Twice I have gone thru express professionals for employment. Both times were through the Mentor, Ohio location. First time before the pandemic. They kept messing up my pay. Instead of apologizing, they tried to blame. This partime, they placed me with Process Technology. Two days in, I was messaging my recruiter begging to be placed somewhere else. This place was and still is a factory of nothing but OSHA, I ended up hurting my right shoulder and was denied medical. My recruiter kept saying they had no jobs, yet was sending me job notifications asking me if I knew anyone who was looking to be placed. I said, me. He ignored. I also had to hound them for weeks to fix my pay. I then had to text them to tell them I was being harassed at the job by a coworker because Process Technology was not doing anything. I have all those conversations recorded. I continued to ask for a different placement constantly. I was actively looking for a new job, but most places use temp agencies. I ended up hurting my right shoulder again doing the same job that I had begged to be put elsewhere. I was not allowed in HR because you are only allowed after work hours and have to clock out. I need to be somewhere at 3 every day. Express Professionals is responsible for paying for my treatments, but they are not filling the proper paperwork. I have asked thru numerous texts for the number to contact the insurance and my claim number. Express Professionals, or shall I say the owner is refusing to help me get the care I need. Not to mention, the owner has a photography studio and asked me if I had a senior daughter who needs her pictures done. Why ask for a specific sex? That is predatory. The doctor and PT that I see believe I have a tear in my rotary cuff, but they can't properly treat me until they get an MRI. Had some free time this summer while interviewing for career office jobs, so I signed up with Express for some short-term projects. My 4-star review is lengthy, detailed, and based on my own very specific expectations, but I know how helpful this information will be to future applicants and so I hope you find it useful: * Originally, I was open to but not specifically interested in clerical work. However, I preferred to do some straight-forward hard work, see different parts of downtown Seattle, and not worry about learning someone's entire company in one-day before answering phones blind or other stressful scenarios. Express Employment Professionals fit that mold well. * They were up-front with me about what they could offer, which is called "light industrial" or "commercial" work. These terms mean physical labor without special skills for between $10-$13 an hour. * Shifts ranged from 6-10 hours a day. Once the support staff had approval to give me assignments, I had the opportunity to work between 2-5 days per week based on their demand and my availability. The Express staff were friendly, respectful, patient, and sincere in wanting to make sure assignments worked for me and for their clients. I usually coordinated with them by text message and they were pretty reliable in returning inquiries on a same-day basis. * The projects I did were mostly 1-3 days long and included moving/installing office-furniture in downtown high-rises, loading/unloading pallets in warehouses, and some random jobs for companies that had a specific need for an extra pair-of-hands. About half the companies ended up asking me to return for an extra day if they needed it. Other Express co-workers were given longer assignments based on their availability, how long they had worked at Express, and good feedback from prior assignments. * The companies/sites I was assigned to varied in their organization, care, facilities, and pleasantness. As far as I'm concerned, that's not surprising for temp-work. If I had a job I wasn't really enjoying, it didn't bother me much as I knew I would be elsewhere in a day or two. If there was a rare/more serious issue, such as not being able to meet the physical demands of a specific project or being assigned to a location I couldn't easily get to, the Express staff were more than willing to have someone else switched-in the next day. Most jobs were within a 1/2-mile of a major bus line. * I would recommend always bringing a light bag with a pair of decent work-gloves, a pair of plastic safety glasses, a box-cutter, a safety mask, a back-brace, a water bottle, and a brown-bag lunch. I rarely needed any of these things, but companies don't always remember to mention everything you'll need or have it on-site. Instructions will often include wearing work-boots or sneakers, a black/dark t-shirt with no logos, and blue jeans with no rips/tears. Remember to take/print extra time-slips in advance and have them with you for yourself or a co-worker. * Co-workers were often nice people to work with. Many were young kids on break from school, had recently moved to Seattle, or just guys looking for something steady. Work-ethics varied a little, but everyone was physically up-to-the-task and no one left me doing all the hardest work unless I specifically offered. * Employers occasionally do take an interest in you. If they like the work you do, they may ask you if you'd like to come on-board with them. If so, they have to go through Express to arrange that. I was asked twice and would have enjoyed working with the last one who invited me, but I was already headed for a desk job elsewhere by that time. * You get paid weekly for the previous week worked. Checks are mailed out on Fridays or held for pick-up if you request it. There is no delay in the first check. It's important to take a camera-phone picture of your completed and signed time-slips for your reference. Some time-slips are given to you to send in, others are sent in directly by the company. * The hardest part is just finding the address for each assignment, so always give yourself an extra 15-minutes and have a site contact to call if needed. Some sites will be a little off-the-map. Others will ask you to meet them at the place you'll be working, but it won't be immediately clear where to find them once you get there. Once or twice I even arrived and found the site locked-up until I found a back entrance where the team was gathering. Overall, it was a good experience. I got everything I wanted out of it and greatly enjoyed my contacts with the Express office staff. Hope it works out for you too. read more

