I had to find out. Took me forever to arrive, the parking is typical LA hell-at least the street parking, I didn't bother looking elsewhere. When I got inside, I was hella surprised. Plants, drinks, indoor and outdoor dining? I think I checked the yelp images but only for the food and menu, so it was a nice surprise. If I'm not local to a restaurant, I usually stock up on food that I most likely won't eat all at once. I ordered the chili cheese fries, the cheeseburger, chopped cheese and bacon, egg and cheese. You know I had to finish the fries fresh, can't let those get cold. Saw another review mention there's not very much chili cheese on the chili cheese fries and I'd have to agree with that. There was way more fries and it would great to have more of a balance-not less fries, more chili please! I also ate the cheeseburger on the spot. I really wanted to be blown away, but all I can say was that it was fresh. Nothing about the taste stayed with me, made me remember it or was craveable enough for me to come back for it. Those pickles were huge and thick. That's what I remember. Had the chopped cheese the next day and the bacon, egg and cheese a few hours later. Again, both were good, just wasn't amazing. I also may not be the target audience. This place specializes in veganized New York sandwiches and I've never eaten anything really amazing from New York-whether I was in New York or the chef was from there. Like some others, I am the carnivore that was brought here by the vegan friend. My bestie was in town and wanted to try this vegan restaurant since we were in the area. It seems like a one-man show, with who I presumed is the owner taking our order and making our food. He was super nice and the interior is cute! Indoor and outdoor seating, with the majority of the indoor seating being bar-style. We ended up ordering the chopped cheese and bacon egg & cheese. I'll say it, I was surprised! I love Extra Market. I had Chopped Cheese. The bread was crispy and soft, just like a sandwich should be. The ingredients inside were so fresh, vegan beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, vegan mayo and ketchup. It was made to order, came out pretty darn fast and was hot. Extra Market has a New York feel to it. I sat at the counter so I could see my food being made on the grill. It was pretty darn cool. The owner, Jamie, is a really nice guy and he's passionate about what he does. There's even a market and store you can shop at during your visit. The bacon and eggs are homemade (maybe more, but I know those are for sure). I tried the bacon and it's the best I've ever had. There used to be a handful of vegan restaurants on Fairfax and in this neighborhood, but many of them have shut down after the pandemic, so I'm so glad Extra Market is here -- and praying it stays around for long time. I get the cheeseburger -- the potato bread is super soft, and it's coated in some sort of butter substitute that makes every bite heavenly. I'm not even vegan but I honestly crave the burgers from here more than I do any other burger place. The owner is super nice. The place is always clean, modern, and has got good vibes. I HATE VEGAN FOOD. Hate it. Hate it. 95% of the time it's nasty. So i can confirm that this place is BOMBBBB!!!! Got the Nashville fried chicken sandwich! And a corn salad because they were out of potato (sad tears) Idk how but the sandwich legit looked just like real chicken. It was super flavorful and perfect. I started coming here randomly when I was nearby. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and I really like it because it reminds me of those Burger King chicken sandwiches I used to get as a kid. The shop is really cute and the owner is really nice. I definitely recommend getting if you like something nice and crunchy and it's not one of those really thick chicken patties like some places do. Love this place but both times I've ordered pickup from here, they hadn't started cooking the food yet so we had to wait another 20 min, which I guess would have been fine elsewhere, but not on Fairfax with no parking to be found. The first time it happened, we were understanding but it seemed like an operational issue since it's happened twice. May my suggestion be starting the food 10-15 minutes before the pickup time instead of when the customer arrives for pickup. Also, we got home and a side of fries was missing :(. IMO it's the best vegan burger in the area -- their food is seriously top notch! BUT I've had multiple problems when ordering online. I've bought/paid for something that was sold out, given a replacement item that was cheaper, and was never given a partial refund... or any response to my emails about it. I've also been double-charged for an order, and it could take up to several MONTHS to get that money back... and this was after being told by an employee (who I think is the manager or owner?) that he'd keep an eye on the charge to make sure this didn't happen. Well, he didn't, and this was on a slow day when we were only the 3rd order, so it's not like they were super busy and it fell through the tracks. So for me, while the food is great, it's really not worth the hassle of ordering online, and after several negative experiences, I'd rather take my business elsewhere. YMMV, though. read more

Tough timing to open during the pandemic. This little spot is packed into a block between Dave's Hot Chicken and Supreme, plus 500 cannabis places. It looks cool inside, but you'll need to order on the street. A bit pricey, but impossible meat is expensive, so I'm ok. The dbl dbl is hefty, the cheese creamy but a bit bland. They use the pre-formed patty from impossible, which is thick but a tad fake looking. The burger is just too bland, and needs some brightness from lettuce and such. I think the salads might be better, but I didn't try. The packaging is unusual, and feels a bit overkill (and not very sustainable). Anyway, please support this little spot. It isn't a 5 star place, but they deserve the benefit of the doubt. read more

I came here the other afternoon and was the only customer inside. It's super clean inside and I love their little one big philodendron plant. Some guy welcome me and I ordered the chopped cheese sandwich- I heard that their egg was really good, so I added egg inside as well. The guy behind the counter and I were having great conversation while I was waiting for him to make the sandwich. It was super delicious! I would definitely come back here again. I noticed that he added a card inside the brown paper bag and once I got home, I realized it was a free jar of pickles from their refrigerated section. I totally wish I ate there so I could've noticed the card and picked up my free pickles! Oh well, it's a good reason for me to return. My only wish is that they served beer/ alcohol. Unlike most shops on Fairfax it isn't screaming for attention. It's unassuming. Up in the cut. You can eat inside at their long counter. Low enough so you won't crease your kicks. Or outside. Sitting up high enough to watch all the passerby's with their latest cops from Supreme. Extra is a minimalist's dream. Not too much. But just enough. It's a dope space. Hmmmmmm... I'm pretty surprised at the 5-star review here. I recently downloaded OTM and saw that Extra Market was on there, so I decided to stop by today to try a chicken sandwich. My brother and I ordered: - Nashville hot chicken sandwich (thru OTM app) - double impossible burger - fries The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was solid, as was the double burger (though my brother didn't like it). Fries were absolutely horrible -- super stale/overcooked. One thing I really liked about the impossible burger is that they use super juicy, fat patties. Other places I've been to (Monty's) seems to cut them in half. They do not skimp at all here. The wait was also surprisingly long. They only have two people working there (possibly the owner + one employee) and I could tell that the person cooking the burgers was not experienced at all. They need to add at least one more person, if not two; they were telling the people who arrived after us that it was a 30+ minute wait for a single burger, which IMO is not reasonable at all. Additionally, the gentleman answering the phones, working the register, helping construct/wrap the burgers, etc. did not change his gloves once, which I don't think is appropriate at all. Please take off your gloves and replace with new ones after going from register back to food. Chicken sandwich: 3/5 from me & my bro Impossible burger: 3/5 from me & 1/5 from my bro Fries: 1/5 from both of us Parking & traffic in this area is an absolute nightmare. I'd also stay away if you're sensitive to weed smoke. Probably would not return even for the free burger through the app. read more
