Updating my review because this place is AWESOME! It breaks my heart to see one-star reviews based on being closed Sundays or being short staffed. As a manager of a small business, I know how selfish and petty customers can be. The same three girls have been there for years and still manage to keep the door open with smiles on their faces. They always get me in on time for my appt, keep the cleanest tanning salon I've ever been in, and give me all the info on deals and perks. LOVE THIS PLACE read more

Wonderful staff, always clean. Why are you still closed on Sunday's? The pandemic is not an excuse, even though it is still on the sign in the door. People who work in SF can't make it during your weekday hours. Please reopen Sunday read more

Excellent facility with many beds and a wide range of tanning lights. Very knowledgeable staff (thanks Amanda) and easy appointment making. Great part of San Rafael. Parking is fairly easy within two blocks at worst. Clean and enjoyable experience. I signed up for the monthly unlimited. My summer tan won't go away as the clouds roll in for the winter. read more

I went in for a 10 card tanning package and loved it. Raya and Kathy at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. This place has stand up high pressure tanning as well as a variety of lay down beds and a red light therapy bed too. They are open seven days a week and parking lot is behind Trader Joe's on 5th Street. I'm excited to have all the best new tanning equipment. Makes a difference in the results. I enjoyed the experience. read more

Good service. Older machines that seem to have at least one function broken (i.e radio, mist, etc), but still higher end than most tanning places. read more

Badly run business! They constantly close early saying they are short staffed . This is not a way to run a business. Where is the owner? The owner should be in there working when they are short staffed. read more

So I was scrambling at the end of August to get ready for a trip and of course had to go to my favorite tanning salon for a spray tan. I realized the next day while I was packing I was missing my diamond earrings. I left them in the dressing room! Fearing the worst I called Tan Bella and they not only had them, they assured me my earrings would be safely put away in the managers office until my return. The girls, Kathy, Raya and Bri, at the reception desk were awesome and I have to say what an amazing group of great honest employees!! read more

Raya sunshine is what we need to call Raya that works here! Every time I come in she has the best energy and is eager to help get you get into a bed! She has the cutest personality and her willingness to help and guide is awesome! Makes me like coming here! We have the best conversations while I'm getting my bed set up. A business is all about its people! If you have a business and don't have great staff you won't stay in business for long. Every person that works here has been so sweet and kind to me I just wanted to give a shout out today to Raya! Happy Easter read more

10 stars plus if I could. The young lady was extremely knowledgeable, the salon was super clean and the bed was amazing. I literally got color off of one session. I literally love it here!! :) read more

I had given up on spray tan "machines" but Tan Bella offers something innovative and new - I really love the pre- and post- treatments that help prepare the skin and lock in the color. The team is amazing - five star service and high energy. I'm excited to go back! read more

I am beyond upset that went here for my spray tan. Originally I left a great review because the place was nice and the girl that helped me was nice. But two days later, worse spray tan ever. It's peeling off in large chunks and ruining my Vegas birthday vacation. It looks like I have skin disease I and literally followed the directions to a T. Do not go here! Whatever they use in the leg must is probably the issue u imagine. UPDATE: And to the comment posted by the Tan Bella representative, I have neither used sunscreen or nor have I been in the pool. The issue, which I did notice before leaving, is not my fault and the Yelp I left is not "destructive" it is honest. Your response, blaming me, is unacceptable. A better business would have offered to at least refund my money, not blame me. Add terrible customer service to the list. read more

Best tanning salon in the Bay Area! I've been going to Tan Bella locations since they opened in SF years ago & I've always had a great tan & experience. High quality beds, beautiful salon and great customer service. So happy there is a location in Marin now too right in my downtown. read more

i went to Tan Bella for a tan, and it was great. Then I ordered another service for decreasing age-related issues, and the actual service made me feel sick (it was a dish you stand on), so I canceled that subscription service on the spot. Somehow that cancellation did not go through and I was busy at work and neglected to check those charges. When I realized that I had been charged, I called them. Jessica helped me and gave me an immediate refund for all $500. I was impressed. Thank you, Jessica! read more

It pains me to write this review. I used to love it here. The last three times I've been here there has been a problem. The first time I had called and made an appointment. When I arrived, the girl who took my appointment, didn't write it down. Subsequently I had to wait 15 minutes. The next time I went in, the girl programmed the computer wrong (even after I double checked with her to make sure it was right) and I got the wrong tan. Lastly, today I went in and one arm is tan and the other isn't. I don't know what's going on here but the owner needs to step up and figure it out! read more

I miss coming here since I've moved!! I recently moved to Napa for work and trying to find a new tanning place seems to be a bit difficult. Reviews on Yelp show catty exchanges between unhappy customers and angry owners, I'll pass on that drama LOL :) The staff at Tan Bella was always nice and welcoming. There were different levels of beds and I never had to wait. The only downside is it's mostly street parking but garages and lots are 1-2 blocks away. read more

