I've used Express Alterations on a regular basis and their service is always excellent with a very quick turnaround time - as other people have mentioned as well. I've had them alter bridesmaid dresses and wedding gowns, or just my jeans and trousers. They'll ask you when you need it by and make sure to complete it a week before you actually need it. I also like that it's in the mall, which is pretty central to where I live and where I work so it's quite convenient. Everything from hem pants to alter my daughter's beauty pageant gowns and suits. A most recent project was to make a Wonder Woman Holloween Costume Dress fit so I could wear it as a formal on a cruise. She did amazing!! Completely rebuilt the shirt and shortened sleeves, etc. I highly recommend them and if possible, try to give them a few extra days to complete the job because they have so many last-minute rushes and wedding alterations. Used to be great. They recently have extended wait times on a simple 1 inch hem repair to a week or more. The tank I took in last week for a inch repair on the seam they ripped out the entire hemming on it and then did not reattach the lining when they re-sewed it... I asked them why they took the whole he,m out for a simple small 1 inch repair and she couldnt really say why other than to tell me she "couldnt make it work". I told her she had ruined my shirt, it was no longer wearable with the loose lining just hanging there (Its a tight, lyrca tank, kind of like an undershirt for fitted cardigans). She would not refund me the $12 I paid to get a small seam fixed and pretty much didnt care that I could no longer use the shirt. At the time I picked up the tank in the previous paragraph I was supposed to be dropping off a vest with a small rip in the side seam. She said "Well, you can hand stitch this yourself.", I replied that if I was able to do it myself why would I be coming there to pay her to do it?? DUH? Very frustrating. Work is **usually** satisfactory but customer service has been so bad that I wont be back at all now. read more

Life Tip #6: Always wear pants to a job interview. The kind lady with the gruff exterior at Express Alterations in the Vancouver Mall helped me get a job because without her, I might of been in a pair of tidy whities and little hopes of making a positive first impression. The look might of been good for Michael Keaton trending in Birdman, but I don't recommend it for any jobs in Clark County. I had flown to Vancouver, WA with my new blue suit pressed and ready to go for a 8:00 a.m. interview the next day ... only to discover that I'd left my pressed new blue suit pants at home. Luckily, I discovered this around 6:00 p.m., so, I frantically drove to the mall, rushed into Macy's and over-paid for another suit immediately. Whew ... except the pants weren't hemmed. So, I grabbed the suit and headed out into the mall to find the "alterations place." It is Express Alterations on the 1st floor ... and luckily (again) it really was express. The older lady working there was busy with a couple wedding fittings and the even older lady in back was busy sewing away. They were backed up. At first she said it'd take a couple days to finish ... uh-oh ... but after explaining my situation she sighed and said "ok." Thank you, thank you. thank you. I popped into the small changing area with a flimsy curtain, tried on the pants, let her mark them, and then hit the mall to wait for 90 minutes. I came back in 75. The pants were ready. Paid $17 for the express service. They looked good. I was happy. Life was gonna be ok, after all. Exhale ... P.S. The job interview went really well ..., but nobody even mentioned my pants. I'm sure they were just as thankful as me that I was wearing them. read more

My daughter's Dad took her to get 2 pairs of pants hemmed for a new job. My daughter and I went to pick them up. We had our slip; the woman took it and went looking. She came back twice to ask what she was looking for (2 pairs of black pants). The place was a disaster, no order to anything, piles of clothes everywhere. After about 10 minutes of looking she gave up and passed it to another woman. Back to the questions again, black pants? 2? Jean's? After about 5 minutes she found one pair. Finally found the second pair, and told us to come back in 20 minutes. We came back in about 30minutes and they were done, but no apologies, no offer of a discount. My daughter hasn't tried them on yet, hopefully they are right. Would NOT recommend going there! read more

These owners are terrible, they don't guarantee their work and will charge you even if they make a mistake on your alterations to fix their own mistakes, I went in about 4 weeks ago and had work done on 2 suits. After about 4 weeks their stitching came apart, and on the second suit I had a few holes in the pockets that needed a quick mending, they fixed one hole but not the other. When confronted about not doing the work that I was charged for and that their stitching came apart, they denied it being their fault and wanted to charge me full price again. I brought my three dresses in to be shortened for a trip. I was told they would take a week and was given a ticket with the amount owed. I show up at my time to pick up my dresses, I am told they didn't have time to do the dresses . She didn't call me during that time to let me know . I was told this when arrived . She didn't see anything wrong with this. I will never go again. I had two days to find a different place to go. AWFUL SERVICE !!! read more

Express Alterations has many mixed reviews but funny enough it kind of reminds me of the places I've worked with back in Los Angeles. They're not the cheapest, but their hours and location make it convenient. Open until 9pm during the week when most places close between 4 and 6pm was the best thing to help accommodate my work hours. Please be aware I wasn't looking for any crazy extensive work, simply adjusting the length of some awesome jeans I found on sale at the Nordstrom Rack in Portland. I walked in, was greeted by an Asian woman busy altering another garment. She quickly told me to get into one of the rooms and put the jeans on. About 1 minute later I meet her at the mirror and she throws down a pillow for her knees and pins and marks the jeans. I had the option for the original stitch or generic. I didn't care as they were pretty plain pants. Dropped them off and they were ready 4 days later (could have been faster but I wasn't in a hurry). Total $11.90. Although service is important, what I care about most is finished product. They are short, to the point, and as a business man I appreciate that. I will return next time I need some alterations done. read more

