I am available 7 days a week unless I have to take a day off here or there for something. If the $79 fee were reduced to $40, I would not be complaining. It would be fair for the fee to reflect the work being done, which is about two weeks worth per month. I need to stick with them though, because I really have no other choice, being union. The problem is that they take anyone and everyone as a client because the fees are paid regardless of whether you earn a living wage. In an effort to spread the work out amongst the maximum number of clients, they have a schedule of booking that gives everyone just a little work, rather than only taking on as many clients as they can handle and giving them enough work to live on. It doesn't matter what you say your availability is. They submit you on about 14 days a month at best, which equals to about 8 days of work, ultimately. This is not just my experience. I've heard from other union extras on set that they have a couple weeks a month with nothing or next to nothing, and then a couple of good weeks. No one in the office will admit to this, so you're wasting your breath even bringing it up. They have their script to follow. Mind you, Extras is owned by the same parent company as Central Casting, so you're really out of luck if you're union and don't use their service to get work. If you are non-union, you'll get a lot more work than union extras, but it really makes more sense to just save the fee and book directly with Central Casting. read more

I went without a calling service for a month or so but got tired of calling the lines to hear what was available and only got work 3-4 times per week. Talk about friendly and professional staff.. Everytime I call in to change my schedule, they take it without batting an eye. Never a grumpy person on the other line and I call MULTIPLE times a week as auditions and other things come up. They always provide service with a smile. Not to mention, they keep me working literally on ALL MY OPEN DAYS. Some people say they are not worth it becasue they aren't getting work, but remember, this is Hollywood, it is all about what that pearticular casting director is looking for at that time. EM has nothing to do with that.. If you have a more unique look, you will be cast less, and if you have an average more common look, then you are likely to be cast more (as the background industry goes). Either way, this is a great service, and imperative if you would like to work full-time as you develop yourself as an actor/contiue to gain exposure into a profession that requires you to remain familiar with how a stage works. I have worked with Extra's for a long time. They occasionally got me work, but nothing consistent. I was going in for surgery, so I let them know I was not available. But the day before my surgery I got a text telling me I had been booked- for the first time in 3 months, no less. I called and told them I couldn't make it, as I was in the hospital. The guy just said "fine" and took me off the gig. Thinking that all was well, I went about my business. About a week later I received a letter telling me I had been "suspended" for not going to the job. Then to add insult to injury, they sent me a bill for around 80 dollars. When I called to ask for a refund, the girl told me that "they had done their job and found me a booking" so I still had to pay them. When I mentioned that I had booked out, she said it wasn't in their system. Here is where you need to watch out--I decided to go ahead and quit Extra's. But for 3 months now, they have now continued to bill me despite repeated attempts to get them to stop. I have called them and their accountant, and they just keep telling me they will take me off. Yet I receive a bill each month. So If you decide you are ready to leave their service, you better send them a registered letter and tell your bank to stop payment. Cause they will do all they can to get at your money. read more

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THESE PEOPLE, IT'S A SCAM!!! After calling Talent 6 and them asking me for money upfront, I decided not to pay and to do some research first. Thank god I did! I checked out Extras Management and Talent 6 on bbb.org (Better Business Bureau) and they both get an "F" rating. Anyone that wants you to pay upfront, you shouldn't trust. Still my favorite booking/scheduling service in the business. I can't say they're perfect and I've had my differences with them on one or two occasions. However they've never left me hanging since the new management took over a few years ago. They might not be L.A. nice (i.e. nice personality) but they're definitely N.Y. (nice as in I've never worried about my bills with them. They're the oldest firm in the business meaning the have some of the deepest relationships with extras casting directors. Their computer systems are the most update I've seen in the business. The management has integrity and takes their job seriously. read more