I have to throw another Tan Bella shout out to Aaron and Ashley (I hope I spelled your names correctly)! They just light up my mood! They both are so knowledgeable, so I give them my full trust when it comes to tanning. I know I'll always be advised well by these two. Thank you both! read more

I love this place for tanning. There are many options to choose from and the price is very reasonable. Geena knows me by name and is always friendly. It's nice to go to a place that is inviting. I highly recommend Tan Bella read more

I recently started going to Tan Bella to use the tanning bed as a way to develop some sort of base tan before I go to Hawaii later this month! I was extremely nervous at first as it was my first time ever using a tanning bed, and I'm somewhat claustrophobic. However, the staff assured me that I could easily get out at any time and showed me how to use all the controls to make sure I was as comfortable as possible! They are all super knowledgeable, understanding, and comforting! Emily is so sweet and recognized that I was wearing a college sweatshirt, so she asked if I was a college student and because I am she told me that I was eligible for 20% off my package! If she didn't mention anything I would have kept going without receiving the student discount that they offer! Aaron is also someone who has been regularly checking me in and is so friendly and outgoing! Overall these staff and the atmosphere has made each experience very enjoyable! Thanks Emily and Aaron! read more

I love my 15 minute vacays here! I feel so welcomed and am always greeted with smiles. I am a long time tanner and this is the nicest place I've been- clean, new and excellent cooling systems in each bed. Aaron and Geena are above and beyond when it comes to customer service. They even watch my puppy Teddy so I can enjoy my tan stress free! They are the best! read more

First timer who always was in fear of the whole process. Especially for a guy...I couldn't have felt more at ease when I walked in and met Aaron! He was calm, welcoming, and made me feel at ease from the very start. The process was easy, he walked me through so I didn't end up burned or too brown. The color was even and natural looking. I joked that no one would notice.. I swear I got compliments on my tan the next day! The confidence was great and I'm now on a regular plan. So happy I made the choice, plus the place is super clean which I worry about as well!!! Try it, you won't be bummed at all!! read more

This place is heaven . I have been looking for a decently priced tanning salon for about a year now . Thank goodness I found these guys! The staff is super helpful , kind, and informative when it comes to what you want to do . I highly recommend giving them a shot Thanks for everything guys ! read more

I have been using Tan Bella for a very long time. I have NEVER seen any of the the issues that people seem to be complaining about. The staff is fun, professional always upbeat and thoughtful. Since Covid they have made great improvements to keep customers safe. Never have any staff members been rude to me or anyone else that I've seen them deal with. If there was an employee that was rude or disrespectful they are gone and let's be real here every business has one or two of those. Some people just can't be happy no matter what is offered to them..... Don't blame the entire business for one bad apple. I'm very pleased and I will continue my membership with them.... come join the club!!!!! Melodie read more

Lets start with the front desk, such arrogant stuff ...big turn off. My spray tan it was the worst I have ever had. Before my trip to the Caribbeans I came for a $50 spray tan and what I got in the next day....my skin was orange, uneven, one side of my body was darker, my lower legs had no color compare to my upper legs. I was told that the color should last up to a week. It faded so quickly and in my case I was happy about it. I will never recommend this place or go back. read more

I'm absolutely changing my review of Tan Bella. Their bait and switch membership is completely bogus. Myself and a few other of clients signed up and we're very happy- for a month or two. Then we all left... or so we thought... I haven't been in since November and although I have tried to cancel and what not, have been charged a monthly $100 since. The customer service doesn't exist and they try to sell you on unlimited but you literally need to go daily to get somewhat of a tan. I do not have that kind of time on my hands. If I get a spray tan I expect to to last more than one day. Peter, the owner, sold me on my package and then changed out the machines. They do not work! The old machines were awesome! They sprayed quickly and lasted these new machines spray like a mister walking in Scottsdale... do not work! Anyway, if you want great decor and a place to waste your time and not get a decent tan, go ahead and sign up. If you want an actual tan then go anywhere else! I had personally advertised and praised them until I quit in November but was still charged a monthly fee!!!! $700 wasted for the last seven months I was billed. The staff is rude, self centered and unwilling to help. The "manager" is the worst of them all- be warned! I'll never support this place again and hope you steer clear of their BS Because I do not know how to reply to Peter that just wrote that I was verbally abusive. I haven't been in since November and have always treated the staff with respect because they do not control the product or results (I guess). Peter, you have disappointed me and I know now to post the text messages that you just sent me, threatening me. Threatening me! The client! I was a great client and promoted you on social media. I had brought to your attention that the machines don't work well, as well as other clients and friends of mine, and you ignored us, but I cannot speak for them- you ignored me. I wish Tan Bella the best but will never be back. Do not text me anymore, and find peace within. Good bye. read more

