I've been a customer at the Extra Space Storage location on Monroe St. in Nashville, and I'm deeply disappointed by their inflexibility during an unprecedented hardship. I'm a federal employee directly impacted by the current government shutdown, which has left me without income through no fault of my own. I'm currently three months behind on payments due to financial difficulties, and the shutdown has made my situation even more dire. I contacted Erica hoping to arrange a payment plan and offered to make a good faith payment to demonstrate my commitment to settling my account once the government reopens and I receive back pay. Unfortunately, Extra Space Storage refused to work with me and plans to auction my unit on November 12th if I cannot pay in full--which is impossible given that I have no paycheck coming in during the shutdown. I'm struggling to afford groceries, let alone storage fees. It's disheartening that a national company would show zero compassion for federal workers caught in circumstances completely beyond their control. I understand businesses have policies, but the inability to offer any flexibility during a government shutdown affecting thousands of employees speaks volumes about their priorities. I now know the initial rate is good because it just goes up almost 50% a few months after you rent one and it doesn't stop! My rate was $98 less than a year ago, and it is now $236. I am extremely disappointed once again by another business that is basically a scam. Once upon a time I was extremely grateful to find this place, but now it is now one of my deepest regrets. read more

Do not use this facility! They are unsafe and do not care about the safety of their customers. Someone was assaulted in their lobby while their workers watched and did NOTHING. She begged for their help and for them to lock the door and nothing was done. DO NOT use this location. read more

I am not yet moved out but have an interesting slant on the facility: My brother and I have been renting space at this facility for about 2 years. I will admit that there have been times when I was late in paying the bill. However, this company has changed ownership, and the service is worse. The company deliberately cut off my lock and placed theirs instead without notifying me although the bill was paid, their lock prevented me from entering my unit. They also changed the entry code with my permission or knowledge. I don't think this is fair or even legal (?) My family has made several trips to the unit to begin emptying it but it took us a while to figure out what the company had done. When I brought it up to them, they said, "Yes we cut off your lock and replaced it with our own locks. They told me that it would cost me $20 to cut off the lock and I would have to purchase another one from them! Why make things difficult and meanspirited? read more

Some of the best value in town for storage! Tamara, the assistant manager, was especially kind and helpful-- as this was my first time renting any sort of storage unit. She deserves all the praise and recognition for making this process smooth! Be warned, the 5x5 units are on the second floor where there is no elevator, as the facility used to be a corporate building that wasn't ADA compliant. Can't recommend this place enough! read more

On site management, Carol, was a lifesaver - accommodating from the booking and through moving day, and walked me through different offers helping to find the best deal for me. I chose this location due to the short distance from my apartment and the fair prices. The online signup process was a plus as well- so easy and convenient! However, when I realized that an upstairs unit wasn't ideal for me, I called and was able to switch with no issues. Tamara in the office was beyond helpful (and SO friendly) and was able to help me secure a better unit for my needs. I've never experienced such friendly customer service at any other storage facility that I have rented at! They've got a long term customer in me and I'd recommend them to anyone! read more

Honestly, best storage facility ever. I've inadvertently been the WORST customer here because I got laid off and had an incredibly hard time getting hired on elsewhere over the holidays. I was basically no contact, no pay with this facility for 4 months and they didn't auction my stuff and were extremely patient with me. I am extremely grateful to them for having grace while I got my sh*t together, I am positive any other place would have sold my stuff months ago. They advertise a month free rent but said no with signs everywhere. Increase the rent after you move in, just a few buggies to load and move boxes, will not accept appointments to move things out so one waits to load and sometimes a long time to get to the dock. They will rent out the rooms with tiny doors first so walk around and look for empty spaces with large doors. I mentioned this and the lady said, OH that one just came available then I said, why didn't you offer it to me? Not much trust with all the deception from this place. read more

I've had a really enjoyable experience with Extra Space Storage! The place is super clean and well maintained. There are free carts available to move things back and forth and the building is quite secure. The best thing, for me, was that the service provided by Patricia and Phillip was so helpful and friendly. I had a crazy fast and stressful move from NYC to Nashville and no place to drop all of my stuff once I arrived here, which was scary. I was scrambling! The people at Extra Space helped me immensely considering I was operating on a limited time frame. They made transporting all of my stuff from the truck to the unit super easy. They will raise your rates over and over. No point in complaining. I'm paying $60 more a month than the current online rate. Tried to negotiate, no luck. Tried to switch units, no luck. They will raise your rate because they can. Extra Space counts on the fact that you don't want to move you stuff to another facility. Its horrible business. read more

BEWARE: Extra Space Storage - They automatically raise your rent every 6 months so if you plan on using a storage facility for more than short term, you can count on paying much much more than your move in price. This applies even when they are selling your exact same unit type for up to 30% less to new customers. But worse than that is I have written THREE REVIEWS on their site which they did not post (because they were negative?) I wrote to them on their online "Contact Us Form" twice and never heard back. When I finally got someone in the corporate office to talk to, he promised that a supervisor would call me back within 48 hours and that was four days ago. read more

I would have given this storage facility a good rating, but I made the mistake of being a few days late with a payment and was charged 20% of the monthly fee as a late charge--over $100. This is usurious and outrageous. Having been a customer for several years and having paid on time regularly, I am disappointed that this company has so little regard for its customers that it would disregard payment history entirely in favor of extracting a pound of flesh. There are many good storage facilities in Nashville. I cannot recommend this one. Look elsewhere for a facility that is more customer-friendly. read more

I called and got a quote on a storage unit. Went there the day of within the hour and presumed purchasing one. Spent $291 on one of the biggest units (unit price, insurance, renters fee) I was told about the free month special that was going on so I proceeded with the transaction thinking it was a great deal with a month free. Patricia told me to put my card on file to start the process. She also told me to call her and let her know if I needed a little extra time to get my things out and she'd be happy too help bc she lives on the property. I'm in between moves and I called to let her know I needed less than a week. And I'd pay the pro rate. I was charged the full amount for the following month and I called back to let her know and she couldn't refund me after full amount was taken out, I never got the free month I was offered, and now I'm stuck with a storage unit I don't need for a full month bc false advertising and poor customer service.
