He's positively passionate about the work he does and takes the time to walk you through every single step or option. The spray tan machine itself is so easy and quick to use. This is my go to spot in Marin for a base tan pre trip. What is the reason I keep going back? Simple ...it's the customer service. The owner is so kind and always quick to offer a joke, a fun fact, or information that might help me out! The building is very secure (front door is locked and you ring for service) and there is plenty of parking. The beds are always clean and I love the music that Jay picks! I've never had to wait for a bed and it's nice not having to schedule appts in advance. Great hours of service as well. I'm not sure how he works the amount that he does, but Jay is a dynamo! Jay was extremely helpful and kindly let me in just before their closing time. I was so glad I tanned with exotic tan instead of the one closer to my house in San Rafael. After Exotic-Tans Novato re-opened on September 17th, I finally was able to re-visit. Not only the place has completely changed its lobby and included even stricter cleaning reflecting C.D.C guidelines, the place is spotless. I personally observed the owner goes above and beyond for the safety of his clients. Jay even cleans his doors outside! Client entry to the salon has been completely changed. The door is locked, and the clients can only enter upon ringing a doorbell and undergo a temperature check. The safety precautions are in place with an acrylic shield and a touchless credit card machine. The customers have to wait in the safety of their own cars until the prior customer has finished and the place is sterilized to accept a new visitor. There are three machines and a leg-tanner, and the sunless booth is coming soon. I love this place, it is the best in Marin! read more

I had an upcoming pool party I was gonna be at and had the cursed florescent bulb engineer tan (i.e. pasty never seen light except in an office) my friend suggested I hit up a tanning salon. As vain as it sounded, I always wanted to see what it was about. I have never been to a tanning salon in my life. I did a quick search on yelp and score! One just down the street from where I work! Jay, the owner, was very kind, patient, and never tried to upsell me on anything. The facilities were clean. There was never a wait (multiple tanning beds available) and the prices were definitely reasonable. After 5 quick trips there, I had me a decent base tan ready to hit the pool. I believe the base tan prevented me from getting too burnt when I was out in the real sun. Definitely recommended for those who don't have all day to lay out and do nothing. read more

This is a little hidden gem in Novato. Jay is super! When I walk through the door he informs me of how many days it's been since my last tan...then suggests a tan time accordingly. Awesome! The beds are clean, always a tidy room and he's constantly upgrading the aesthetics of the salon. I rate this salon a full 5 stars. Disclosure: BRING YOUR IPOD! He streams a ".com" music station that features wind instruments, 60's sit-in harmonies or tunes in other languages that could very well be Jay's plot for 9 minutes of insane mind-control. The only reason I didn't give it all the stars is because it doesn't have stand up beds... yet! Jay, the owner, said he would be investing in one soon, as it's more comfortable for a lot of people (especially those with neck/back problems that make laying down on the bed uncomfy), not to mention it helps get the problematic side areas and underarms. I have been going to Exotic tans for years. I have always been very happy until today. i signed up for one month. ( I only used 6 or 7 for the whole month) One would think a month would be 10th to 10th or 18th to 18th. I went in for my last one and he said it ended 2 days before??? Instead of just explaining his ways and giving me my last tan, he let me leave. Shame on you Jay! Bad business sense. Nice place. Owner is a great guy lots of laugh's shared. I stay in Northbay as well as Santa Cruz so when winter comes I fade from my surfing tan, this place keeps my base on so I will not burn those first few hot days in spring etc. Just two beds to chose from so no brainer.Great for local's.$$ read more