So disappointed with my spray tan experience. Went in for a spray tan Wednesday for a big event tonight (Friday). Spent over $50 for the darkest tan and 'all the extras' just to make sure it looked great and lasted. By Thursday night I hadn't noticed a change but thought it needed more time to develop since the associate told me it would last up to 5 days. Here we are Friday morning and NOTHING! I'm wearing a backless dress and unfortunately not a tan :( Went in to discuss my lack of results with a different associate and she pretty much told me too bad. Nothing we can do. Would have been better off spending $15 on a can of Neutragena spray and calling it a day. DO NOT RECOMMEND this place read more

I've been a customer at Tan Bella for quite a while. I started using the tanning beds and have had great results. A short while ago we were taking a family trip to Hawaii and I thought it would be a good idea if the whole family got a head start on their tans. I bought a package of spray tans and brought the whole group in for a session. Not knowing what to expect, the staff took their time to explain the process of the tanning and what we should and should not do to maintain it while on vacation Well, we all got a great tan, everyone felt good and that made for a pleasant experience. We were gone for 10 days and the color held up well on everyone. Once we got back, three of us did a touch tan. Again the results were great. My sister flew back to Connecticut and a few days later she was telling me of all the great complements she was getting on here tan. Since we've been back, I've been doing a weekly spray tan to keep that Hawaiian feeling going. I've not had any problems with color and my husband is hooked on it too. A big shout out to Morgane, Sara,Alyssa & Ashley who always take great care of us when we go in for a treatment. You can't go wrong with the San Rafael team!!!! read more

I walked in a couple days ago to ask about red light therapy and your systems were down, however, the young lady at the front named Rayah (spelling?) was so calm, kind and informative. She was able to answer all my questions and with a smile. I will definitely be back. read more

I went in yesterday to get some info and I left with a three month membership! Tiffany was knowledgeable and efficient in helping me weigh my options in wether or not to purchase a "package", or a "membership". She provided me with a tour and explained the difference in all the beds and the spray booth. I'm going back today for a tan and a spray, I can't wait to be bronze again. I'm so glad this place opened in San Rafael, it's affordable and definitely a much needed upgrade from our few lil local joints that are overpriced and under maintained. read more

Tan Bella is amazing! I've been spray tanning for years and they have figured it out! The color is perfect, everything is super clean, the staff is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful! If you have questions or want to know what the best tan option is for your skin - it's so worth asking. They really want to help! The membership has been great for me because I try to spray tan once a week (I love my glow) and it saves me a ton! They even have spray tan that you can bring on vacation which I LOVE because it helps refresh my tan after a few days of travel :) The Marin Tan Bella is wonderful - and I'm so happy it opened up! I will rewrite my review after I've had a fair conversation with the owner. What will remain of my review: "Awesome tanning location. Very European. Cool people. Cool atmosphere." Re-stated: Tanning is compared to Europe, ridiculously expensive in California. But Tan Bella (this location) provides a cheaper solution and offers also the best value for the money. What will still remain from my original review: "If I'd suggest improvements, then it would be the matter of transparency. Paid almost 20 bucks for a sample of tanning cream." And yes. The owner is correct, that there are lotions for about 5 bucks or so. But there is no price tag. Just brands and colors and a regular guy has no idea about the prices and values. And I've picked one that was about $20 without having had the price COMMUNICATED. And that's all I'm asking for. I also want readers to know, that I got the big bottle (of the sample product) a week later even tho it was expensive. It's an awesome product. But in my opinion, a price has to be communicated. No matter if $5 or $20. Also important: The workers there are really nice and it's REALLY a nice place. 100% recommendation. read more

I rarely write reviews, but this business, and its owner, deserve a chance to earn your tanning business. This review applies to all 3 Tan Bella locations b/c I have had the perspective of having seen and experienced all 3 (King St, Market St, and Marin/San Rafael). Prior to becoming a loyal customer of Tan Bella, just like everyone else searching for the ultimate salon, I did my homework. I wasted time and $ checking out the competition in SF, in East Bay, and in the Peninsula before becoming a loyal client of Tan Bella. If you are searching for the most innovative tanning salon in the SF area, then there is no other. Tan Bella offers the most technologically advanced tanning units, a wide variety of lotion brands, the friendliest customer service, the cleanest facilities, convenient hours, the most innovative interior designs, and talented sunless tanning "artists" who are consistently the best at what they do. All of this and reasonable pricing too. Tan Bella stands alone, not only as a brand, with its contemporary interior designs and luxury services, but the salon also stands apart in ways that none of its competitors in the SF area have been able to replicate. Message to the tanning industry trade group: please give this salon an award! #winner read more