My son had a pair of dress pants that needed to be hemmed and they needed to be done the next day. We took them into Express Alterations, they had my son put the pants on, marked them and then they hemmed them perfectly for us. They were done and waiting at the pick up time we were given. I could not have asked for better or faster service. Several months later I had a bridesmaid dress that needed to be taken in. It was a hard alteration to do because of how the dress was made and how it needed to be taken in. I heard they did a great job on fancy dresses so I thought I'd let them do it. They did a wonderful job on the alteration and you could not tell the dress had been altered at all. It was a fraction of the price it would have been to have it done at the wedding shop and it was done in a matter of days, not weeks! read more

This business is highly unprofessional with very poor customer service. I came in since my mom is a regular customer and thought to try this place to get my favorite dress fixed. This is my first experience using this alteration service too. My dress was supposed to be ready for pick up and when I arrived the lady could not find my dress. I also had my pickup ticket in hand with my info. She had a rude demeanor and told me to wait another 15-20 minutes while she searched for my dress. I kept waiting patiently as other customers were helped and I was ignored for 30 minutes. I asked what was taking so long, and she told me I had to wait another hour because she could not find my dress and I was annoyed at that point. She made me wait an extra hour but still could not find my dress. So I'm upset at this point and explained calmly but firmly that this dress is one of a kind since I bought it on vacation and is an expensive dress, it isn't replaceable so I'd appreciate an apology. The lady replied back sarcastically, "I apologize but I'm frustrated too!" This lack of diplomacy and disrespect made me angry and she tells me I should wait another hour for her to find the dress. My patience was low and I told her I would like a reduced discount for this poor customer service and that she can call me when she finds my dress because I'm not willing to wait another hour. The only reasonable thing she did at that point was say, "Ok, I will call you later today when I find it and won't charge you." So I never got a call back and I had to call them the next day to follow up about my dress. They finally had my dress ready and didn't charge me. Overall, I'm disappointed with the whole experience with how I was treated and suggest to other future customers to not use their service because you can find other businesses where they're respectful, kind and professional towards their customers. Also a suggestion would be to create a more organized and efficient system for your clothes so they can be found quickly, so customers don't have to wait a long time. read more

Recent weight loss prompted me (prior to a cruise) to seek either a new suit, or a significant alteration on my current one. Since I'd only worn it twice, and it was one I'd like to wear more (don't wear suits often), I sought out this establishment. The alteration/measurement process was quick and efficient, and in a few days (they advertise same day service available, but I wasn't in a hurry) I returned to pick up the suit. I came here to get a quick alteration on my medical laboratory jacket. It is tucked away by the entrance of Sears. I was skeptical at first because the reviews are not so good. They did a really good job! I am very happy with the way my coat turned out. It was done overnight and cheaper than most of the other places that I visited for an alteration. Most disorganized chaotic nightmare ever. Took my daughter's prom dress to get altered. They needed to take in the side and hemm. They told me to come back one week later for the sides and then they would do hem. When I returned a week later for dress fitting it hadn't been done. They told me to come back in an hour, so after they held the dress for a week, i have to roam the mall and come back to pick up the dress while they do it in that hour. Then I needed to return the following week after they did the hem. So when I go to pick up the dress my daughter tries it on and the hem is cut but still pinned at bottom and not sewn. it hadn't been done after they've had it for another week. Again I was to return an hour later while they did the hem. So they had the dress for 2 weeks and didnt have the job done until we got there both times. Then they recharged me and said i hadn't paid when I had paid up front when I dropped off the dress. They had no record of my payment and i didn't have a receipt so i had to pay again because my daughter needed her dress and now I have to go look for the statement which shows I had paid previously and return with proof for a refund! So frustrating!!! I would rather drag my dress all night than deal with these people again. read more

Horrible experience with this business. Took my granddaughter's new dress in to be altered 2 weeks ago. We bought the dress just a couple shops down from the alteration place and if the dress couldn't be altered could return the dress. The lady that helped us was not very nice to say the least but assured us that yes it could be fixed. She pinned the sides and the front part in the chest area and told us it would cost $45 because the front was lined which would involve more time to fix and the zipper would have to be removed and put back in after the sides were taken up. She said it would be done in 2 weeks. We returned today at 4:00 to pick up the dress the same lady helped us when we told her the name she said it wasn't to be picked up until tomorrow we said no it was to be ready today. We showed the slip saying indeed it was to be ready by 4:00 on 4/27/17. She couldn't seem to find the dress once she did nothing had been done when I asked why I was told they were behind because of prom. Well we brought the dress in exactly 2 weeks ago and nothing was mentioned about it being prom season. We were told to come back in an hour I'm not sure how they planned on doing the alterations in one hour that was going to take them 2 weeks to do. We returned in an hour and half only to find that they had removed all the pins from the front of the dress and only took in the side seams which made the dress too tight. When we complained about not having completed what they said they would do we were told they couldn't fix it. My daughter asked why they said they could fix it in the first place her comment didn't get any reaction at all. The ladies answer was she would take out side seams end of story but once my granddaughter took off the dress my daughter noticed there was food all over the inside of the dress. Now remember we bought the dress from a store a couple doors down brought it directly to express alterations. When asked if the eat while they sew we were told no never but somehow the dress had food all over it. The lady told my daughter that if we wanted it fixed properly it would cost us $150 and would take another 2 weeks because she was going on vacation. We took the dress and left. Think twice before you take anything to express alterations to he fixed. Horrible horrible experience. read more
