Their bird selection is pretty impressive and for the most part all their animals seems very comfortable and happy. This has been the worst experience with a pet store I have ever had. We ordered and paid a frog for my son a few days before Christmas with an estimated delivery date of one week. When he called to follow up, they had no clue when it would come in and asked if he wanted a pixie frog instead as they would get one in sooner than the bullfrog. To date, they have no estimated delivery on the frog, and blame the delay on my son switching to the pixie frog they encouraged him to switch to to get his frog sooner. They will not issue a refund and just told us to be patient until they get one in with NO estimate on how long that will take. read more

NOT THE STORE IT USED TO BE: In the past I had a good track record with Exotic Pet World (spending well over $2000 in the past few years; however, today that changed. I was excited to do some Christmas gift shopping with family. My plans were to purchase a Leucistic male sugar glider as well as a Leucistic ball python cost (around $1900 for both animals). Upon requesting to see the python, I was told by an employee named Oscar, "We only show snakes to serious buyers." Slightly taken aback, I explained, "I wouldn't be asking if I weren't serious. We own several snakes and other exotics." He then left stating he'd get someone--only to never return. After 15 minutes of waiting, I again located Oscar and asked to speak with the manager. I was directed to Brenda Juarez who identified herself as manager. Having owned my own businesses for several years, I wanted to be helpful by explaining to Oscar and Brenda the importance of customer service. Literally, I've seen businesses fail in the past because of poor customer service. The manager Brenda just stood there expressionless not caring to hear my concerns. When I told Brenda what Oscar had said and how that might be seen as belittling to other customers, she stated, "I told him to say that." At this point after seeing Brenda's general lack of concern, I asked to speak to another manager or store owner. She said, "I'm the only manager." I asked if I could have the contact information of the store owner. Brenda refused to provide the owner's contact information. However, later I did find the contact information for the general managers (Emilio Osoria & Alex Vela) as well as the owner (Marlen I. Lopez). I guess Brenda forgot to mention those managers. It's sad, but I can no longer recommend Exotic Pet World to anyone. It's disappointing because this is not the store it used to be. Nice as the Pets may be, the absolutely horrific customer service (by some employees) makes it not worth spending any time nor money there. read more

I didn't think it could get worse than petco, all the animals are either dead, dying or overpriced. Very poorly run facility, very sad.

Today was my first time and I cannot believe I have not been there before. I was greeted by customer service as soon as I walked in. I took Humpy my fur baby to get his nails trimmed. They were exceptional and he did not even shiver. He was super chill :) As they took him, I walked around and could not believe how well they take care of all their animals, fish and birds. I even saw where I can take my other fur babies and bathe them there. They have big tubs and everything you need to groom them. I will be back, and I will take my grandkids. There is so much to see that I need more time. I even noticed they carry the Pure Vita Holistic pet food with Venison and red lentils that I need for my fur babies. Great Job to all the employees and owners. I would recommend Exotic Tropical Pet World to everyone. :) They even gave Humpy and me a treat. :) LOVE Exotic Tropical Pet World. Great Energy....... Pet World is a predator. They lie to you about the interest rate you are getting. Be aware of your purchase. They tell you a low interest rate when in reality it is a monthly rate not yearly. So if they tell you thar your interest rate is 12.66% in reality it is 151.99%. You will never finish paying off your pet. These people should go to jail for taking advantage of people. read more

