This restaurant is located in Sundridge right on the main highway. It's worth taking the turn off…read moreHighway 11 to this quiet gem of a restaurant. It is quite unique and the decor a bit eccentric along with the owner Will. He is at times a one man show, he takes the order, cooks it up and serves you. I recommend the large mushrooms deep fried in a light batter served with a delectable sauce for an appetizer, great for sharing. Order a small for 2-3 or a large for 4-6. The Classic Schnitzel is a great dish to start for a first timer. Come hungry because the portions are very big. The wine selections are excellent. Will knows his wines. Warning ...wine by the glass portion sizes are on the small side, I recommend buying by the bottle for a party of 2-4. Desserts and cafe bar are just as excellent, that is, if you have any room left after the appetizer and dinner. Pricing is more than fair for the portion sizes and quality of the food. He does accommodate drop ins, however I highly recommend calling ahead for a reservation, with being a one man show at times, he limits his guest allowance to give his customers the best experience possible. Thanks Will for another awesome evening at your restaurant.

The place has an eccentric, kitschy vibe and the experience is one-of-a-kind. Will happily return the next time we are in Sundridge.

We got a chance to try this Top100 restaurant in the village of Flesherton on our way to visit…read moreBruce Peninsula. It's a good pit stop on an otherwise long drive. Let me start with the good. The ingredients were very fresh, local, and seasonal. The dishes were sometimes surprising and definitely let the ingredients shine. I can understand why it made the Canada's top 100 list. So, why only 3 stars? Because the first rule of running a restaurant was broken - feed your guests enough food! We were 2 adults and.a.sick 6 year old - we should not need to order 2 apps and 4 mains and still be not completely full! The problem with small portion size is not just an expectation gap, it also disrupts the entire flow of the meal since the guest would need to order more food and then wait a long time for it to be prepared. So while this restaurant serves good food, the overall experience did not meet my expectation of a Top100 restaurant.

We've tried The Gate restaurant lately during a trip to Bruce county. As a restaurant on the top…read more100 list, this place offers decent but not wowing quality of food. The portion was mini and it's not worth spending 100+ per person for just an okay restaurant. The service was also slow. We had to wait long for the food to be served after the food was ready and waited ridiculously long for the bill. We ordered sourdough bread, tuna crudo, ox tail, semolina pasta, baby turnip and pickerel. The sourdough was served cold which upsets my stomach. The crudo was delicious and went really well with the blueberry. The ox tail was tasty but there's only invisible amount of ground ox tail one can find. The pasta dish was literally as mini as a couple of bites. The pickerel was cooked okay but again super small portion. The turnip was good with the sweet and sour taste although I wasn't a big fan of this vegetable. Overall, the dish was with okay quality but it's just not worth how much it costs considering the portion of valuable ingredients they used. I would only like to revisit if they can fine-tune the portion issue.
