I enjoyed date night at the Foundry Food Hall with the BF. We hit up three spots to get food from and Expat was the last stop on the list. Expat is not your traditional BBQ restaurant. You can smell the BBQ from the outside as your walking into the food hall. It's a very unique and eclectic atmosphere. I love the downstairs, definitely want to sit at the bar and eat. We opted out of sitting at the bar downstairs and walked the three flights to eat upstairs on the roof top. We came on a Friday night and there was live music which was awesome. We were able to grab a bar table in front of the musicians. We grabbed a few cocktails from the bar which were good. The BF said when he ordered our second round of drinks at the bar, the bartenders was rude. When I initially ordered our first round I didn't have any issues. We ordered a half slab of ribs with cornbread and cucumber salad. As well as a pulled lamb dish. The ribs were the star of the show. Pork ribs with 5 spice rub, brushed with a mustard glazed, topped with Szechuan Whiskey BBQ & chili crisp. These ribs are absolutely Devine!! Flavorful, tender and unique. The sides are highly lacking. The cucumber salad was bland as all get-out. I expected either they were in a vinegar and onionin bath or at least an Italian dressing. It was just thinly sliced cucumbers with not even any salt or pepper. I mean just overall horrible. The cornbread was ok with the whipped butter, could have been better if it was served warm. The pulled lamb was literally just OK, no flavor at all, no seasoning, no accompaniments, no nothing. I would suggest to eat downstairs if you want your food served hot. We will definitely return to try additional dishes because we completely forgot to order the fried cheese curds. And the ribs are definitely worth a return visit.

I love the open concept of Expat BBQ at the City Foundry Hall. Most of the experience is self-service and I really like how I can get sauces, utensils, water, carryout boxes, etc. on my own. Ordering is easy through the QR code, and make sure to remember to close your tab to avoid a 20% fee at the end of the day. You can choose your own tables and seats, and large groups can use their large room spaces. It was perfect for my birthday group gathering! What's also great is that they are open to guests ordering food from anywhere in the food hall and eating inside their space. What an excellent way of opening options to guests! Only reason I had to dock off one star was because their prices are very high. I ordered a side of brisket and potato salad, which came close to $25. Taste was great though, so it was overall worth the excellent experience we had!!

My visit here was for a Happy Hour. First off, the ambiance of the place is fantastic. LOVE the big, old factory setting! The food was delicious, though definitely not inexpensive. I'm glad I got the Happy Hour pricing of the Brisket Mac and it WAS delicious. It's hard to rate a place like this for service, because you're doing your own ordering and paying. They do bring it to your table, but that's it. Overall, an enjoyable visit. Would love to come back and head to the rooftop to try a MEAL.

I thought Expat was a good spot and I enjoyed being on the terrace floor. The service was okay but a little scattered having an online ordering system. This is a great spot if you want unique and good bbq with a nice vibe! Tried: Slay tray (ribs, wings, cheese curds), brisket, NA Original sin cider, NA Cerveza Loved: I especially liked the slay tray. The jerk wings with the pineapple habanero sauce that came with it went really well together. The ribs were seasoned well, and the cheese curds were amazing - sweet and spicy. The top floor terrace is really pretty and the restaurant overall is nice. Liked: the brisket was good but I wish there were more bbq options on the third floor to try with it, and the brisket was less fatty Disliked: the prices were a bit

Went in to meet up with group for Happy Hour. Stuck to that menu which offered about 4 snacks, wine, beer and cocktails. Self service at bar for these choices. At table, URL service from regular menu. Only had a glass of Happy Hour wine, but enjoyed watching others enjoy some appetizers. Seating is in open foundry setting. although had a small more secluded area nearby. No frills at Foundry but some good food to be had such as at Expat BBQ.

Stopped by for a pre-movie lunch. This is not a counter service place. Seated at a table inside. Friendly and attentive staff visited us a number of times. Complimentary chips and salsa were a nice touch. Chips were fresh and the salsa was tasty! Unique peppers gave it a great taste. What we ordered: - Smoked Fattoush Salad with Turkey added (4.25/5): the misses loved this salad. Nice flavors and filling. Perfect for lunch. - kale salad with Turkey (4/5): wish I could have lamb with this. Tasty salad, and hearty. I do think they could marinade / soften the kale a bit. One concern: the conveyer belt setup downstairs to transport food upstairs is loud and distracting. Otherwise, we loved the space.

Adding to my initial review. We have visited regularly since the roof top patio grand opening. It is one of my favorite Hallmark holiday or family time out. Any sunny/breezy day and looking to enjoy a patio + good BBQ, then l 99 percent recommend.