It's si beautiful and it looks in person more better and good service but there are staff there for help if you need them sometimes they are busy but wait and have a look around bc it's really to good business and I just had a head jog yesterday it's very cute and he is a great he's de jog we just need to gain trust I trust him we are getting a little more closer that is all I'm saying!! I've been to Exoctic Pet World And the customer service and knowledge of the animals there are amazing. Very clean establishment. Knowledge of of animals and products is awesome. I drive all the way from Brównsville to visit and buy products. I love visiting with the macaws very friendly and lots of personality which says so much about how great the birds are taken care of... the birds all mottling it's that time of season. Some birds molt some don't. But these birds have amazing care and knowledge from the staff and owners. Place is always clean spotless. As myself being a macaw and cockatoo owner they are very messy birds and you constantly have to clean up after them. My hats off to this establishment and kudos to the staff. I ordered a pixie frog from this place before Christmas abd they said it would take about a week for it to arrive, I was waiting over a month and had no new information on it besides it would take about a week, I went in and asked for a refund so that I can get a frog somewhere else and they couldn't give me a refund because of some stupid "policy". I love going here just to walk around and hang out with the animals, so I always buy something too to help keep them in business and the prices are great. They have the best selection of species I ever saw and they all seem healthy and cared for. The staff is so incredibly kind. They let my son very gently handle a bunch of different animals. They are taking COVID precautions and have a hand wash station at the door you're required to use before entering. I don't have a dog but I think it's really cool they have a facility where you can wash your own dog. read more

We just bought 2 ball pythons and as soon as we got home and put them in their cage. One of them was already dead. When we bought them they didn't even explained what they eat, how to care for them. We researched all of that and turns out they are malnourished. It looks like they haven't eaten in a wh Update: they gave us two other snakes and they died as well. read more

Very cool pet store and at a very convenient location in McAllen. I love the animals they had. The had a wide variety of exotic animals too. Loved their reptile section, except that one of the workers was showing us a black scorpion and took it out of the tank and held it in his hands and was showing us how to handle one but then it fell on the floor, poor thing, not only that but it could've escaped or stung one of us. I don't think that they have proper care when it comes to the scorpions. Workers were careless and untrained it seemed. Overall, very good place if you are looking for other animals to own. Such a nice pet store. Didn't smell too bad either. Very clean environment. I would come here again. Thank you. read more

I visited the pet store today to buy some fish and maybe some live plants for my aquariums. This was my second time there, since it opened. I left so disappointed and sad for all the animals that are at this pet store. The aquatic section upset me very much. The fish are in poor condition and some aquariums do not even have water circulation. The gold fish have torn fins and the large fish are in aquariums too small for them. The betta fish look like they do not feed them and so sad looking. I wanted to rescue all the fish and animals. I didn't even go to the reptile section because my heart was breaking from seeing the condition of the aquatics. The enclosure of the sulcata tortoises was was joke. This is a beautiful tortoise that needs room and sunlight. They were in extremely tiny enclosures. The owner of this business needs to make some modifications to address some of the issues I observed. I really hope the owner does something. read more

DON'T HAVE A BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!! I recently had a birthday party for my two children here. This place is autistic friendly however they didn't provide any service. We were left to our own devices for most of the three hour party. My neice has experience in party hosting and ended up having to save the party. It was $300 and not worth it. Don't get me wrong it is an awesome pet store but not ready to have parties . They don't know how to conduct or host them. read more

I went for the fish department and it was sad, the tanks looked really dirty, poor lighting. I look over and see were they have the puppies! It was just not where I would like them to be it was like a little place they couldn't really move. I give them 3 stars because they have a lot of things in each department, and feels like it has everything you need to take care of the animals. read more

Do NOT take your pets here to get their nails cut. I took my ferrets and the lady who cut their nails wasn't professional at all. She didn't know how to properly handle them and she kept telling me to hold them. My ferrets were obviously scared like all animals, and she even offered to give them cbd oil so they can calm down. It made me wonder how many other animals she has tried to give that to. To top it all off she cut one of my ferrets nails so badly that he started bleeding all over my shirt, arms, and floor. She didn't even react badly or apologized, she kept saying it was because he was moving too much. I'm never taking them there again. read more

Came to the grand opening with my kids and they came out crying!! We saw a lady pick up a guinea pig and she dropped him! Another man that was with her picked up their plastic house and held one down so he could pick him up, the poor thing was squealing!!! It wasn't just in that exhibit.