Very unprofessional and rude. After completing my online application I waited a few days for a phone call, which never came. I called the office several times a day for three days and always got a message assuring me that my call was important to them. I left several messages and never heard back from anyone. On the fourth day I finally got someone to answer the phone. I mentioned that I had left several messages. I didn't get an apology or the feeling that she even cared. She asked me if I filled out an online application. She looked it up and said they received it, asked me a few questions, and told me Hope is very busy but would call me back to set up an interview. That was over a month ago and I have not heard from anyone since. This office is a complete waste of time. read more

I was skeptical about yet another employment agency as I haven't had much luck in the past or great experiences. I've had other agencies that said they would contact me but never did and when I would contact them they weren't friendly or helpful and never had anything to offer. How is it that an employment agency has no jobs to offer?! I was pleasantly surprised when going in to meet Amanda at the Lynnwood location. After talking about me, my skills and what I was looking for, she already had a job in mind for me and I ended up starting the next week! Amanda was extremely easy to talk with, warm and friendly throughout the process as well as incredibly knowledgeable. While in a management role with MultiServ, I worked with the owner, Michael, and the team at Express for almost three years as a client. My employer, MultiServ, a Division of Harsco (HSC), was a permanent on site contractor for Nucor Steel-Seattle and Levy (short for The Edw. C. Levy Company) now has this contract with Nucor. Express never failed to meet or exceed every expectation when providing employees to our location. Reliability: There were times we needed to quickly add personnel for a new project or an increase in production, as well as a few when we were not able to provide them with a significant notice, and their team always pulled through. I can remember a few times calling as late as 4:30pm with an emergency request for personnel on clean-up projects and they would have a crew waiting at the front gate at 6:00am the next morning ready to go to work. Professionalism: Express is dedicated to understanding a client's needs and is both thorough and consistent with follow through. Before signing our contractual agreement, Michael and two of his lead recruiters visited our facilities, met with select members of our permanent crew to interview them on what is required and what to expect while on location, and spent several hours watching the various tasks and responsibilities of each job they would be finding staff for in the future. Whether sending a small group for a small project or sending individuals for temp-to-hire as eventual permanent placement employees, they took the extra time needed to find the right staff for the job. An added benefit with Express is their honesty when their current group of available candidates are not the right fit for the position. They placed ads, at no additional cost, to find the right employee for the job on our behalf. Paperwork: In two and a half years, with an average weekly payroll to Express in the tens of thousands, I have to say that payroll was a breeze. Both temps and temporary-to-hires clocked in and out on our time cards; we entered the data into an Excel spreadsheet and emailed it Express each Monday. The only time we had error in payroll, or an unhappy employee after opening their check, was when we submitted faulty data to Express. Although the errors were our fault, Express never questioned or placed blame and immediately cut a check to the employee - usually driving to our location to deliver payment so they employee didn't have to go out of their way. So, spent $30 in gas to get to this place, 2 hours driving on I-5 $6 bridge fare and $2 for parking in Seattle, had 5 tie ups on I-5 and took forever to get a parking spot, I was 17 minuets late and the front desk "lady" with the crayon red hair doo said I would have to reschedule and come back tomorrow. ""( like this is all I have to do during the day ) I stated my reasoning but upon her decision said no without even checking with her boss, then proceeded to tell me there was an office in my home town, that would have been nice to know when I applied for the position online, If you want to waste your time and waste your money this is the place for you, I will NEVER EVER be looking for employment through Express Personnel ever again. Horrible experience, bad taste in mouth for your company now. Cold, no empathy, unconsidering, like talking to a robot. In reading comments I see 1/3 negative about this office, lots of replies of apologies but it seems nothing improved, take it for what it is I suppose. read more

