It's insulting and completely unacceptable that a company handling valuable items would offer such minimal protection and then wash their hands of any responsibility. Something the app doesn't tell you when booking a reservation is that if you try to check in more than 15 minutes after your reservation time that it flat out won't work. The webmaster and Haul corporate should make that more clear. That is not the fault of the store. I easily located the vehicle I wanted online and reserved. I did not know about the 15 minute cutoff (which was later explained by the very patient manager, Will. He assisted me quickly despite me coming in with serious Karen energy and remained polite and informative the entire time. He also adjusted my time due to the delay so I could stay within my allotted reservation range. Someone else mentioned the trucks being dirty. As I pulled in to return my vehicle, the staff was hard at work cleaning out a box truck. They immediately pulled my van up to begin cleaning it too. The other employees that I encountered during my return were all upbeat and friendly. Not related to my experience with this location, but I truly loathe the per mile charges. It forced me to rethink my route so I could keep the miles to a minimum since I was using it for a non-profit and did not want to rack up the bill. I understand that the marketing is only $20 per day, but I would rather an hourly or tiered pricing system that did not make me reworking my route to keep the cost down.

When we went to retrieve the things on Labor Day weekend, everything that we had not sealed in bags was covered in mold and mildew. (See pictures) When I spoke to the manager (Troy) about this, he pointed out that I had declined insurance on the rental. He was right. I had not purchased the insurance. Why would we need insurance for relatively inexpensive belongings for a short period when they are secured in a climate-controlled environment? When I said this to him, Troy explained to me that the company distinguishes between "climate controlled" and "humidity controlled" spaces. I laughed out loud. If "climate control" doesn't include control for humidity, then what in the world does it include?? Their representation of the service they provide is called MISPREPRESENTATION in advertising, at best--and FRAUD at worst. A call from some manager in an office somewhere else called to discuss my "case," and she repeated the same absurd lines about my declining insurance and the fact that they had "a very humid summer in Connecticut." Look at the pictures. Do not rent any unit at this facility if you expect anything other than a tin roof over your belongings. This isn't about the cost of replacing these items (total of about $125). I just cannot abide this kind of shady business practice.

When we got to my new place, there was a challenge with the couch. I know, my fault for buying a couch from Macy's without measuring it to make sure it will fit through doors. However, these guys tried so hard and didn't give up!!!!! I was about to give up before them but they wouldn't let me - thanks guys! On my son's 2nd day of work, during his "training/orientation", he packed and loaded a house from 7a - 4:30p and then drove 2 hours to a house in NY to unload it! At 10 pm, they told him if he didn't help unpack then they wouldn't give a ride home AND that he couldn't leave because he needed an escort off the "base". He panicked and called us and we ended up getting the West Point police to escort him to the school exit. At 11:30p he got an Uber to Fishkill, NY where his dad picked him up and they got back to West Hartford at 2:00a. It was a horrible experience for him and makes me really question how they run their business. Also, they weren't even going to pay him for the 29 hours he worked over those 2 days! We finally badgered them enough that they paid him for 16 hours...so add what I have to think is wage theft to the list of questionable tactics. Somehow it got lost in transit(??) that they were packing as well as moving. 2. I've moved multiple times with my same set of furniture and items and these were the slowest movers I've had by far. 3. They want to charge me $265 to "transport" my items from their warehouse in West Haven... onto the loading dock of their warehouse in West Haven. So basically $265 to be able to get my things back and have nothing to do with them ever again.
