The bowl had a nice large piece of chicken katsu, plenty of rice, egg, onions, shredded seaweed and a sweet soy sauce based sauce. I just had to wait a couple of minutes to be seated. Deluxe Tendon ($27.95): I could've gone for a negitoro bowl or some onigiri, but I stuck to the tempura bowl (tendon) instead. They serve it with miso soup, a great version full of green onions, and some pickles that are more like simply fermented veggies than anything really strong on the palate. Then you can unload a helpful small dish from the bowl and start placing tempura on it to add matcha salt, chili powder, and/or of course tempura sauce. The sauce dispenser actually restricts the flow so you can portion it slowly and modestly. The variety of proteins and veggies was fun, including standard shrimp, freshwater eel that eats a lot like white fish, and a small deboned and halved fish that was perhaps my favorite. The zucchini, kabocha, and even the nori and shiso are also battered and fried. Nothing was absolutely spectacular, but it was a fun, filling meal. Hojicha Latte ($3.95): creamy, reasonably flavorful, and certainly affordable. If you're sensitive to the chili powder and may have added a bit much to your bite, this will relieve the burn for sure. Yuzu Sherbet ($3.95): very reminiscent of, if not identical to, one of my favorite special desserts at their dead sister sushi spot back in the day. Smooth, creamy, full of yuzu flavor, and it's actually two small scoops rather than just one. Service was great, with iced water already served before I was even seated, orders taken quickly including last call, and dessert and check delivered promptly (possibly since it was almost closing time). The dining area is pretty modest, like their nearby ramen spot, but food comes out quickly and it's possible to turn over tables quickly too as long as people eat at a reasonable pace.