Very rude. Unfortunately this is a franchise company where this business model does not allow one hand to talk to the other. Very archaic. For example: billing is not consolidated, you have to call different franchises to chase your bill down. I am an employer who thought that for once, rather than to do it all myself, it might be a good idea to hire a professional employment service to advertise, screen and test applicants. When I met Michael for the first time, I thought I had met someone who truly understood my needs and was genuinely interested in finding me the best possible candidate. I was wrong on both counts. Michael failed to produce a "temp" to fill the position temporarily until I hired a full-time person and he produced only three candidates for me to interview. The first two had not been given a skills test. He tested the third after I insisted that I needed to know their skill set before interviewing them. I lost over a month's worth of time waiting to Michael to produce a candidate. His excuse was that he had to deal with some unexpected issues. Not acceptable! He played the "you can understand as a small business owner" card far too many times. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Express to other employers. read more

It's amazing how many companies don't understand how customer service works. I went to Express Employment the other day and met with a recruiter who clearly didn't want to be there. I was sent to take the assessment test and did poorly on one part. After the test the Recruiter didn't even come out and explain anything to me. She stayed in her office while she told the receptionist to give me a list of other temp agencies in the area. I would recommend going to literally any other temp agency if you want to feel like a human and not a number read more

I was referred to Express last summer - and was planning my move to Seattle sometime around the holidays. At that time, I spoke to a nice recruiter - who had me send her my resume and asked that I call back around Nov. to schedule an interview to get me all signed up. I had high hopes, but when I got here in Dec. and called to schedule an interview - I talked to someone else who abruptly told that I needed to apply online and they would call me if they wanted me and that they didn't have my resume on file and had NO positions for me! I'm not sure what happened but they sure didn't seem interested in hearing anything I had to say - crazy! I have good sales and admin support experience and felt embarrassed to have even called them! I joined the Shoreline office after finding out that my company was getting rid of my position as a Stockroom Manager. Signing up was easy, I met with them a day after filling out the application. On the initial phone call, my contact person there told me she had a full time position open with good pay and that I fit all the requirements. When I met her in person however, she said that they had filled that position before she even told me about it. I didn't appreciate her getting my hopes up like that and then finding out that she only had temporary positions left when I met her in person. At our initial meeting, I told her I was looking for full time, permanent positions but she called me twice with temporary jobs that were only two days each and that I would have to start the next day for both. I turned both down because I was still doing my final two weeks at my current job and couldn't take time off that fast. I never heard from her again even though she had told me to check in with her once a week. I sent her four emails- the first email I sent got an automatic reply saying she was out of the office for the week for vacation and the next three never got any replies. I tried calling her a couple of times but never got a hold of her. After two months of not hearing anything and getting interviews on my own, I received a fairly decent job offer from one of the places I interviewed at. I emailed my contact at Express to let them know I had Fond a job, and in response I got an email sending me a link to their sign up page. After another final email, I finally got a voice mail from her congratulating me and telling me to refer any friends that are looking for jobs to her. I will not be doing that. read more

