I called to get my little girl in for a haircut and when I made the appointment I thought it was at a salon on Lancaster (as shown on maps) but it was in her living room of her house with her husband and dogs present. it was not a professional setting at all and me being the person I am felt uncomfortable walking out. She had my little girl climb into the chair and did her haircut and after charged us $45.00.......i was flabbergasted to say the very least. I went to have my card ran and then it cost me $52.00 (surcharge her husband said). Holy moly I would advise people to STAY AWAY from this "business". read more

This is the only place our son will go to see his nana and owner Mike. He has special needs and we met these 2 angels who is now like another family to us. It's not just about the fantastic hair cut. It's about treating others nicely and understanding children with special needs. We would never now go anywhere else. Cannot say enough nice things about the owners. They are just sweet caring souls. My toddler enjoyed getting his haircut thanks to the quality service we received. Felt like home there. He loved the special toddler seats and wasn't scared at all as she showed him the trimmer and airgun touching his hand and on his vehicle seat so he could get used to it first. They had a toddler movie ready to resume on a big screen TV and toys at the waiting area. We received a first haircut certificate which I'm sure grandma would love. Plus we we're invited to come back for a complimentary bbq for all their clients. How nice! The best thing is that unlike the only other place I could find in the Salem for kids haircuts, they didn't seem like they didn't need your business, ya know what I mean? We got an appointment the next day after I reached out to them. They didn't demand a credit card over the phone. They didn't lecture me or cancel my appointment when I came 3 minutes late. Was very happy with our service here. We waited only a moment for our appointment. The stylist (Maria, I think?) was very kind and patient with our rambunctious little five year old. Letting him pick the child seat he wanted, very sweetly introducing him to the sound and feel of the clippers before using them on his hair, and keeping him still and distracted by having him list off things he saw around the shop. There was also a few tvs, one playing a kids movie that he took to right away. He had quite a mop of hair to tame but we were in and out in half an hour including wait time and paying. Expressions is located in a small strip mall on Lancaster Drive and State St. We heard about Expressions from my fiance's father, who had been there several times and had nothing but rave reviews. My fiance had been needing a hair cut for a little while and we had some spare time this trip to Salem - so off we went. First impressions of the salon, were "wow, they've got a lot going on here!" Huge flat screen TVs, a bar, and tons of memorabilia of all sorts along the walls and ceiling. The salon is quite large, with two entrances from each side of the strip mall. I was pleased they had a long, church pew type bench for waiting customers - plenty of space with no crowding. Maria, the owner/manager was there with (presumably) her husband and daughter. We happened to be the only customers at the time, so of course my fiance was taken right in and asked what it would be today. He gave her the description he always give "fade with short, tight sides - spiky on top." He not only got probably the best cut he's had in years - but he also got an eyebrow trim, hot towel to the face, and a beard trim - all for a very reasonable price. The whole time Maria was pleasantly chatty, professional, and very precise. At the end, she even hugged him and told him to say hi to his father for her! This is the place we'll be going to get him is final cut for the wedding day for sure (and any time my man needs a cut)! read more

Awesome place- my 3.5 year old usually hates haircuts but they really go above and beyond here. They have service dogs that are so sweet and will sit with the child as a friendly diversion. The room is full of toys and things to look at or play with too, plus they have big screen TVs to put on something the child likes. Maria is wonderful, so sweet and patient! They are great for anyone who is nervous about haircuts, like adults with ptsd or kids on the spectrum. read more

I really was nervous to get my haircut by a new person. I was driving to Oregon City, where I used to live, and it just got to be a hassle. Maria is amazing with my daughter's ethnic hair. She really knows how to do ethnic hair like a pro! We have been to her salon many times since we discovered it last year, she has done amazing braids that have lasted for months, also nice hair cuts, and shares many tips along the way. I haven't gotten my hair cut in four years after a very bad experience with a jcpenny hair dresser. I came here trying to lighten my load of thick hair. I was super nervous but i put my hair in Maria's hands and she impressed me for sure. I'm happy with my new, and so much lighter hair cut. And I'm so excited to try something new! My husband and I brought our two boys here for the first time today and we couldn't be happier. Neither of our kids really like getting their hair cut but Maria was so patient and kind. Our youngest is especially sensitive about his hair being combed or cut and she did a great job making it fun and keeping him distracted.