When asked on set how I like Extras, I've always said such positive things. Truth be told, I was one of the few on set who seemed to not have issues with them. I got booked 2-5 times a week. I was reliable. Always on time. Always well behaved. Never got in trouble. Rebooked on several shows. Extras even seemed to solve issues for me whether it was my bad or theirs. I never had the problems that others on set complained so much about. Things will come up and you can't avoid them, however, you can prevent from being viewed as "unreliable" by a calling service's and the entertainment industry's standards. - If you are booked through Extras find yourself sick after being booked, call the agency that booked you, (i.e. if you were booked by Central Casting, call their line.) They will often just take you off the call, no questions asked. I have heard people say they've gotten some sass by Extras when they've called in sick directly to them. They will even put you under review and deem you unavailable. - If you are running late, CALL the agency! Even if you think you are going to arrive just a few minutes after your call time, it is so important to make sure you avoid getting yelled at for being late or risk the possibility of not being booked again on that particular show. - Don't talk back to crew members. Sometimes you have no other choice but to speak up. We all know that many of them are ungrateful and entitled to yell at hardworking little extras like you, but remember that they probably secretly hate themselves and that is something you cannot change. I think this a lot about the worst crew members and it makes me happy and doesn't harm anyone. - Don't hope that Extras won't book you on a day that you need to be made unavailable because if you are made available, then you have to commit to what you are booked on. Call them as soon as possible. - If there is something you don't feel comfortable with, then don't list yourself as willing to do it. If you don't feel comfortable portraying a lesbian couple holding hands, mark it off. If you don't want to travel long distances, mark it off. If you have a loser ex-boyfriend in Orange County and don't want to be anywhere within a five mile radius of him, request not to be booked in that location. I was morning calls only, no back to backs, no audience work, Los Angeles area only and I still got booked a ton. There's work everywhere, you may be missing some, but not a whole lot. If you can somehow mark off "no commercials" too, then that would be wonderful and tell me about it so I can pinch myself for not attempting to do it the first time around. I am not happy with the way I chose to end my service with Extras. While I was with them though, they were great to me, and if anybody asks, I will always hold up to that. Extras made my final few months as a background actor one filled with a lot of memories and experiences that I will always value. Craft services will be missed. read more

I have been with Extras! Management for several months and they have delivered everything a reasonable person should expect from their service. Originally, I signed up with them because I had a plan to only do background for a short time and did not want to deal with the call-in system of Central Casting. EM absolutely fulfilled my expectations. I did not once have to call a phone line and deal with wasted time or rejection due to their service. At first the work was steady but it tailored off a bit and for some people this is a large criticism, on set and on yelp. If you speak with seasoned background actors though they will tell you two important things: 1. There are slow seasons. 2. Casting Directors look for new faces. Those two elements alone cause work to slow down and a lot of people project that onto Extras Management. Throughout my time I felt as though all of the staff were helpful to me and engaged in finding me work. On different sets I have heard some horror stories from other bg about things like missed call times or incorrect bookings being Extras fault but they usually come from people that seem incapable of seeing their own culpability in the situation or have some other area of shortsightedness. That being said, a couple of the stories I heard seemed absolutely legit, haha. And that's kinda why I'm not giving the full 5 stars. Although my service was overall 4.5+, the legit stories seem totally plausible because of some of my own near misses. I really only avoided these by just remembering to call the time change line "at night before you go to bed, when you wake up, and before you leave to set" :D. I think the keys to having a good experience with EM and being a background actor is to enjoy the work for what it is, check your email, and call the time change line. Too easy. EM does the best they can with the insanity of the industry itself but there is room for improvement in the way details are communicated. They could also really use a massive website update and put info about your bookings there. It's almost 2017; it's possible, do it :P Ultimately, EM found me some really great gigs and I have made a lot of friends in the background scene. Many of the people there have awesome dreams and aspirations so you will meet a colorful and amazing community of people! read more

I can't believe people pay them $85 a month to get extra work that probably pays like $10 an hour. They treat adults as if they are a bunch of high schoolers running all around. The office is super crappy. You would think all the extra workers they have that are paying $85 a month, they would have a decent office. Most of the staff seems fairly nice besides one particular older lady PAM (I've talked to on the phone), who always has a major attitude. She is literally so rude and unprofessional, started yelling at me on the phone. Pam, I know you don't like your job, but you do work there!! You will get quite a few jobs in the beginning, but make no mistake Extras Management will end up screwing you over. read more