Can we say "UNPROFESSIONAL". I highly recommend everyone to stay away from this temp agency!! I was hired on to a temp to perm position, which I was told I would be signed after 90 days. Once I hit the 90 days I touched base with the staffing agent who had been helping me. He said he would have a meeting with the office I had been working for in regards to my employment with them. Weeks went by. I had to chase him down to get an answer. I soon left due to lack of communication (I never got an answer). During the process I had run into issues with other staffing agents that had MGR Rolls in the downtown Seattle office regarding my checks, drug tests, replying back to messages and so forth! My first 30 days at this job I hadn't taken any kind of drug test let alone aware that I needed to take one. The Employer that I had been working for had to send me home for the day we found out this had not been address. So I lost out on practically a whole days worth of pay and then on the edge on knowing if I was going to be back to this position due to the fact the Employer had been lied to and was not happy with this staffing agency!!! Once my test was clean of course they liked me so much they wanted me to come back. I also ran into situations with checks not being run properly. I would get my check with the wrong amount of pay, less than what I was supposed to be getting. They pay you weekly so if they messed up you would not get it until your next check and so forth. My last week of work I was expecting to receive my check in the mail I had updated my address so I could get it on time. A week went by and I did not get it. I called to see what was up. They read the wrong address back, so I expected them to at least cut me a check thinking they knew they were wrong for that. Since that would just be the RIGHT thing to do!!! No instead they told me if they did not get this check back in 30 days they will then issue a VOID and then it will take another week for me to get the check!!!!!(This was all after I was told "YUP LOOKS LIKE IT MUST BE LOST IN THE MAIL" in a PERKY TONE) I was FURIOUS!!! All I can say, if you are responding to an add from this company or deciding to give them a try......PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T DO IT!!!! YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME! read more

We were interested to get their franchise for Toronto. We were Mislead by franchise director Mr. Fred. They did not honor their word as per advertisement of that the first 30 franchisees will get $30,000 back upon signing the agreement. In our case we were introduced by Franchise consultant and Express had to pay their commission. So they realized later and gave us negative answer that they don't find "US" the right fit for the business. We have 20 yrs of retail business experience .More over we were qualified in their few initial interviews. After one month they find us not the right fit ! They have no right to insulted experienced business people. Their area developer in Ontario name Ted play big role who also owns few locations.Not a good company to do business. This review is for the SHORELINE branch of Express Employment Professionals. Five stars for being AWFULLY UNPROFESSIONAL! I applied to a job I thought I was over qualified for via Craigslist. I had been out of work for a couple months, and at this point was okay with any mid-level job. I get a call from a lady who was "eager" to get me work, and had asked me to come in 30 minutes from the time she called me to go over the available position. I get to the office before the time asked, and no one is at the front desk to help. A man in his office just stares at me and ignored the fact I am there (awkward). Finally a woman from around the corner greets me and is quick to get me filling out paper work , and asking really basic questions. I instantly felt she thought she had some authority over me or was judging me without even looking over the important parts of my resume or the fact I was probably the only person that has ever dressed up nicely to go to a staffing agency. She didn't let me explain much about prior work, and seemed skeptical at all answers I would give her. She was a very odd and uncomfortable woman to work with. The job was for an order fulfillment position, which is something I have lots of experience with (not to mention the fact I have a Bachelors degree), lots of volunteer work,customer service experience, and three years order fulfillment experience. Not to toot my own horn, but I am a college educated woman, I am not idiot. After 35 minutes of filling out paperwork , she said I would be doing an order fulfillment test. She said I would have to finish the test in six minutes and then she would happily consider me for this position. In my head I was thinking "This seems like a silly way to test my abilities (is my work experience not enough?), but I will go along with it anyway" . I do the test in 9 minutes apparently (but finish with no mistakes). She comes over and kind of cringes and says something along the lines of " eeeyeaaah you were a little slow, but hmmm, I think I can make a case for you to the owner of the company, because you have prior experience". Again. She acted as if she had some authority over me, and because I was there I was a total, complete idiot. After the test her co-worker asks how I did jokingly. She actually said "yeah she was a little slow' RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! At this point I was trying not to show my embarrassment for how unprofessional this woman was. I left this place seriously doubting my faith in humanity. I never got a call from this place, but I think I might have dodged a bullet.