First all, we chose the terrace on the 3rd floor. It's a totally different level of service up stairs than downstairs in the restaurant. You will not be waited on at the terrace. You have to order with a QR code for food and you have to go to the bar and stand in line for a drink. Not fun if you have a group of people. Someone is sitting at the seats while others grab the drinks. Just odd. You grab your own water and utensils and paper trays at a station. Service interactions were not good. (3p-6p on a Wednesday) . Not the friendliest staff during our visit on multiple interactions even when asking questions. (Group of 6) if you are running a tab, you must go to your table and order food first before you can go to the bar to run a tab and add the drinks... so many rules!! They don't make it easy to spend your money! The terrace was nice. Great breeze, big fans and nice low seating for a casual drinks and dinner. They have live music some nights. There is a roof so you're protected if it rains. It's cool to see how the food is brought up from the lower floors. Now to the food. We had a variety of appetizers. Our favorite was the hot Nashville cheese curds and the wings. So good!!! Nachos were good (yes those are carrots and radishes on the nachos). The popovers were too doughy and meh. Hush puppies were a bit dry. Nice drink selection. Drinks not on the menu were not as you would typically expect. But the other drinks listed were good. So would I recommend it? Yes. Just know before you go. We were wanting a bit more service on the terrace and that just is not an option.

Our meals were OK. We've been wanting to try this place and it didn't disappoint. Cool fusion concept, you can actually taste the international flavors - no gimmick on the name Expat. Tried the lamb, ribs, jalapeño Mac n cheese, cornbread, and fries.

Happy Hour - Brazilian cheese puffs, brisket mac, kale salad

Big fan! I love Niche Group restaurants and this one did not disappoint either. In the past we have grabbed bbq sandwiches (turkey and brisket) to go, and each were filling and packed with flavor... but this time went in for happy hour/date night. The staff and bartenders were all kind and friendly, and provided input on menu items when asked. The HH menu is a great option for sharing several food items and also leaving full. We sat up on the rooftop -- it was heated, family friendly with games, and also had tv's with sports on. We got to listen to a live band while we ate and chatted, and it didn't feel too loud... big plus! We are already excited to come back! My personal favorite from the HH menu was the kale salad. I also don't eat a lot of meat, but tried the brisket mac... it was a holy experience. If you have had the Trader Joe's Brazilian cheese bites, Expat does the non-frozen kind, and they are delicious, cheesy, and chewy. Get them!

Stopped in for lunch. Of the places at The Foundry - this one lured us in because we wanted to go in and sit somewhere rather than in the "food court". Full bar - good draft beer options - knowledgeable bar staff - good local selections. BBQ generally isn't my "go-to" but since I was at a BBQ joint I wanted to try it. It was delicious. However they have non-BBQ type options on the menu as well. The vibes were great - as I first stated - having never been to the City Foundry before - we chose this place over other options because it looked inviting and cozy. I don't know the vibes here at night - but I definitely would've felt comfortable taking kids here at the time we were there (afternoon) and there is plenty on the menu for everyone. Really my only critique of this place is they don't have traditional servers - so you have to go to the bar every time you want a drink - but it wasn't inconvenient at the time I was there. We would definitely return to sample more of the menu items.

This place has great atmosphere. The food has enough flavors. The staff were friendly. I would definitely return here.

I swear the minute you entered the foundry area you could smell the barbecue from this establishment. Very well marked signage Cocktails and BBQ! Very hard to miss. Definitely the place to be. We found a place at the bar and were kindly greeted by Donna. She was pleasant, knowledgable, and enjoyed what she did. We had Margaritas and my husband had the sorghum lager. Delicious! We ordered the slay tray and then the world tour. Everything was perfect. The chicken wings, the ribs, the macaroni and fried cheese cutds were on point but my favorite was the turkey YUMMMMMMM! It was like trying to pick a favorite star in the heavens at this place. It really was a delight to your palate. Highly recommend stopping in.

I really liked the decor and the cool vibe. We ordered the spicy chicken katsu Sando and it was delicious. The meat was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The Sando came with the side of fries. We got the togarashi fries and they were so addicting. Fries were not as crispy but very well seasoned and went perfect with the aioli sauce. We also tried the pork katsu rice bowl. I didn't like the sauce as much as the chicken Sando but it was still pretty good. I liked that the rice was well-cooked. You must try their ice cream. I would have come just for it alone. They have a good variety of flavors. My favorite was the miso taro and the yuzu caramel. The staff were very nice to us and the food came out quick. Highly recommend you guys checking this place out.

Bf got the regular chicken katsu bowl and I went with the pork tonkatsu sando. Similar flavors but just depends on if you like using your hands or working with a fork. Feel like he got the right choice (but you miss out on bread if you go with the bowl) I think our favorite part was the fries, great seasoning and perfectly crisp outside.
