Friends, there are a few large, LARGE purveyors of liquors in our fair city. And sometimes they…read moremight offer prices that can represent real value on sale (but almost never premium whiskey...my interest), and the expansive selection can satisfy the intrepid shopper looking for the most unusual label. But sometimes, aren't there rewards in patronizing the non-corporate neighborhood retails? I agree. And so, I choose to shop Thrifty Liquors on Heubner. Today I met the very gracious owners, Antonio and his wife, and they shared a few special iterations of whiskeys, iterations of which I had no prior knowledge. The very good surprise: Antonio offered samples of these iterations. Yes, samples of the whiskeys just as at the larger purveyors. Yelpers, I enjoy supporting local businesses, and for my money, this Thrifty location is convenient, staff is super friendly, and the owners offer insight of their libations that I consider important. Can I recommend this neighborhood purveyor? Definitely! Drop in if you are in the area. Perhaps your experience will be as rewarding as mine! Be well Yelpers!!

This place super surprised me, it is decked out with liquor from top to bottom, pretty much anything you could ask for. And if they don't have it, they'll get it, just for you. I was looking for a bottle of a special Asian wine, this location didn't have it but another did... and the owner, Paras, delivered it himself within an hour to the store. Owner, Paras, great person, super knowledgable, and way cool. It was Friday night and he had about 6-8 bottles out for samples and gave recommendations on best ways to drink and mix. Gotta try this place. And if you want "high-end" bottles, Paras is the man to talk to.

It had been awhile since our last visit & I had kept forgetting to use an old gift card. Angel could have immediately said "no, that gift card is old & we don't even sell physical cards anymore... I can't help you." She could have said "sorry, you will have to come back when the owner or manager is here". However, she did everything she could to find a way to make my gift card work. She looked it up on a site to confirm it had $20 on it for me. She found a way to apply it! She was amazing!!! Honestly, it's so rare that anyone goes the extra mile anymore that she just blew us away! Before I even told her we had a gift card she had helped me figure out that my favorite drink from years ago was called "She Ready"! It's not even on the menu anymore but she helped me figure it out! Then, she made us a virgin Miami Vice that we are now addicted to & my She Ready was better than I'd remembered! Now, our addiction is back! Thank you so much Angel! You have the perfect name!

Apparently the chef arrives at 4:30--yet 4:30 came and went, and he didn't show up until around 4:50, casually strolling in as if nothing was wrong. For a place that opens at 4, it's confusing that the kitchen isn't actually ready to operate. The spot has a lot of potential, but the management and coordination clearly need work. That said, the bartender was extremely friendly and professional--no issues there at all.
