I had the chicken salad/salad which was very good. The chicken salad has walnuts and feta cheese in it which added to the taste. I have had the chicken salad sandwich before which was also good. Everything is made fresh each day. I had the sandwich on seeded rye bread which was fresh and huge. I ended up taking half the sandwich home. They also have soup which I haven't tried yet. Five star experience :) When we walked in the owner told us welcome Home. The girls working were really helpful helping us decide our order. They had salads that looked delicious & fresh. I forgot to get a picture but they have about 8-9 dressings to choose from. We had two with a club sandwich, one ham & cheddar & I got the Turkey bacon wrap with jalapeño ranch. We all loved it. I've been in Crossville for 3 years now, and I finally got around to trying Express Lunch. It did not disappoint. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and asked if we've ever been there before, and we were then told about the days specials. We ordered and got our food quickly. On a road trip from Texas to NC, we were sick of fast food, so I looked up a quick deli and Express Lunch was suggested. I am so glad that we took that suggestion because it was just what we were looking for! "Hi new best friends!" was our greeting as soon as we entered. They took the time to ask us how we were and where we were from. While we ate, it seemed like the staff knew everyone by name. It was evident the owners care about customers and customer service. My husband opted for the pre-made sandwich with chips and while we were in a hurry I wanted to try the Reuben. It was brought to me as soon as we got to the table- so go ahead and try a grilled sandwich option- either way is express! While we were eating, staff was stocking, cleaning and keeping busy. Found this little gem on Yelp and decided yo give it a try. After all, it was called express lunch. It was express with fresh, delicious products served by the nicest folks. I ordered a cup of tomato basil soup and an egg salad sandwich. It was delivered in under a minute time and was delicious! Can't tell you how glad I am that we drove through Crossville on the way home after Christmas. Also glad that two other restaurants on Main St were closed, because that allowed us to notice the Open sign outside this delightful gem Express Lunch. Rushed in just minutes before closing, but the nice lady working the counter was happy to make us anything we needed to go as we continued our journey home. For our picky 7 year old we got the Ham and Cheddar sandwich - a hit. I got the Chicken Salad sandwich and it was excellent. My wife ordered the Chicken Caesar Wrap and while she wouldn't trade me half for half of my sandwich, she let me have a bit and it was out of this world. As much as I liked the chicken salad, I was disappointed she wouldn't share with me. So next time I'm in Crossville, I'm definitely getting the wrap! They had fresh baked cookies at the counter, so I picked up some of those as well. According to my (again, picky) 7 year old, it was the best cookie he's ever had. My wife and I agree. The warmest welcome! The "humble servant" explained the menu and made the experience easy. Traveling with 3 children and wanted a good menu with out waiting long to eat. It may say express but the dine in was relaxing and comfortable for the family. Very clean restaurant and the staff was great. We had 3 different sandwiches, both soups, and a salad. I ate here today with a friend and upon entering was greeted by everyone of the employees including the owner. My chicken salad sandwich was horrible and when I asked for it to go, the owner asked if it was OK and I was honest and said it was horrible. He then offered to exchange it for something else and even though I had said no he insisted on an additional bowl of soup( I had ordered two to go). This is a very nice place. Had lunch here today. Chicken salad sandwich and gumbo. I am a Gulf Coast guy and not used to eating gumbo without shrimp, oysters and fish but then I remembered, I am in the mountains. Wonderful gumbo. And the chicken salad sandwich was very tasty. Osda. I normally give businesses two chances to make an impression on me. I am a jack of all trades, master of two and, well I was raised with etiquette. I was reluctant to do lunch there, but mom was meeting a friend and my son was hungry... compromises must be made. Upon entering, I noticed one of the owners ringing up two ladies. No eye contact, no, "thanks, have a nice day," and no acknowledgement of the consumers coming in to consume. I wasn't surprised, but had hoped my first visit was perhaps a bad day - they do exist - a bit too often for this establishment. I would rather did for grub on the courthouse lawn than eat there once again, but hey, if you can handle the thick lack of customer service, the strawberry feta salad is still yummy. ciao for now. read more
